Operation
General Operation:
,, Readthisoperator'smanual carefullyinits entiretybeforeattempting
toassemblethismachine.Read,understand,andfollowallinstructions onthemachineand inthe manual(s) beforeoperation.Becompletely familiarwiththecontrolsand theproperuseofthismachinebefore operatingit.Keepthis manualinasafeplaceforfutureandregular referenceand for orderingreplacementparts.

Slope Operation:
Slopesareamajorfactorrelatedto slipandfall accidentswhichcan resultin severeinjury.Operationonslopesrequiresextracaution.Ifyoufeeluneasyon aslope,donotmowit.Foryoursafety,usetheslopegaugeincludedas part ofthismanualtomeasureslopesbeforeoperatingthis unit ona slopedorhilly area.Ifthe slopeis greaterthan15degrees,do notmowit.

REMOVING THE UNIT FROM THE CARTON
1. Cutthecornersofthecartonandlaythesidesflaton the ground. Removeall packinginserts.
2. Movethemowerandgrasscatcheroutofthecarton.
3. Makecertainthecartonhasbeencompletelyemptiedbefore discardingit.
ASSEMBLING THE HANDLE
1. Removeanypackingmaterialwhichmaybebetweenupperand lowerhandles.
2. Looseneachhandknobfoundontheinsideof theupperhandle.
3. Gentlylift andpivottheupperhandleintotheoperatingposition asshownin Figure1.
4. Removestar knobsfromhandlemountingbracketsandsecure thelowerhandleontothehandlebracketsby placingthelower holeofthelowerhandleontothepinsofthe handlebrackets.
5. Securetheupperhandleandlowerhandlebytighteningthe handknobs. Eachcarriageboltmustbeseatedproperlyintothe
squareholefoundintheplasticconnector.
6. Tightenstarknobssecuringlowerhandletohandlebrackets.See Figure2. Makecertainthe lowerhandleis seatedsecurelyinto thehandlemountingbrackets.

CONVERTING TO SIDE DISCHARGE
Toconvertto sidedischarge,makesuregrasscatcherisoffof the unit.
Replacetherearmulchingbaffleandclosereardischargedoor.To dischargegrassto theside:
1. Lift mulchingplugonthe rightsideofmower.
2. Slidetwohooksofsidedischargechuteunderthehingepinon themulchingplugassemblyand lowerthesidemulchingplug. SeeFigure5.
NOTE:Do notremovethesidemulchingplugat any time,evenwhen youare notmulching.

Themotor/bladecontrolhandleislocatedon theupperhandleofthe mower.SeeFigure6.Themotor/bladecontrolhandleengagesand disengagesthe motorandblade.The motor/bladecontrolconsistsof threeparts- starterbutton,motor/bladecontrolhandle,andkey.
Releasethemotor/bladecontrolhandletostopthe motorandblade. Removethekeytopreventaccidentalstartingwhenequipmentis
unattended.
Thebladewill be rotatingwheneverthemotorisrunning.
HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT LEVER
Thecutting heightadjustmentleveris locatedabovetheleft rear wheel.Toadjustthe cuttingheight,refertothe AssemblySection.
BATTERY LEVEL INDICATOR
Thebatterylevelindicatorislocatedonthemotorcover.Theindicator showstheconditionofthebatteryandisonwhenthe motoris on.The indicatorlit allthewayto therightindicatesthebatteryis fullycharged; astheindicatoris lit moretowardthe left,it indicatesthebatteryis discharging.SeeFigure6 inset.
IMPORTANT:Ifthefarleft redlightilluminates,the batterieswill needtobe rechargedbeforefurtheruse.Continuedoperationbefore
chargingmayshortenthe life ofthebatteries.
CIRCUIT BREAKER RESET BUTTON
Themowerisequippedwithacircuitbreakerresetbutton,locatedon themotor/bladecontrol.RefertoFigure7.Thiscircuitbreakerreset
buttonmaypopoutwhentoomuchstrainis placedonthemotor.Refer
to MaintenanceSectiontoresetthisbutton.
KEY
Thekeymustbepresentandinsertedbeforethemotorcanbestarted.
SeeFigure7.DO NOTTURNKEY.
CHARGING THE BATTERY
Chargethe mowerfor 14hoursbeforeinitialuse. Chargemower
indoorsina dryareaoutofthe weather.DONOTchargein rainorwet locations.
IMPORTANT:Useonlythebatterychargerprovidedwiththismower (Partnumber725-04387).
Plugthebatterychargerintothe mowerfirst,andthen intoany
standard110/120volthouseholdelectricaloutlet. SeeFigure7 inset forbatterycharginglocationonmower.
NOTE:Ifanextensioncordisrequired,useonethat isat leastwire
size 16AWG.Connecttheextensioncordtochargerbeforeplugging extensioncordintoelectricaloutlet.

Thebatterycontainscorrosivefluidandtoxicmaterial-HANDLE WITHCARE.Keepawayfromchildren.Donotpuncture, disassemble,mutilate,or incinerate.Explosivegasescouldbevented duringchargingor discharging.Useinawellventilatedarea,away fromsourcesofi nition.
IMPORTANT:Alwaysrechargemowerfully.Thechargerisatwostage charger.Thefirststage,equalize,suppliesa highervoltageto the
batteries.Thishelpsspeedchargetimeandbalancethecharge acrossthe individualbatteries.Thesecondstage,float,suppliesa
lowervoltage. Thispreventsthebatteriesfromexperiencing overchargingdamageandalso"topsoff"thebatterycharge.
Dependingon batteryconditiontheequalizestagewillcompletein approximately8hours. Whenthe equalizestageiscompletethe
charger'sgreenLEDwillstopblinking. Thisstartsthefloatstage. DuringthefloatstagethechargersgreenLEDwillbe oncontinuously.
Thefloatstagewill"topoff"the batteriesinapproximately4-6 hours,
again,dependingonthe conditionofthebattery.However,a full14 hourchargeis alwaysrecommended.
NOTE:It isrecommendedthatthemowerbechargedonceeverytwo monthsduringstorage.
IMPORTANT:Alwaysdisconnectbatterycharger(or extensioncord, if used)fromtheelectricaloutletfirst,thendisconnectbatterycharger
frommower.
STARTING THE MOWER AND BLADE
1. Insertkey.RefertoFigure8.
2. Depressstarterbuttononthe motor/bladecontrol.
3. Pullmotor/bladecontrolhandleupagainstupperhandle.
4. Releasestarterbuttonwhenmotorstarts.
STOPPING THE MOTOR AND BLADE
1. Releasemotor/bladecontrolhandletostopmotorandblade.

3. Chargethemower.
USING YOUR LAWN MOWER
)airsonit.
Besurethat lawnis clearofstones,sticks,wires,or otherobjects whichcoulddamagethelawnmoweror motor.Suchobjectscould beaccidentallythrownbythe mowerinanydirectionandcause seriouspersonalinjurytotheoperatorandothers.
Ifyoustrikea foreignobject,stopthemotor,andremovethekey. Thoroughlyinspectthemowerforanydamage,andrepairthe damagebeforerestartingandoperatingthemower.Excessive vibrationofthemowerduringoperationisan indicationofdamage. Theunitshouldbepromptlyinspectedand repaired.
Whenusingthesidedischarge,the mosteffectivemowingpattern isone thatallowstheclippingstodischargetowardsthe uncutpart
ofthelawn.
DONOTusemowerin therain. Fora healthylawn,alwayscutoffone-thirdorlessofthetotal
lengthofthegrass. Forbestresults,donotcutwetgrassbecauseit tendsto stickto
theundersideofthedeckpreventingpropermulchingordischarge ofgrassclippings.Neworthickgrassmayrequirea narrowercut.
