Industry Canada (IC) Information

This equipment meets the applicable Industry Canada (IC) radio and
terminal equipment technical specifications. This is confirmed by the
certification/registration number found on the label on the bottom of
the base unit. The abbreviation IC before the certification/registration
number only signifies that registration was performed based on a
Declaration of Conformity and that the Industry Canada technical
specifications were met. It does not imply that Industry Canada
approved the equipment. The term “IC:” before the certification/

The Ringer Equivalency Number (REN) for this equipment is 0.0. The
REN is useful in determining the maximum number of devices you
may connect to your telephone line and still have all of these devices
ring when your telephone number is called. The sum of the RENs of all
devices connected to one line may not exceed 5.

Before installing this cordless phone, you should make sure that it is
permissible to be connected to the facilities of the local
telecommunications company. The equipment must be installed using
an acceptable method of connection. In some cases, the
telecommunications company’s inside wiring associated with a single
line individual service may be extended by means of a certified
connector assembly (telephone extension cord). You should be aware
that compliance with the above conditions may not prevent
degradation of service in some situations.

The plug and jack used to connect this equipment to the premises
wiring and telephone network must comply with the rules and
requirements in Industry Canada’s CS-03. A compliant telephone cord
and modular plug is provided with this product. It is designed to be
connected to a compatible modular jack that is also compliant.

For your protection, ensure that the electrical ground connections of
the power utility, telephone lines, and internal metallic water pipe

system, if present, are connected together. This precaution may be
particularly important in rural areas.

Contact the appropriate electrical inspection authority or an
electrician, as appropriate.

interfere with the operation of this cordless phone or cause noise

aid compatibility.

This device complies with Industry Canada’s RSS-210. Operation is
subject to the following two conditions:

(2) This device must accept any interference received, including

interference that may cause undesired operation.

a Class B digital device, pursuant to Industry Canada’s ICES-003.
These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against
harmful interference in a residential installation.

This equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency

Important Safety Instructions

Follow these safety precautions when using your cordless phone to
reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and injury to persons or property:

1. Keep all slits and openings of the phone unblocked. Do not set the
phone on a heating register or over a radiator. Ensure that proper
ventilation is provided at the installation site.

2. Do not use while wet or while standing in water.

3. Do not use this product near water (for example, near a bath tub,
kitchen sink, or swimming pool).

4. Do not allow anything to rest on the power cord. Place the power
cord so that it will not be walked on.

5. Never insert objects of any kind into the product slits as that may
result in fire or shock.

6. Unplug this product from the wall outlet before cleaning. Do not
use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners. Use a damp cloth for
cleaning.

7. Do not disassemble this product. If service or repair work is
required, contact the Motorola address found in the back of this
user’s guide.

8. Do not overload wall outlets and extension cords.

9. Avoid using during an electrical storm. Use a surge protector to
protect the equipment.

10. Do not use this cordless phone to report a gas leak, especially if
you are in the vicinity of the gas line.

Installation Guidelines

1. Read and understand all instructions and save them for future
reference.

2. Follow all warnings and instructions marked on the product.

3. Do not install this product near a bath tub, sink, or shower.

4. Operate this phone using only the power source that is indicated
on the marking label. If you are unsure of the power supply to your
home, consult with your dealer or local power company.

5. Do not place this product on an unstable cart, stand, or table. This
product may fall, causing serious damage to the product.

6. Adjust only those controls that are covered by the operating
instructions. Improper adjustment of other controls may result in
damage and will often require extensive work to restore the
product to normal operation.

7. Clean this product with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use chemicals
or cleaning agents to clean this phone.

8. Use only the power supply that came with this unit. Using other
power supplies may damage the unit.

9. Because cordless phones operate on electricity, you should have
at least one phone in your home that is not cordless in case the
power in your home goes out.

10. To avoid interference to nearby appliances, do not place the base
of the cordless phone on or near a TV, microwave oven, or VCR.

Getting Started

To set up your Motorola digital cordless phone
system:

1. Install optional backup batteries in the base

station and plug into a power outlet (page 13).

2. Plug in charging bases for expansion handsets
(page 14).

3. Install batteries in handsets (page 14).

4. Charge handset batteries (page 15).

handset. Charge the battery for about 12 hours
before initial use.

5. Connect the base station to the phone line
(page 15).

6. Register expansion handsets to the base station
(page 21).
Handsets that come with your phone system are
already registered to the base.

7. Set the ring tone, date, time, and other features of
your handset(s) and base station (page 22).

Place the Base Station:

• Away from electrical appliances such as a TV,

personal computer, or another cordless phone.

• In a high and central location with no obstructions,
such as walls.

If you hear noise while using the handset near a
microwave or another cordless phone’s base unit,
move away from the microwave or base unit and
closer to your handset’s base station.

Powering the Base Station

Important: Before installing or handling batteries,
please read the Battery Safety Instructions on
page 9.

The base station uses 4 AAA alkaline batteries for
optional backup power (batteries are included with
some models). To install the batteries:

1. With the bottom of the base station facing you,
press the cover latch with a screwdriver to lift and
remove the battery cover.

2. Insert 4 AAA alkaline batteries into the battery
compartment.

3. To replace the cover, insert the tabs of the cover
into the slots and press down until the cover clicks
into place.

4. Plug the power cord into the back of the base
station and into an outlet.

Setting Up the Charging Bases

If you have expansion handsets, they do not need to
be plugged into a phone line. Simply plug the power
cord into the back of the charging base and into an
outlet wherever you want to place the handset.

Installing Batteries in the Handsets

Important: Before installing or handling batteries,
read the Battery Safety Instructions on page 9.

1. Remove the battery cover by pressing on the
recess and sliding down and off the handset.

2. Plug the connector into the receptacle.

4. Slide and snap the battery cover back into place.

Charging the Handsets

Place the handset in the base station or charging
base. The charging LED is solid red when the
handset is charging.

For the initial charge, charge the battery for at
least 12 hours.

Do not connect the base station to the phone line
until the handset is fully charged.

Wall Mounting the Base Station

The base station can be mounted on a wall instead of
placed on a flat surface such as a table or desk.

1. Remove the twist-tie from the phone cord. Do

not unfold the cord.

2. Untuck both ends of the cord.

3. Hold the folded cord at the center and insert it into
the back of the wall mount bracket.

4. Plug the phone cord into the phone jack on the wall.

5. Hang the wall mount bracket on the phone wall
plate.

6. Plug the other end of the phone cord into the back
of the base station.

7. Plug the power cord into a power outlet if it is not
already plugged in.

8. Insert the guide rail on the wall mount into the slot
on the bottom of the base station and push until it
snaps into place.

You can have up to 4 handsets registered to a base

Personalizing Your Phone System

You can personalize each handset and base station
by setting unique ring tones, adjusting the ring tone
volume for day and night time, and assigning a name
so you can distinguish one handset from another.

Setting the Ring Tone and Ring Volume

You can set a ring tone for incoming calls from
numbers that are stored in the phonebook, and a
different ring tone for other incoming calls. The
phonebook ring tone works only if you subscribe to
caller ID service.

Naming a Handset or Base Station

When you register a handset, it is assigned a default
name of Handset(x), where x can be 1, 2, 3, or 4. You
can change the name to something more useful, for
example a location (Kitchen) or someone’s name
(Susan). Naming a handset makes it easy to select
the handset from a list (for example, to intercom
another handset).

If you name a handset, the handset number remains
part of the name, for example, Kitchen(2).

You can also change the name of your base station.

Storing Area Codes for Caller ID

Important:

where the same area code can be used to dial 10-digit
local numbers or 11-digit long distance numbers.
Disregard this setup if your phone will be used in such
regions.

Note: This section applies only if you subscribe to
caller ID service from your local phone company.

You can store up to 5 area codes to make it easy to
dial numbers from your list of caller ID calls. Each
area code can be:

•

7-digit format
You do not have to dial the area code to call numbers
in this area code.

•

10-digit format
You have to dial the 3-digit area code + 7-digit phone
number to call numbers in this area code.

•

11-digit format
You have to dial the 1 + 3-digit area code + 7-digit
phone number to call numbers in this area code.

For example, if you store 954 in 10-digit format, when
you receive a call from that area code, the phone
number is stored in your call list with all 10 digits. The
number will then be in the correct format for you to
dial directly from the call list without any reformatting.

When you are not on a call, use the volume keys to
change the day (6 am–9 pm) or night (9 pm–6 am)
ringer volume. The time of day as set on the phone
determines whether you are adjusting the day or
night volume. To set the time, see page 29.

Making a Call Using the Speakerphone

Press Handsfree then dial the number. For optimal
speakerphone sound quality, make sure the belt clip
is on. This raises the handset up so it is not lying flat
(the speakerphone is on the back of the handset).

When the speakerphone on the handset is on,
appears on the display.

When you are finished talking, press OFF to hang up
and turn the speakerphone off.

Note: Pressing Handsfree while in the caller ID list,
redial list, or phonebook turns the speakerphone on

Saving a Number in the Phonebook

Storing numbers in the phonebook makes it easy to
dial numbers you call frequently. You can enter
numbers directly into the phonebook or add them
from the caller ID or redial list. You can also select to
save the number in private or shared phonebook.

Private Phonebooks

The private phonebook is unique to each handset
and is not accessible by other handsets. Each private
phonebook stores up to 50 names and numbers.

Shared Phonebooks

The shared phonebook is accessible by all handsets
and stores up to 49 names and numbers.

You can retrieve previously entered information from
the phonebook (such as a PIN or credit card number)
during a phone call without having to re-enter the

Renseignements d’Industrie Canada (IC)

Cet appareil est conforme aux normes applicables d’Industrie Canada
en matière d’équipement radio et terminal. Le numéro de certification/
enregistrement qui apparaît sur l’étiquette située sous le socle de
l’appareil en fait foi. L’abréviation IC devant le numéro de certification/
enregistrement indique seulement que l’enregistrement a été effectué
en fonction de la Déclaration de conformité et que l’appareil est
conforme aux spécifications techniques d’Industrie Canada. Cette
abréviation ne signifie pas qu’Industrie Canada a approuvé l’appareil.

Le nombre équivalent de sonneries (REN) pour cet appareil est
de 0.0. Le REN sert à déterminer le nombre maximal d’appareils que
vous pouvez connecter à votre ligne téléphonique pour que chacun de
ces appareils puisse sonner lorsque vous recevez un appel. La
somme des REN de tous les appareils connectés à une même ligne
ne doit pas être supérieure à 5.

Avant d’installer ce téléphone sans fil, vous devez vous assurer que
votre compagnie de télécommunication locale en permet la connexion à
son système. Cet appareil doit être installé à l’aide d’une méthode de
connexion acceptable. Dans certains cas, le câblage interne de la
compagnie de télécommunications, associé au service de ligne indivi­duelle, peut être prolongé au moyen d’un connecteur certifié (rallonge
téléphonique). Vous devez savoir que la conformité aux conditions sus­mentionnées ne peut empêcher, dans certains cas, la dégradation du
service.

La fiche et la prise utilisées pour connecter cet appareil au réseau télé­phonique et au câblage de l’endroit où il est utilisé doivent être con­formes aux règles et exigences CS-03 d’Industrie Canada. Un fil
téléphonique et une prise modulaire conformes accompagnent ce pro­duit. La fiche est conçue pour être connectée à une prise modulaire
compatible qui est également conforme à ces règlements et exigences.

Pour votre protection, assurez-vous que les connexions électriques
terrestres de la compagnie d’électricité, les lignes téléphoniques et le
système d’aqueduc métallique interne, le cas échéant, sont raccordés

la déconnexion de l’appareil et peut également annuler la garantie limitée.

Confidentialité

La confidentialité des communications ne peut être assurée par ce
téléphone. D’autres appareils, y compris des téléphones sans fil,
peuvent interférer avec le fonctionnement de ce téléphone sans fil ou

Instructions importantes sur la sécurité

de sécurité suivantes pour réduire le risque d’incendie, de choc
électrique, de blessure corporelle ou de bris de biens en :

1. gardant toutes les fentes et ouvertures du téléphone dégagées.
Ne placez pas le téléphone au-dessus d’un registre ou d’un

Débranchez sur-le-champce téléphone sans fil de la
prise de courant dans les situations suivantes :

le câble d’alimentation ou sa fiche est endommagé;

•

un liquide a été répandu sur le produit;

•

le produit a été exposé à la pluie ou à l’eau. Ne touchez pas au
combiné ni au socle avant d’avoir débranché le câble
d’alimentation et le fil téléphonique de leur prise. Prenez ensuite
l’appareil par les câbles débranchés;

•

le produit est tombé ou le boîtier est endommagé;

•

le produit a subi une modification de rendement importante.

Directives d’installation

1. Assurez-vous de lire et de bien comprendre toutes les

Si vous entendez du bruit pendant que vous utilisez
le combiné près d’un four à micro-ondes ou du socle
d’un autre téléphone sans fil, éloignez-vous de ces
appareils et rapprochez-vous du socle de votre
téléphone.

Mise sous tension du socle

Important : Avant d’installer et de manipuler les
piles, veuillez lire les consignes de sécurité relatives
aux piles à la page 65.

Le socle utilise quatre piles alcalines AAA comme
source d’alimentation d’urgence facultative (les piles
sont comprises avec certains modèles). Pour
installer les piles dans le socle :

1. Sous le socle, appuyez sur la patte de
déclenchement du couvercle du logement de
piles à l’aide d’un tournevis, puis soulevez le
couvercle de piles pour le retirer du socle.

2. Insérez quatre piles alcalines AAA dans le
logement de piles.

3. Pour replacer le couvercle, insérez les pattes
du couvercle dans les fentes du socle et appuyez
sur le couvercle jusqu’à ce qu’il s’enclenche.

4. Connectez une extrémité du câble d’alimentation
dans la prise située à l’arrière du socle, puis l’autre
extrémité dans une prise de courant.

Préparation des socles de charge

Vous n’avez pas à connecter les combinés
supplémentaires à une ligne téléphonique. Il suffit de
connecter le cordon d’alimentation situé à l’arrière de
chaque socle dans une prise électrique, à l’endroit
où vous désirez placer le combiné.

Installation de la batterie dans le combiné

Important : Avant d’installer et de manipuler la
batterie, veuillez lire les consignes de sécurité
relatives aux batteries à la page 65.

1. Retirez le couvercle de batterie en appuyant sur
le renfoncement et en faisant glisser le couvercle
avant de le soulever du combiné.

2. Branchez le connecteur dans la prise.

3. Insérez la batterie dans son logement.

1. Enlevez l’attache du fil téléphonique. Ne dépliez

pas le fil.

2. Sortez les deux extrémités du fil.

3. Tenez le fil plié par le centre et insérez-le à l’arrière
du support de fixation murale.

Personnalisation du système téléphonique

Vous pouvez personnaliser chaque combiné ainsi
que le socle de base en lui attribuant une tonalité de
sonnerie unique, en réglant le volume de la sonnerie
pour le jour et pour la nuit et en lui attribuant un nom
afin de le distinguer des autres combinés.

Réglage de la tonalité et du volume de sonnerie

Vous pouvez régler une tonalité de sonnerie pour les
appels provenant des numéros sauvegardés dans
l’annuaire et une tonalité de sonnerie différente pour
tous les autres appels entrants. La fonction de
tonalité de sonnerie pour les appels sauvegardés
dans l’annuaire fonctionne seulement si vous êtes
abonné au service d’identification de l’appelant.

Attribution d’un nom à un combiné ou socle de base

Lorsque vous enregistrez un combiné, le nom
« Handset »(x) lui est attribué par défaut, pour lequel
x peut être 1, 2, 3 ou 4. Vous pouvez remplacer ce
nom par un nom plus utile, par exemple un endroit
(Cuisine) ou le nom d’une personne (Suzanne). En
attribuant un nom aux combinés, il devient plus facile
de les sélectionner dans une liste (pour joindre un
combiné par interphone, par exemple).

Lorsque vous attribuez un nom à un combiné,
le numéro du combiné reste accolé au nom,
par exemple « Cuisine(2) ».

Vous pouvez également changer le nom du socle
de base.

Sauvegarde des indicatifs régionaux pour la fonction d’identification de l’appelant

Attention:

fonction dans les régions où l’indicatif régional peut, à la
fois, servir pour les appels locaux nécessitant la
composition de 10 chiffres et les appels interurbains avec
composition de 11 chiffres. On recommande de nes pas
tenir compte de cette étape dans l’installation de votre
appareil téléphonique.

Nota : Cette section s’applique seulement si vous
êtes abonné au service d’identification de l’appelant
auprès de votre compagnie de téléphone locale.

Vous pouvez sauvegarder jusqu’à cinq indicatifs
régionaux pour simplifier la composition de numéros
à partir de votre liste d’identification de l’appelant.
Chaque indicatif régional peut être :

•

en format 7 chiffres
Vous n’avez pas à composer l’indicatif régional pour
acheminer un appel aux numéros de cet indicatif.

•

en format 10 chiffres
Vous devez composer l’indicatif régional à 3 chiffres
ainsi que le numéro de téléphone à 7 chiffres pour
acheminer un appel aux numéros de cet indicatif.

•

en format 11 chiffres
Vous devez composer le 1 puis l’indicatif régional à
3 chiffres ainsi que le numéro de téléphone à 7 chiffres
pour acheminer un appel aux numéros de cet indicatif.

Lorsque vous n’êtes pas sur un appel, utilisez les
touches de volume pour changer le volume de la
sonnerie de jour (6 h à 21 h) ou de nuit (21 h à 6 h).
L’heure indiquée sur le combiné détermine le volume
que vous réglez (jour ou nuit). Pour régler l’heure,

Acheminement d’un appel à l’aide du haut-parleur

Appuyez sur la touche Handsfree, puis composez
le numéro. Pour une clarté sonore optimale avec le
haut-parleur, assurez-vous que la pince à ceinture
est fixée au combiné. Cela permet d’élever le
combiné de sorte qu’il ne repose pas à plat, car le
haut-parleur est situé à l’arrière du combiné.

La procédure d’acheminement d’un appel à partir du
socle de base est la même que pour les combinés.
Cependant, lorsque vous acheminez un appel à

La sauvegarde de numéros dans l’annuaire facilite la
composition des numéros que vous appelez
fréquemment. Vous pouvez entrer des numéros
directement dans l’annuaire ou les ajouter à partir de

recomposition. Vous pouvez également choisir de
sauvegarder le numéro dans un annuaire privé ou

Insertion de pauses dans un numéro

À l’endroit où vous désirez insérer une pause,
appuyez deux fois sur la touche #; le visuel affiche
Lorsque vous appelez un numéro contenant une
pause, le téléphone attend trois secondes avant de
transmettre les prochains chiffres de la séquence de
composition. Cette fonction est utile si vous devez,
par exemple, composer le 9 pour obtenir la tonalité
de composition standard ou pour utiliser un système
de messagerie vocale.

Composition automatisée

Il est possible de rappeler des renseignements
contenus dans l'annuaire (comme un NIP ou un
numéro de carte de crédit) durant un appel, sans
entrer les chiffres sur le clavier.
