This bulletin describes design changes to the SYN8763A (Black) and SYN9766A (Cool Grey) belt clips
and the reasons for the changes.
Problem
Service has been made aware that Universal Belt Clips SYN8763A (Black) and SYN9766A (Cool Grey)
have been redesigned to address the following customer complaints.
1. Locking tip wearing off.
2. Fracture of holding rail, detent, locking arm, and missing locking button (disassembly/ falling
apart).
3. Detent hook breaking off.
4. Button on holster or case is not retained by clip; button is easily bumped out of Clip.
5. Release button on belt clip sticks (will not pop back up). Front and back plastic pieces are
breaking apart.
6. Top of detent hook wears down quickly
Solution
The following changes were made in order to improve the reliability of the belt clips. The new belt clips
will be identified as SYN8763B
1. Rail design strength was tested as part of qualification testing.
2. Moving the main body gate from its present location at the high stress area to the opposite end of
the part.
3. Add two small plastic nubs molded into the front housing of the clip and die cutting metal spring
clip.
4. The leaf spring/main body interface was redesigned. The new design was implemented in
production on 02/18/03. The average force required for forced disassembly is now 30.8 lbs vs.
the previous 8.1 lbs.
5. Installed new lifter.
6. An inspection step was added to measure the 1.65mm wall thickness of the main body
part before assembly.
7. The Q.C. Inspector have been instructed to use the correct reference when measuring the
latch height at the assembly stage.
