T
here’s no need to peel fruit such as apples, kiwis
or pears or vegetables such as carrots or b
eetroot before blending. As vitamins and minerals are found just below the skin, essential nutrients are retained.
If you leave the skin or peel on make sure that
fruit and vegetables are rinsed well before use.
A
lways remove peel from pineapple, mango,
m
elon and citrus fruit and stones from cherries,
peaches etc. before blending.
Cut fruit and vegetables into roughly 20mm
pieces before blending.
Almonds, cashews and other nuts do not need to
be soaked overnight before use.
Cover flax seeds with a little cold water and leave
overnight to soak before use.
Choose ripe bananas for your drinks as they have
a better flavour than green bananas.
Choose dessert apples with care for your drinks
as some varieties can be tart.
Frozen fruits such as berries and mango are
convenient and suitable for your Nutrition Express. Frozen coconut chunks blend more easily if defrosted before use.
Some smoothies can thicken or separate if left to
stand. If you store your drink for later, you may need to stir it before consuming.
Smoothies containing Chia seeds are best
consumed immediately.
Similarly some drinks tend to lose their rich
colour, as a result of oxidation when left to stand.
Beetroot and spices such as ground turmeric can

tain clothing, utensils and work surfaces, take
c
are when using these ingredients.
W
hen making dips and sauces, use the 530ml
B
eaker only. You may need to scrape the Beaker sides down partway through blending with a s
patula.
Thick mixtures such as hummus and pate are not
suitable for making in your Nutrition Express.
Stir the honey and fig glaze through Greek Yogurt
or use as a filling for filo or other pastries.
Some protein powder additives can cause a
reaction (fermentation) with other ingredients. Be careful when using and follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Do not store these mixed drinks in an airtight container as the fermentation can cause the mixture to expand and cause the lid seal to burst. If in doubt store in the container with the lid removed.
