THE MONTANA WAS

Made in the USA the Montana WAS is built with the
very best materials available. The cabi net materials,
drivers, cross-over components, the wi ring and the
dampening materials are selected for their sonic
merits and construction quality. A lifetime of musical
enjoyment is possible with this hand-crafted limited
edition, full range loudspeaker.

THE CABINET

Elegant, substantial, solid as a rock.

The WAS Cabinet is made from Medite 46 MDF, special grade of US
made hardboard very suited for loudspeaker enclosures. The cabinet is
constructed with up to 3 layers of front baffle, totaling 3 inches thick in
key areas. The back wall is laminated 2 inches thick and the sides, 1
and 3/4 inches thick. All this contributes to the great weight and
stability of the sound coming from WAS.

The internal cabinet is divided in 6 sub-enclosures: the upper 12 inch
woofer is operating in a sealed enclosure, the lower 15 inch w oof er is
operating in it's own vented enclosure. The two 7 inch mid-woofers are
in separate sealed enclosures constructed with our speci a l reverse
triangle configuration. This cabinet shape totally eliminates standing

waves within the sub-enclosure. The sam e
method is used in the two Kevlar 4 inch mid­range drivers sub-enclosures.

THE DRIVERS

Well-defined and fast.

The drivers utilized in the WAS are from two of
the best raw driver manufacturers in the
world, namely Scanspeak of Denmark and
Focal of France. Following is a short
description of the WAS custom drivers.

Montana 15 inch Woofer:
Operating range in the WAS is 17-80 Hz.

A Focal custom made driver using a special
multi magnet design, with 12 magnets in a
cluster configuration. This greatly improves
the cooling of the 77 mm voice coil wound on
a Kapton former as well as lowers the
distortion.

THE MONTANA WAS

The straight profiled cone is made from Polyglass. This is attached to
the cast aluminum chassis with a coated foam, high compliance positive
half roll surround. This driver is known to be the best 15 inch woofer
currently available.

Montana 12 inch Woofer:
Operating range in the WAS is 40-80 Hz.

A Focal custom made driver utilizing the same Polyglass straight
profiled cone material as the Montana 15 inch woofer. The Montana 12
inch woofer is constructed around a 1400 gr. magnet and a 51mm voice
coil wound on a aluminum former. The suspension is made from
extremely complia nt Neoprene. The aluminum cast chassis have 6 large
carrying arms for extreme rigidity, which enable the clean detailed
upper bass from the WAS.

Montana 7 inch Mid-woofers:
Operating range in the WAS is 80-500 Hz.

The Montana 7 inch mid-woofer has a special m a gnet sy stem that
eliminates modulation and dynamic distortion, as well as lowers the
clipping distortion that is created when the voice coil exceeds its
maximum linear excursion. The 7 inch driver is equipped with a non­resonant low loss linear suspension and a very stiff carbon filled paper
cone. This driver is responsible for the very open sound and the
excellent dynamics and detail in the sound form of the WAS.

Montana 4 inch Kevlar Mid-range:
Operating range in the WAS is 500-5000 Hz.

The Montana 4 inch mid-range driver has remarkably low distortion
figure and transient capability caused by use of the Kevlar cone
material. This driver has a newly developed magnet motor system with
extreme magnetic flux in the air-gap. This driver utilizes ScanSpeak's
patented symmetrical drive along with a symmetrical lathed, vented
pole piece, mounted to an unusually heavy die-cast basket.
