INTRODUCTION

Thank you for purchasing the Minolta Slide Feeder SC-100.
The Slide Feeder SC-100 is designed for use with the Minolta Dimâge Scan Multi scanner and allows you to automatically feed and continuously scan up to 50 mounted slides at one time.The Slide Feeder can be used with either the Dimâge Scan Multi utility software, TWAIN driver, or plug-in and allows you to select the file destination.
Before using the Slide Feeder, please read this instruction manual thoroughly.It is also necessary to read the Accessory Information section in the scanner’s software instruction manual.

• Do not inser t metal objects into this unit.
•Do not attempt to disassemble this product.Take the product to a Minolta Service facility for repairs.
If there is smoke, a strange smell, or any other unusual conditions, shut down and unplug the unit, then contact a Minolta Service Facility.

Unexpected damage may occur if this unit is left unattended near young children.

1. Remove the connector cover from the top of the scanner.
2. Press the power switch to turn the scanner on.
• Set-up will begin.
• The green indicator
lamp blinks slowly while the scanner is busy setting-up.Wait until the lamp turns off.

3. Insert the slide carrier into the film-slot in the direction indicated by the white arrow on top of the carrier.
• Do not inser t the slide
carrier at an angle.
• The slide carrier is
included in the slide­feeder package.
4. Gently push the carrier into the scanner until the
insertion mark is aligned with the film­slot door.
• The slide carrier will
be automatically guided in past the
mark.

5. Shut down the computer, then turn the scanner off.
• Always be sure the
scanner is off when attaching and detaching the slide feeder.
6. Attach the slide feeder to the scanner by lining up the scanner’s connector with the contacts on the slide feeder.
• Push the slide feeder
straight down so the contacts are fully inserted into the connector.The two pegs on either side of the slide feeder’s contacts should fit into the notches on the scanner.

7. Tighten the holding screws on both sides of the slide feeder, then tighten the holding screw on the top of the scanner.
• Tighten the holding
screws by pressing and turning.
8. Press the power switch on the front of the slide feeder to turn the scanner on.
• Set-up will begin.
• The indicator lamp on
the front of the slide feeder will blink slowly while the scanner is setting up.Wait until the indicator lamp on the front of the slide feeder glows.
9. Turn on the computer.
RECOMMENDED SLIDE MOUNTS

Some slide mounts are not recommended for use in the slide feeder. Jamming is likely to occur with the following slide mounts.
The Slide Feeder can load approximately 50 mounted slides (1.6mm thickness).The number of slides that can be loaded depends on the thickness of the slide mounts.Slide mounts should be between 1 – 3mm thick and have a flat, even surface on both the top and bottom.
Mounts with indentations on the surface, such as for labels or slots where film is to be inserted.
Mounts with rounded edges.
Mounts with rough, uneven edges or surfaces.
Max. thickness:
3mm
Remount slides if the mount is damaged or coming apart.

1. Lift the cover.
2. Raise and hold the pressure bar on the “IN” column.

3. Insert the slides emulsion side down. Make sure the slides are oriented vertically, as shown.
• See the “Film Emulsion” section
in the hardware instruction manual that accompanied the scanner.
• Do not fill the slide feeder past
the fill line.

4. Gently close the slide feeder cover.
• Once the slide feeder is loaded,
follow the slide feeder scanning procedure as explained in the Accessory Information section of the software instruction manual.
• The slides are scanned star ting from the bottom of the “IN” column stack to the top.Once a slide is scanned, it is automatically transported to the “OUT” column.
• Do not open the slide-feeder cover while the slides are being scanned.

1. Quit all applications, then shut down the computer.
2. Press the power switch on the slide feeder to turn the scanner off.
• Always be sure the
scanner is off when attaching and detaching the slide feeder.

3. Loosen the holding screws on the sides of the slide feeder, then loosen the holding screw on the top of the scanner.
• Turn the screws until
they spring out of the socket.
4. Gently lift the slide feeder straight up from the scanner.

5. Press the power switch on the scanner to turn the scanner on.
• Set-up will begin.
• The green indicator
lamp will blink slowly during set-up.Wait for the indicator lamp to turn off.
The slide carrier will
automatically eject partway, then stop. Remove the carrier.
• Wait for the indicator
lamp to turn off before removing the carrier.

6. Replace the connector cover.

3. Open the slide-feeder cover.
1. Quit all applications, then shut down the computer.
2. Press the power switch on the slide feeder to turn the scanner off.
• Always be sure the
scanner is off when removing jammed slides.
Occasionally a slide will not move through the slide feeder properly and will get jammed.When a slide gets jammed, simply remove the slide following the procedure below.

4. Remove the slides from both the “IN” and “OUT” columns.
5. Remove the mount cover.
• Grasp the mount
cover, pressing firmly on the front and lift.

6. If the visible portion of the slide carrier is not flush against the front edge of the slide feeder,gently pull it so it is flat against the edge.
7. Remove the metal spring.

8. Slide the transport unit to the right, then lift it out.
• The amount of effort
needed to remove the unit may vary depending on where the slide is stuck.
9. Lift the pressure bar and push the slide out.
• The slide can be
pushed out to the right or left side.
• Do not touch the film
with your fingers.

10.Snap the transport unit back into place.
• Line up the transport
unit with the guides on the slide feeder, then slide it to the left.

11.Replace the spring.

13.Turn the scanner on, then turn on the computer.
After removing a jammed slide, the scanner and PC must be turned on, then set-up must be completed before reloading the slide feeder.
If a jammed slide cannot be easily removed using the procedure described in this section, do not attempt to remove it forcefully. Damage may occur. Leave the scanner off and call a Minolta Service Facility listed on the back cover of this manual.

When an error occurs that requires the scanner to be turned off, always follow the procedure below.
1. Click on OK in the error message dialog box (if one appears).
2. Quit all applications.
3. Shut down the PC.
4. Turn off the scanner by pressing the power switch on the front of the slide feeder.
5. Turn off any other connected peripheral devices.
INDICATOR LAMP

The indicator lamp on the front of the slide feeder displays the status of the slide feeder and scanner. Its indications are different that those of the scanner’s indicator lamp.

Glows The scanner and slide-feeder are on
and ready.
Blinks .5Hz (1 time every 2 sec.)
The scanner is:
• setting-up.
• scanning.
• focusing.
Blinks 2Hz (2 times every sec.)
The film-slot door is open.
Blinks 8Hz (8 times every sec.)
One of the following has occurred:
•The slide carrier is not inser ted.
•A film holder is inserted instead of the slide carrier.
•The fluorescent lamp unit cover is not fully closed.
•The fluorescent lamp is burnt out.
•There is a hardware malfunction. Contact a Minolta service facility.
