Microsoft® Desktop Sets with Bluetooth® Wireless Technology

While researchers are not yet able to answer many questions about MSDs, there is general agreement that many factors may be linked to their occurrence, including: overall health, stress and how one copes with it, medical and physical conditions, and how a person positions and uses his or her body during work and other activities (including use of a keyboard or mouse). The amount of time a person performs an activity may also be a factor.
Some guidelines that may help you work more comfortably with your computer and possibly reduce your risk of experiencing an MSD can be found in the “Healthy Computing Guide” installed with this device’s software. If this device did not come with sof tware, see the “Healthy Computing Guide” section of the “Getting Started” manual. The software included with this product is licensed, not sold. You must either agree to the license contract in the software Setup screen or promptly return the Microsoft wireless desktop set, comprised of the keyboard, mouse, and transceiver, along with the software, for a refund, excluding the return costs. After you install the software, you may consult the license and the Limited Warranty for the product at any time by looking in the “Legal Information” section of the sof tware Help les. Welcome
Congratulations on your purchase of a Microsoft® desktop set with Bluetooth® wireless technology. This complete desktop solution includes a wireless keyboard, a wireless mouse, and a wireless transceiver. Setting up the devices takes a few simple steps, and then you can enjoy the freedom of Bluetooth wireless technology and the convenience of a clutter-free desktop.
Run the Setup Wizard First
The Setup Wizard installs the required software. After software setup is complete, the Bluetooth Connection Guide automatically opens to help you connect your Bluetooth devices (see Step 2).
Important
You must leave your current keyboard and mouse connected to complete Setup.
You must complete the Bluetooth Connection Guide to successfully set up your
devices.
To run the Setup Wizard
1 Insert the software installation CD into the computer’s CD drive. If the Setup screen
does not automatically appear, do the following:
Click Start, and then click Run.
Type [drive]:setup. For example, if your CD drive is drive E, type e:setup
2 Click Install to begin the keyboard and mouse software installation. Follow the
Setup Wizard instructions on the screen. You may be prompted to restart your computer during software installation.
3 After IntelliType Pro and IntelliPoint software is installed and the computer is
restarted (if necessary), the Bluetooth Connection Guide will automatically open to help you connect your wireless transceiver, keyboard, and mouse.
If the Bluetooth Connection Guide does not automatically open, see Step 2.
Run the Bluetooth Connection Guide
The software provides a Bluetooth Connection Guide that gives you the information you need to connect your Bluetooth devices. You must complete this guide to successfully set up your devices, but you can also run the guide any time you need to reconnect your Bluetooth devices.
Note If you are reconnecting a device, use the device that is still connected to run the
Bluetooth Connection Guide. For example, if you need to reconnect your mouse, use your keyboard to navigate through the connection process. Alternatively, you can use a wired device to complete the process.

To run the Bluetooth Connection Guide
Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft Keyboard or Microsoft Mouse, and then click Connect Keyboard for Bluetooth or Connect Mouse for Bluetooth.
Important The following tips provide information that is essential to successfully
connecting your Bluetooth mouse and keyboard. Read through these tips, and then refer to them as you connect your devices.
Mouse Connection (Passkey Not Required)
To make the mouse discoverable by Microsoft Windows®, press the button on the bottom of the mouse for 5 seconds (using the tip of a pen may make it easier to press this button).
When asked for a passkey, click Do not use a passkey.
Keyboard Connection (Passkey Required)
To make the keyboard discoverable by Windows, press the button on the bottom of the keyboard for 5 seconds.
From the list of passkey options, click Choose a passkey for me, and then wait until you are prompted to enter a passkey.
When prompted to enter the passkey, type the provided passkey within 30 seconds using your Bluetooth keyboard, and then press ENTER. Do not use the keyboard’s numeric keypad to enter the passkey.
Note The amount of time it takes for your device to connect may vary and depends on
factors like the speed of your computer.

The Help les installed with the software are your complete product manual. Keyboard Help is installed with IntelliType Pro software, and Mouse Help is installed with IntelliPoint software. Help contains important product information in a searchable format, including:

Customize Your Keyboard and Mouse Settings (Optional)
You can start IntelliType Pro keyboard software or IntelliPoint mouse software and customize your devices.
Using IntelliType Pro keyboard software, you can:
Reassign many of the keys to open a program, le, Web page, or shortcut—or to perform a command.
Disable keys you sometimes press accidentally, such as CAPS LOCK.
Using IntelliPoint mouse software, you can:
Reassign each of the mouse buttons (including the wheel button) to perform a different command, such as Copy or Undo.
Modify the mouse settings, such as how fast the wheel scrolls.
To start IntelliType Pro or IntelliPoint software
Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft Keyboard or Microsoft Mouse, and then click Microsoft Keyboard or Microsoft Mouse.
Connecting the Wireless Transceiver
Microsoft Wireless Transceiver for Bluetooth must be connected to an available universal serial bus (USB) port on your computer.
Important You must install the software rst, as
specied in Step 1, before connecting your hardware devices.
To connect the wireless transceiver
With your computer turned on, plug the wireless transceiver into your computer’s rectangular USB port.
If you plug the wireless transceiver into a USB hub, make sure it is a powered hub.
Using Your Wireless Transceiver with Other Devices
The wireless transceiver is supported for use with your Microsoft Bluetooth devices. Because Bluetooth wireless technology follows a standardized specication, you may be able to use other devices with the wireless transceiver. For information about using another Bluetooth device with the wireless transceiver, see the documentation that accompanied the device.

Inserting the Batteries
The keyboard requires three batteries and the mouse requires two, all of which are included in the package. Whenever you insert batteries, always make sure they are new. Alkaline batteries provide maximum battery life.
To insert the batteries
1 Turn the device upside down, and then remove the battery compartment cover.
2 Insert new batteries, making sure to properly orient the positive (+) and negative (–)
ends as specied by the battery compartment labels. Make sure you insert all three batteries in the keyboard battery compartment.
3 Close the battery compartment cover.
Important
Before using this product, read about the potential for radio interference in the topic titled “Radio and TV interference regulations” in the Help les installed with the software.
Before boarding any aircraft, remove the batteries from the wireless keyboard and mouse. The wireless keyboard and mouse can transmit radio frequency (RF) energy, much like a cellular telephone, whenever batteries are installed and either a key is pressed on the keyboard or the mouse is moved.
Troubleshooting
For optimum performance, make sure the wireless transceiver is as far away as possible from any items that might cause interference. Items that might cause interference include microwave ovens, wireless networking devices, and certain types of cordless phones.
The keyboard or mouse may work up to 30 feet (9.1 m) away from the transceiver. This distance varies depending on the positioning of the transceiver and wireless devices, nearby items causing interference, and other factors.
If your device is not working properly, make sure to check the following:
The Setup Wizard was run as specied in Step 1.
The Bluetooth Connection Guide was completed as specied in Step 2.
The wireless transceiver is properly connected to the USB port.
New batteries are inserted and positioned correctly for each device.
If you are still having problems, refer to Keyboard Help or Mouse Help for additional troubleshooting information.
Adjusting the Keyboard Legs
The keyboard legs are designed to accommodate various body sizes, chairs, and desks.
To adjust the keyboard legs
Pull out or push in the keyboard legs to a position that minimizes bending of your wrists while typing.

About the On-screen Display
To preserve battery life, an on-screen display (rather than a keyboard light) indicates the status of the SCROLL LOCK, CAPS LOCK, NUM LOCK, and F LOCK toggle keys.
Using the F LOCK Key
The F LOCK toggle key gives your keyboard more functionality by providing two command modes for the top row of keys. When F LOCK is off, the enhanced commands printed on the top of the keys are enabled. When F LOCK is on, the standard commands printed on the front of the keys are enabled. You may need to turn F LOCK on to access certain system key commands labeled on the front of the keys, such as INSERT or SCROLL LOCK.
