Now it’s time to consider how you can maximize the fun and excitement your equipment offers. CHARGING THE BATTERY

This unit has a built-in Lithium Polymer rechargeable battery. When the bars in the battery indicator (in the display) become low (see Figure 1) and especially when the bars turn red, recharge the battery as follows.

1. Connect the USB cable to the USB

jack on the bottom of this unit and to the USB port on your computer (as shown); “✓ OK to Remove” will appear on the screen. When charging, the battery indicator will cycle from the current battery level to full. Once the battery is fully charged, the indicator will stop cycling.

NOTES:

• When you disconnect this unit from your computer, this unit will turn on and update the

playlist automatically. It will take several seconds to several minutes to update the player's library depending on the number of files that you have transferred to the player.

• It takes approx. 6 hours to charge the battery from empty to full. When fully charged,

the unit can playback for approx. 12 hours in Music Playback mode. (Actual playback times may vary.)

• For data transfer, please use the USB cable (included) to connect the unit to

your computer.

SUPPORTED OPERATING SYSTEMS

This unit is compatible with Windows XP (SP2) with Windows Media Player 10, or above.

Please refer to the following pages to learn how to: transfer video, music and photo files, convert music on an audio CD into MP3 or WMA format using Windows Media Player 10, transfer MP3/WMA files and WMA files with DRM 9 or 10 using Windows Media Player 10.

NOTE: Visit www.Microsoft.com to download the corresponding Windows Media Player for your computer.

MEDIA FILES SUPPORTED FORMATS

AUDIO FORMATS: MP3, MPEG 1/2/2.5 Layer 3 with a bit rate up to 320 kbps

(max.), WMA files with DRM 9 or 10 with a bit rate up to 320 kbps. VIDEO FORMATS: AVI support (decoder: xvid, size: 128 x 128 resolution, Frame Per Second: 30fps max, Bit Rate: 768 kbps max, Frequency Range: 8-48kHz, Audio Format: 128kbps, 48kHz, Stereo CBR); WMV support (decoder complexity: simple profile, size 128 x 128 resolution, Frame Per Second: 30fps max, Bit Rate: 384 kbps max, Frequency Range: 8-48kHz, Audio Format: 128kbps, 48kHz, Stereo CBR).

IMPORTANT! Make sure the video resolution is 128 x 128; otherwise, the video file

will not be able to be played.

For Windows XP, you can also utilize Windows Media Player 10 software to convert music on an audio CD into MP3 or WMA format as follows:

1. Open the Windows Media Player 10 Browser, then click on the “Rip” icon on the top tool bar. Insert a music CD into the CD-Rom drive of your computer.

2. Click on the “Tools” menu option at the top menu bar, then click on “Options”; the Option setting menu will appear. Click on Rip Music and set the Rip Music to the desired location on your computer. Then, set the desired format for the newly ripped music (MP3 format or Windows Media Audio format). Adjust the audio quality as desired. When finished, click “OK” to confirm the settings.

3. Click on the “Rip Music” icon to start ripping the music to your computer.

4. When the music tracks are ripped, you can transfer them to your player using Windows Media Player 10 as described on the next page.

TRANSFERRING MP3/WMA/VIDEO/PHOTO FILES AND WMA FILES WITH DRM 9 OR DRM 10 USING WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER 10 (FOR WINDOWS XP ONLY)

To transfer MP3/WMA/VIDEO/PHOTO/WMA files with DRM 9 or 10 to the player, follow the procedure described below using WMP (Windows Media Player) 10. Before beginning the procedure, please connect the unit to the computer as previously described.

1. Open the “Windows Media Player Browser 10” and click on “Sync”.

2. Click on the “Sync List” pull-down menu to locate the music files you wish to download. Then make sure to tick the box next to the files.

3. Select the Portable Device (“Media Player”) that you want to copy to from the right side drop-down menu. Click “Start Sync” to start transferring music files to the player.

4. After finished transferring all the desired files to your unit, “

✓ OK to Remove” will appear on the screen. Then you

can remove the player from the computer.

CREATING A PLAYLIST

Follow the steps below to create a playlist in the Music menu:

1. Connect your player to the USB port on your computer as shown on page 7.

2. Press and hold the Enter/Play/Pause

®p button for three seconds.

3. On your computer, double-click My Computer. This unit will appear as a removable drive name "Removable Disk"; double-click "Removable Disk".

4. Navigate to the music files that you want to copy. Then, "drag and drop" them to the "PLAYLIST" directory in the "Removable Disk" drive.

5. When the files are finished loading into the player, go back to the "Removable Disk" drive and right-click on it. Left-click "Eject" and it will be safe to remove the player from the computer.

NOTE: The music files inside the "Playlist" in the Music menu will not be found in the Songs category.

Procedure to Install MP3 Player Utilities 5.10:

1. Insert the installation CD-Rom into the CD Drive, then the installation screen will appear. If the installation screen doesn't automatically appear, double-click My Computer then double-click on the CD drive, then double-click on “Setup.exe”.

2. The “Welcome” screen will appear. Click “Next”.

3. The “Installation Folder” screen will appear. It is recommended to keep the folder as is. At this screen, you can also choose to install MP3 Player Utilities 5.10 for yourself, or for anyone who uses that computer. Then click “Next”.

4. The “MP3 Player Utilities 5.10 Information” screen will appear. Read the information and click “Next”.

5. The “Confirm Installation” screen will appear. Click “Next”.

6. After the program is done installing, the “Installation Complete” screen will appear. Click “Close” to end installation. See the next page for how to use MP3 Player Utilities 5.10.

You can use the previously installed MP3 Player Utilities 5.10 (Video Converter) to convert your video files to AVI files supported by the player.

1. Open the previously installed MP3 Player Utilities 5.10 program (located on your computer under start > All Programs > MP3 Player Utilities 5.10 > Video Converter).

2. Click the green arrow to the right of “Input File” to add files for conversion. In the “Open” window, select the source file you want to convert and click the “Open” button. The file will be added to the window of files to convert. Repeat this procedure if you want to add other files for conversion.

3. Click the red arrow to the right of “Output File”. In the “Browse for Folder” window, select the location of output file, and click the “OK” button.

4. In the window of files to convert, place a checkmark in the “Select” column next to the “File name” of any files that you would like to convert. Then, click on the “Setting” icon (see illustration on the previous page for icon location).

5. Set up the conversion settings, as desired. There are many items in the settings (such as selecting between Full Screen or Same Ratio), most of them do not need to be changed; keep the default settings. However, make sure to select “AVI” under “Video Type”. Then, click the “OK” button.

6. Click the “Begin” icon (see illustration on the previous page for icon location) to begin the conversion.

7. When “Success” appears in the “Status” column next to the “File name”, the file has been converted.

8. Now you can convert additional files according to the above procedures, if desired.

NOTE: Click on the “Help” icon (see illustration on the previous page for icon location) for additional information on using this program.

GENERAL OPERATION

To turn the unit on, press and hold the Power

On/Off button; the Memorex screen will appear for a few moments followed by the Main menu.

To turn the unit off, press and

hold the Power On/Off button until “Shutting Down” appears in the display. NOTE: The Memorex screen will take several seconds to several minutes to update the player’s library depending on the number of songs that you have transferred to the player.

MENU/Lock BUTTON

For the Lock Feature: With the unit on, press

and hold the MENU/Lock button until LOCKED appears in the display; no buttons will function. This is useful when you do not want the track changed by accidentally pressing a button. Press and hold the MENU/Lock button until UNLOCKED appears in the display to cancel the Lock function.

To Navigate the Menus: At any time, press the MENU/Lock button to go back to the previous screen/Main menu. NOTE: While you are in the Main menu, you can press the Navigation

√/Skip/Search o button to enter the Now Playing screen. You can also press the Navigation

®/Skip/Search n button or

Enter/Play/Pause

®p button to advance to the

next level in the menus based on your selection.

HEADPHONES JACK VOLUME BUTTONS

Plug the headphones (included) into the Headphones jack on the top of the unit.

To control the volume, simply press the Volume +/- button during playback. NOTE: While changing the volume, the volume “pop up” indicator will be overlaid across the bottom of the existing screen and will disappear from the screen after three seconds if neither Volume button is pressed. You can close the volume pop-up by pressing the Enter/Play/Pause ®p or MENU/ Lock button.

TO LISTEN TO MP3s/WMAs

Use the Navigation ▲ 1 and/or ▼ 2 buttons to browse through the music categories:

Play Queue, Songs, Artists, Albums, Playlist or Genre. Then press the Enter/Play/Pause

®p button 3 to select that category. A list will appear separating the files into the selected search criteria; see the following page for more details.

NOTE:

• For the Playlist option, please see page 11 for how to create a playlist.

This unit supports the following audio formats: MP3, MPEG 1/2/2.5 Layer 3 with a bit rate of 32320 kbps, WMA files or WMA with DRM 9 or 10 with a bit rate of 48-192 kbps.

AUTO RESUME: Each time you exit the Music Playback mode or turn the unit off, when the unit is turned back on or you enter the Music Playback mode again, this unit will resume at the beginning of the last track which was playing before turning the power off or changing mode.

To browse through your music, see more details below: Play Queue: “Play All”, “Clear All”, “Clear Track” and the song's name will appear in the display. Select Play All or the desired song using the Navigation

▲ 1 and/or ▼ 2 buttons then press the Enter/Play/Pause ®p button 3 to

start playback. The unit will play that song and the songs following it. Songs: The song’s name will appear in the display. Select Play All or the desired song using the Navigation ▲ 1 and/or ▼ 2 buttons then press the Enter/Play/Pause ®p button 3 to start playback.

Artists: All Artists will be shown in the display. Select Play All or the desired Artist using the Navigation ▲ 1 and/or ▼ 2 buttons then press the Enter/Play/Pause ®p button 3. All the Artist’s albums will appear; select Play All or the

desired album using the Navigation

▲ 1 and/or ▼ 2 buttons then press the Enter/Play/Pause ®p button 3. Then,

select Play All or the desired song using the Navigation

Enter the Play Queue submenu as described on page 18. To clear all tracks in the queue, use the

Navigation ▲ 1 and/or ▼ 2 button to select Clear All and then press the Enter/Play/Pause

®p button 3.

TO DELETE SONGS FROM THE PLAY QUEUE

To clear one track at a time from the

queue, use the Navigation ▲ 1 and/or ▼ 2 button to select Clear Track and then press the Enter/Play/Pause ®p button 3. Then, use the Navigation ▲ 1 and/or ▼ 2 button to select the song to clear and then press the Enter/Play/Pause ®p button 3. Repeat this step to delete additional songs.

During playback, press and hold the Navigation ®/Skip/Search n button 1 or √/o 2 button to move the player forward or backward within a file to locate a specific musical passage. The player will move forward or backward at high speed as long as the button is held. When you release the button, normal playback will resume.

HIGH-SPEED MUSIC SEARCH

During playback, press the Navigation √/Skip/Search o button to move the player back to the beginning of the currently playing file. Press the Navigation

√/Skip/Search o button repeatedly to move the player back to lowernumbered files.

FORWARD/REVERSE SKIP

During playback, press the Navigation ®/ Skip/Search

n button to advance the player to the beginning of the next file. Press the Navigation ®/Skip/Search n button repeatedly to advance

the player to higher-numbered files.

button to open the Music Contextual menu.

Scroll to the “Equalizer” option using the Navigation ▲ 1 and/or ▼ 2 buttons.

Select a desired “Equalizer” setting (None, Extra Bass, Rock, Jazz, Classical or Pop) using the Navigation ®/Skip/Search n1or √/o2button, followed by the Enter/ Play/Pause ®p button 3 to confirm.

NOTES:

• IMPORTANT! Make sure the video resolution is 128 x 128.

• See pages 8 and 10 for information on uploading video files to this unit.

• You can pause playback at anytime by pressing the Enter/Play/Pause

®p button; the video will remain

paused until the button is pressed again.

• This unit will play the selected video, then all the following videos. When they finish, the unit will go back to the Video menu.

button to move the player forward or backward within a video to locate a specific scene. The player will move forward or backward at high speed as long as the button is held. When you release the button, normal playback will resume.

HIGH-SPEED VIDEO SEARCH

During playback, press the Navigation √/ Skip/Search

o button to move the player back to the beginning of the currently playing file. Press the Navigation

√/Skip/Search o button repeatedly to

move the player back to lower-numbered files.

FORWARD/REVERSE SKIP

TO VIEW PHOTOS–This unit supports baseline JPEGs.

Use the Navigation ▲ 1 and/or ▼ 2 buttons to select between Slide show, Thumbnails or to select a particular photo. If you have selected a particular photo, press the Enter/Play/Pause ®p button 3 to view it. (For Slide show and Thumbnails, please see the next page.)

Turn the unit on and access the main menu as described on page 16. Select Photo using the Navigation ▼ button 1, followed by the Enter/Play/Pause ®p button 2.

At any time, press the MENU/Lock button to go back to the previous screen/main menu.

During photo playback, press the Navigation ®/Skip/Search n 1 or √/o2 button to skip to the next or previous photo.

Formatting the Player WARNING!

Do not format this player unless it stops working and you are

1. Use the USB cable to connect the player and the computer.

2. Double click on My Computer, then right click “Media Player” and left click on "Format".

3. For “Media Player”, at the "Format" window, click OK to confirm and the player will start to format (see figure to the right). When finished, click "OK" to close the Format window.
