S Read your instruction manual carefully until

D Restrict unit to users who understand andwill
follow all warnings and safety rules in this manual.
WARNING: Inspect area before start-
ing unit. Remove all debris and hard objects such as rocks, glass, wire, etc. that can rico­chet, be thrown, or otherwise cause injury or damage during operation. Use your unit as a blower for:
D Sweeping debris or grass clippings from
driveways, sidewalks, patios, etc.
D Blowing grass clippings, straw, or leaves into
piles, around joints, or between bricks.
Use your unit as a vacuum for:
D Pickingup drymaterialsuchas leaves,grass,
small twigs, and bits of paper.
Use unleaded or quality leaded petrol and two stroke oil.

WARNI NG: The muffler is very hot during and after use. D o not touch the muffler, muffler guard, or surrounding surfaces, or allow combustible materi al such a s dry grassorfueltodoso.
Thebloweroperatormustmakesure that no by standers or animal s come nearer than 15 meters. Whenever several operators are working in the same work area , they should maintain a safe distance of at least 15 meters from one another.

D For best results during vacuum use, operate
your unit at high speed.
D Move slowly back and forth over the material
as you vacuum. Avoid forcing the unit into a pile of debris as this can clog the unit.
D Keep the vacuum tube about an inch above

PLAN AHEAD
D Always wear eye and ear protection when
operating, servicing, or performing maintenance on unit. Wearing eye protection will help to prevent rocks or debris from being blown orricocheting intoeyesandface which can result in blindness and/or serious injury. Eye protection should be marked Z87.
D Always wear foot protection. Do not go
barefoot or wear sandals.
D Always wear respirator or face mask when
working with unit in dusty environments.
D Secure hairaboveshoulder length. Secure or
remove jewelry, loose clothing, or clothing with loosely hanging straps, ties, tassels, etc. They can be caught in moving parts.
D Do not operate unit when you are tired, ill,
upset, or if you are under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or medication.

D Keep children, bystanders, andanimals away
fromworkarea aminimumof 15meters when starting or operating unit. Do not pointblower nozzle in the direction of people or pets.
HANDLE FUEL WITH CAUTION
D Eliminate all sources of sparks or flame
(including smoking, open flames, or work that can cause sparks) in the areas where fuel is mixed, poured, or stored.
D Mix and pour fuel in an outdoor area; store
fuel ina cool, dry,well ventilated place; usean approved, marked container for all fuel purpo se s.
D Do not smoke while handling fuel or while
operating the unit.
D Make sure the unitisproperly assembled and
in good operating condition.
D Do not fill fuel tank while engine is hot or
running.
D Avoid spilling fuel or oil. Wipe up fuel spills
before starting engine.
D Move at least 3 meters away from fuel and
fueling site before starting engine.
D Always store petrol in a container approved
for flammable liquids.
OPERATEYOUR UNIT SAFELY
WARNING: Stop the engine before
opening the vacuum inlet door. The engine must be stopped and the impeller blades no longer turningto avoid serious injury from the rotating blades.
D Inspect unit before each use for worn, loose,
missing, or damaged parts. Do not use until unit is in proper working order.
D Keep outside surfaces free of oil and fuel. D Never start or run engine inside a closed
room or building. Breathing exhaust fumes can kill.
D Mufflers fitted with catalytic converters get
very hot during use and remain so for some time after stopping. This also applies at idle speed. Contact can result inburns to theskin. Remember the risk of fire!
D To avoid static electricity shock, do not wear
rubber gloves or any other insulated gloves while operating unit.
D Do notsetunit onany surface exceptaclean,
hard area while engine is running. Debris such as gravel, sand, dust, grass, etc. could be picked up by the air intake and thrown out through discharge opening, damaging unit, property, or causing serious injury to bystanders or operator.
D Avoid dangerous environments. Do notusein
unventilated areas orwhereexplosive vapors or carbon monoxide build up could be present.
D Do not overreach or use from unstable
surfaces such as ladders, trees, steep slopes, rooftops, etc. Keep firm footing and balance at all times.
D Never place objects inside the blower tubes;
always direct the blowing debris away from people, animals,glass, andsolid objects such as trees, automobiles, walls, etc. The force of
air can cause rocks, dirt, or sticks to be thrown ortoricochet which can hurt peopleor animals, breakglass, orcause otherdamage.
D Never run unit without the proper equipment
attached. When using your unit as a blower, always install blower tubes. When using your unit as a vacuum, always install vacuum tubes and vacuum bag assembly. Make sure vacuum bag assembly is completely zipped.
D Check air intake opening, blower tubes,
vacuum tubes, and elbow tube frequently, always with engine stopped and spark plug disconnected. Keep vents and discharge tubes free of debris which can accumulate and restrict proper air flow.
D Never place any object in the air intake
opening as this could restrict proper air flow and cause damage to the unit.
D Neveruseforspreadingchemicals, fertilizers,
or other substances which may contain toxic materials.
D Toavoid spreading fire,donot use nearleafor
brush fires, fireplaces, barbecue pits, ashtrays, etc.
D Use only for jobs explained in this manual.
MAINTAIN YOUR UNIT PROPERLY
D Have all maintenance other than the
recommended procedures described in the instruction manual performed by an authorized service dealer.
D Disconnect spark plug before performing
maintenance except for carburetor adjustments.
D Use only recommended McCulloch
replacement parts; use of any other parts mayvoidyour warranty and cause damageto your unit.
D Empty fuel tank before storing the unit. Use
upfuelleftincarburetor by starting engineand letting it run until it stops.
D Do not use any accessory or attachment
other than those recommended by manufacturer for use with your unit.
D Do not store the unit or fuel in a closed area
where fuel vapors can reach sparks or an open flame from hot water heaters, electric motor s or switch es,furnaces, etc.
D Store in a dry area out of reach of children.

NOTE: It is normal for the fuel filter to rattle
in the empty fuel tank.
ASSEMBLY
WARNING: Stop engine and besure
the impeller blades have stopped turning be­fore opening the vacuum inlet door or at­tempting to insert or remove the vacuum or blower tubes. The rotating blades can cause
serious injury. Always disconnect the spark plug before performing maintenance or ac­cessing movable parts.
WARNING: If received assembled,
repeatallsteps toensureyourunit is properly assembled andallfasteners are secure. Fol­lowall safetyinformationin themanual andon the unit.
D A standard screwdriver is required for as-
sembly.

1. Align theribon the upper blower tubewith the groove in the blower outlet; slide the tube into place.
NOTE: The tube clamp bolt must be loose
enough to allow blower tube to be inserted in blower outlet. Loosen the bolt by turning coun­terclockwise.

2. Push the small end of the elbow tube through the small opening in the bag.

2. Secure the tube by turning the bolt clock­wise.
3. Align the slots on the lower blower tube with the tabs on the upper blower tube.

5. Turn thelower blower tubeclockwise until a click is felt to secure the lower blower tube to the upper blower tube.
NOTE: When the upper and lower blower
tubes are assembled together properly, the arrows on both tubes will be aligned.
6. Toremove thetubes, turnthe boltcounter­clockwise toloosen thetubes; remove the tubes.
HIGH--SPEED NOZZLE ASSEMBLY
When greater air speed is desired, use the high--speed nozzle.
1. Align the slots on the nozzle with the tabs on the lower blower tube.

NOTE: Make sure edge of the small open-
ing is flush against the flared area of the el­bow tube, and the rib on the elbow tube is on the bottom.
3. Close thezipperonthebag. Makesurethe zipper is closed completely.
4. Remove blower tubes from engine.
5. Insert theelbowtubeinto theblower outlet. Make sure elbow tube rib is aligned with the blower outlet groove.
6. Turnknobclockwise tosecure elbowtube.

HOW TO CONVERT UNIT FROM VACUUM USE TO BLOWER USE
1. Remove the elbow tube and vacuum bag by turning the knob counterclockwise to loosen the elbow tube.
2. Remove the vacuum tubes by turning the tubes clockwise.
3. Close the vacuum inlet cover and make sure it is latched closed.
4. Reinstall the blower tubes (see BLOWER TUBE ASSEMBLY).
SHOULDER STRAP ADJUSTMENT
1. Hold the unit as shown with the muffler side facing away from your body and clothes.
2. Pass the shoulder strap over your head and onto your right shoulder.
3. Extend your leftarmtoward the rearofthe vacuum bag.
4. Adjust shoulder strap until the vacuum bag/shoulder strap seam lies between your thumb and index finger.
5. Make sure air flows freely from the elbow tube intobag. If bagis kinked, theunitwill not operate properly.
6. Align slantedend oflowervacuum tubeas shown. Push lower vacuum tube into upper vacuum tube until the lower tube is securely seated in the upper tube (about 7 cm).

7. When vacuum tubes are fitted together, locatethe label on the lower portion of the upper tube. Perma nently assemble the two tubes together with the supplied screw.

OPERATING TIPS
S While vacuuming or blowing debris, hold
the unit with the muffler side facing away from yourbodyand clothes (seeOPERAT­ING POSITION).
S To reduce the risk of hearing loss
associated with sound level(s), hearing protection is required.
S To reduce the risk of injury associated with
contacting rotating parts, stop the engine be­fore installing or removing attachments. Do not operate without guard(s) in place.
S Operate power equipment only atreasonable
hours- -not early in the morning or late at night when peoplem ightbe disturbed. Comply with times listed in localordinances. Usual recom­mendations are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday though Saturday.
S To reduce noise levels, limit the number of
pieces of equipment used at any one time.
S To reduce noise levels, operate power
blowers at the lowest possible throttle speed to do the job.
S Use rakes andbrooms toloosendebris be-
fore blowing.
S In dusty conditions, slightly dampen sur-
faces orusea mister attachment whenwa­ter is available.
S Conserve water by using power blowers
instead of hoses for many lawn and garden applications, including areas such as gutters, screens, patios, grills, porches, and gardens.
S Watchoutforchildren, pets,open windows,
or freshly washed cars. Blow debris away safely.
S Use thefullblower nozzleextension sothe
air stream can work close to the ground.
S After using blowers and other equipment,
CLEAN UP! Dispose of debris in trash re­ceptacles.

BEFORE STARTING ENGINE
WARNING: Be sure to read the fuel
information in the safety rules before you begin. If you do not understand the safety rules, donot attemptto fuelyour unit. Contact an authorized service dealer.
FUELING ENGINE
WARNING: Remove fuel cap slowly
when refueling. This engine is certified to operate on unleaded petrol. Before operation, petrol must be mixed with a good quality 2-cycle air-cooled engine oil. We recommend McCulloch brand oil mixed at a ratio of 40:1 (2.5%). A 40:1 ratio is obtained by mixing 5 liters of unleaded petrol with 0,125 liter of oil. When mixing fuel, follow the instructions printed on the container. Always read and followthesafety rulesbeforefueling yourunit.
IMPORTANT
Experience indicates that alcohol blended fuels (called gasohol or using ethanol or methanol)canattract moisturewhichleads to separation andformation ofacids during stor­age. Acidic gas can damage the fuel system of anengine whilein storage. To avoid engine problems, empty the fuelsystem beforestor­age for30days or longer.Drainthe gas tank, start theengine andlet itrun untilthefuellines andcarburetor areempty. Usefreshfuelnext season. Never use engine or carburetor cleanerproductsinthe fueltank orpermanent damage may occur.
HOW TO STOP YOUR ENGINE
S Release the throttle trigger. S Push and hold the STOP switch in the
STOP position until the engine stops.

D Fuel engine. Move at least 3 meters away
from the fueling site.
D Hold the unit in the starting position as
shown. Make sure the blower end is di­rected away from people, animals, glass, and solid objects.

WARNING: When starting engine,
hold the unit as illustrated. Do not set unit on any surface except a clean, hard area when starting engineor whileengineisrunning.De­bris such as gravel, sand, dust, grass, etc. could be picked up by the air intake and thrown out through the discharge opening, damagingtheunitor property,or causingseri­ous injury to bystanders or the operator.
STAR TIN G A COLD ENGINE (or a warm engine afterr unni ngout of fuel)
1. Move the throttle position lever to the idle position.

2. Slowly press the primer bulb 6 times.
3. Move the start lever to the START position.

4. Pull starter rope handle sharply 5 times (no more than 3times above 32˚C/90˚F). Ifen­gine starts andrunsprior to5 pulls, allow en­gine torun for 5seconds; then, fullysqueeze the throttle trigger to disengage the starting system (start lever returns to RUN position). Steps 5 and 6 are not necessary.
5. Fully squeeze the throttle trigger to disen­gage the starting system (start lever returns to RUN position).
6. Pull starter rope handle sharply while squeezing throttle trigger until engine starts and runs.
STARTING A WARM ENGINE
1. Squeeze and hold the throttle trigger.
2. Pull starter rope handle sharply while squeezing throttle trigger until engine starts and runs.
NOTE: Normally, the warm starting proce-
dure can be used within 5--10 minutes after the unit is turned off. If the unit sits for more than 10 minutes withoutbeingused,it willbe necessary to start the unit by following the steps under ST AR TINGA COLD ENGINE or following thestartinginstruction steps shown on the unit.
STARTING A FL OODED ENGINE
Flooded engines can be started by moving the start lever to the RUN position and fully squeezing the throttle trigger. Pull the starter handle repeatedly while squeezing throttle triggeruntilenginestartsand runs. Thiscould require pullingthe starter handle manytimes, depending onhow badly the unitisflooded.If the unit still doesn’t start, refer to the TROU­BLESHOOTING TABLE.

MAINTENANCE
WARNING: Avoid touching muffler
unless engine and muffler are cold. A hot muffler can cause serious burns.
WARNING: Disconnect the spark
plug before performing maintenance except for carburetor adjustments.

INSPECT AND CLEAN UNIT & LABELS
S After each use, inspect complete unit for
loose or damaged parts. Clean the unit and decals using a damp cloth with a mild deter­gent.
S Wipe off unit with a clean dry cloth.

REPLACE SPARK PLUG
Replace spark plug each year to ensure the engine starts easier and runs better. Set spark plug gap at 0.6 mm. Ignition timing is fixed, nonadjustable.
1. Twist, then pull off spark plug boot.
2. Remove spark plug fromcylinder anddis­card.
3. Replace with Champion RCJ-6Y spark plug and tighten securely with a 19 mm socketwrench.
4. Reinstall the spark plug boot.
REPLACE FUEL FILTER
T oreplacefuelfilter,drain unitby running itdryof fuel, then remove fuel cap/retainer assembly fromtank.Pull filter fromtank and remove itfrom fuelline.Installnewfuel filter onfuel line;reinstall parts.

CHECK MUFFLER MOUNTING SCREWS
Once each year, ensure muffler mounting screws are secure and tightened properly to prevent damage.
Air Filter Cover
A dirty air filter decreases engine perform­ance and increases fuel consumption and harmful emissions. Always clean after every 5 hours of operation or yearly, whichever comesfirst.
1. Clean the cover and the area around it to keepdebrisfrom fallingintothe carburetor chamber when the cover is removed.
NOTE: Move choke lever to RUN position
before opening air filter cover.
2. Remove parts as illustrated.
NOTE: Do not clean filter in gasoline or
other flammable solvent. Doing so can create a fire hazard or produce harmful evaporative emissions.
3. Wash the filter in soap and water.
4. Allow filter to dry.
5. Apply a few drops of oil to the filter; squeeze filter to distribute oil.
6. Replace parts.

INSPECT MUFFLER AND SPARK ARRESTING SCREEN
As the unit is used, carbon deposits build up on the muffler and spark arresting screen, and must be removedto avoidcreating a fire hazard or affecting engine performance.

Replace the spark arresting screen every 50 hours ofoperation orif any damageor breaks in the screen are noted.
NOTE: Do not attempt to clean the spark
arresting screen.
1. Remove 3 screws from muffler cover. Removemufflercover.
2. Loosen and remove 4 screws from the muffler hood.
3. Remove the muffler hood and spark arrest­ing screen.
4. Install new spark arresting screen.
5. Reinstall mufflerhoodand4screws.Tight­en screws securely.
6. Reinstall muffler cover and 3 screws. Tighten securely.

STORAGE
NOTE: If any part of the muffler is cracked,
broken or damaged, we recommend that the muffler be replaced.
CARBURETOR ADJUSTMENTS
The carburetor has been carefully set at the factory.Adjustmentsmay benecessary ifyou notice any of the following conditions: S Engine will not idle when the throttle is re-
leased.

Allowenginetoidle.Adjust speeduntil engine runs without stalling (idle speed too slow). S Turn idle speed screw clockwise to in-
crease enginespeedif enginestalls ordies.

Ifyourequire furtherassistance orare unsure about performing this procedure, contact an authorized service dealer.
WARNING: Prepare unit for storage at
end ofseason orifit will not beusedfor 30 days or more. S Allow engine to cool, and secure the unit be-
fore storing or transporting.
S Store unit and fuel in a well ventilated area
where fuel vapors cannot reach sparks or open flames from water heaters, electric mo­tors or switches, furnaces, etc.
S Storeunitwith allguards inplace.Position unit
so that any sharp object cannot accidentally cause injury.
S Store unitand fuel well outof the reachofchil-
dren.
EXTERNAL SURFACES
S If your unit is to be stored for a period of time,
clean it thoroughly before storage. Store in a clean dry area.
S Lightly oil external metal surfaces.
INTERNAL ENGINE
S Remove spark plug and pour 1 teaspoon of
2-cycle engine oil (air cooled) through the spark plug opening. Slowly pull the starter rope 8 to 10 times to distribute oil.
S Replace spark plug with new one of recom-
mended type and heat range.
S Clean air filter. S Check entire unit for loose screws, nuts, and
bolts. Replace any damaged,broken, orworn parts.
S Start each season using only fresh fuel hav-
ing the proper gasoline to oil ratio.
OTHER
S Do not store gasoline from one season to
another.
S Replace your gasoline can if it starts to rust.
