WHAT’S NEW ABOUT YOUR LOAD-SENSING WASHER
Load-Sensing determines the appropriate amount of water for each load based on your cycle and options selected for maximum
energy and water savings.
Although your new load-sensing washer may look the same as other washers, there are a few important steps that are required to
maximize your water and energy savings:
BEFORE STARTING THE WASHER:
Presort all of your laundry.
Add all of your garments and laundry products to the washer
and washer dispensers. See “Starting Your Washer”.
Do not interrupt the cycle or open the lid after starting
the washer. Opening the lid will reduce or eliminate water
savings. If the lid is opened during ll, the washer will add
more water to accommodate any additional load. If the
lid is opened after the washer has completed lling, the
washer will then ll to the highest level.
The following describes what to expect when using a washer with load-sensing technology.
After starting your washer, there will be a
short pause before the washer begins to
ll. The washer makes different sounds
and pauses briey throughout each cycle.
This is normal.
Dry Load
How It Works
Next, three nozzles spray to evenly
saturate the load. Then a sensing step
occurs. The lling stops, and the agitator
moves the load for a very brief time.
Load Filling/Sensing
The washer estimates how much more
water to add; then, lling resumes and
continues to sense until the right amount
of water is reached. Now washing begins.
Correct Water Level for Load
Water may not cover the top of the clothes and water level will
vary with size of load. This is normal for Auto Load-Sensing
washers. For these models, the water ll is optimized by the
system for best wash performance.
IMPORTANT: To save water and energy, DO NOT OPEN THE LID
after starting the washer.

Temperature Control
Temperature Control senses and maintains uniform water
temperatures by regulating incoming hot and
cold water.
Warm and hot water will be cooler than what your
previous washer provided.
Even in Cool wash, some warm water is let into the
washer to maintain a minimum temperature.
Select a wash temperature based on the type of fabric and
soils being washed. For best results follow the garment label
instructions, using the warmest wash water safe for your
fabric.

The Soil Level Control shortens or lengthens the wash cycle
depending on how soiled your laundry is.
Heavy Soil: Loads that require more thorough cleaning.
Regular Soil: Normally soiled laundry.
Light Soil: Lightly soiled laundry.
5
Extra Rinse
If you desire an extra rinse at the end of your regular cycle,
turn the Extra Rinse knob to ON.
On models without the Extra Rinse knob, choose a second
rinse by pushing the Cycle Control knob in and rotating it to
any of the “Rinse” cycle settings.

STARTING YOUR WASHER
WASHER USE
BEFORE STARTING THE WASHER:
Add all items and laundry products to the washer before pulling
the Cycle Control knob out to achieve full water and energy
savings. Opening the lid will reduce or eliminate water savings.
IMPORTANT: When washing any article of clothing, always
follow fabric care labels and manufacturer’s directions.
1. Measure detergent and add to the bottom of the washer. If
desired, add oxi or color-safe bleach products to the bottom
of the washer as well.
2. Loosely add sorted load of clothes to wash basket.
Load evenly to maintain washer balance.
Mix large and small items.
Use garment bags for smaller items.
Load only to the top of the basket as shown. Overloading can
cause poor cleaning, poor distribution of laundry products,
and an unbalanced wash load.
Using a cup with a pouring spout, measure amount of
bleach. Do not allow bleach to spill, splash, drip, or run
into the basket or on load. Do not use more than the
recommended amount.
NOTE: Undiluted bleach will damage any fabric it touches.
Damage may appear several washings later as rips, tears, holes,
and color loss.
4. Add liquid fabric softener to dispenser.
Fabric softener is added automatically
during the nal rinse cycle. Turn the
Fabric Softener knob to the Softener
Added position.
Measure recommended amount of liquid fabric softener.
Do not allow liquid fabric softener to spill, splash, drip,
or run into the basket or on load. Do not use more than
the recommended amount.
3. Add only liquid chlorine bleach to the dispenser. Bleach
is immediately added into the washer and is diluted
automatically during the wash cycle.
NOTE: Do not use this dispenser to add powdered chlorine or
color-safe bleach to your load.
6
Always dilute liquid fabric softener by lling the dispenser
with warm water until reaching the Max Fill Line arrows.
Undiluted fabric softener can stain fabrics.
5. Close the washer lid. Washer will not operate with lid open.
6. Select Temperature and Soil Level Option.
7. Select Extra Rinse Option, if desired.
Water Inlet Hoses
This washer does not include water inlet hoses. The use of
factory specied parts is recommended. See "Accessories" for
a list of factory specied hoses available for separate purchase.
These hoses are manufactured and tested to meet factory
specications.
Replace inlet hoses after 5 years of use to reduce the risk of hose
failure. Periodically inspect and replace inlet hoses if bulges,
kinks, cuts, wear, or leaks are found.
When replacing your inlet hoses, mark the date of replacement
on the label with a permanent marker.
Moving and Storage
Because some water may stay in the hoses, freezing can damage
your washer. If storing or moving your washer during freezing
weather, winterize it.
8. To select cycle, push the Cycle Control knob in and turn
clockwise to the cycle you want.
9. Start the washer by pulling out the Cycle control knob.
NOTE: For best water savings, avoid stopping the washer,
however if the washer does need to be stopped:
To stop at any time, push in the Cycle Control knob.
To restart, close the lid and pull out the Cycle Control knob.
WASHER CARE
Winterizing your washer
1. Shut off both water faucets. Disconnect and drain water inlet
hoses. Pour 1 qt (1 L) of R.V.-type antifreeze into the basket.
2. Run washer on a drain and spin setting for about 30 seconds
to mix the antifreeze and remaining water.
3. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
To use washer again
1. Flush water pipes and hoses. Reconnect water inlet hoses.
Turn on both water faucets.
Cleaning Your Washer
Use a soft, damp cloth or sponge to wipe up any spills such as
detergent or bleach from the outside of your washer.
Clean your washer interior by mixing 1 cup (250 mL) of chlorine
bleach and enough detergent to equal twice the manufacturer’s
recommended amount for a normal wash load. Pour this mixture
into your washer and run it through a complete cycle using hot
water. Repeat this process if necessary.
Remove any hard water deposits using only cleaners labeled as
washer safe.
Cleaning the liquid fabric softener dispenser
1. Remove dispenser by grasping top with both hands and
squeezing, while pushing upward with thumbs.
2. Rinse dispenser under warm water, then replace it.
NOTE: To avoid damage to the washer or clothing, do not wash
clothes with the liquid fabric softener dispenser removed.
2. Plug in washer or reconnect power.
3. Run the washer through a complete bulky items cycle with
1 cup (250 mL) of detergent to clean out antifreeze.
Storage, non-use, or vacation care
Operate your washer only when you are at home. If you will be on
vacation or not using your washer for an extended period of time,
you should:
1. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
2. Turn off the water supply to the washer. This helps avoid
ooding (due to a water pressure surge) while you are away.

Noisy
Is the load balanced and the washer level? The wash load
should be balanced and not overloaded. The washer must be
level. The front feet should be properly installed and the jam
nuts tightened. Reset the rear leveling legs (if needed). See
the Installation Instructions.
Did you completely remove the yellow shipping strap with
shipping pins? See the Installation Instructions.
Are the gears engaging after the drain and before spin, or
is the upper part of agitator clicking during wash? These
are normal washer noises.
Leaking
Check the following:
Are the ll hoses tight?
Are the ll hose washers properly seated?
Is the drain hose installed? See the Installation Instructions.
Is the sink or drain clogged? Sink and standpipe must be
able to handle 17 gal. (64 L.) of water per minute.
Is water deecting off the tub ring or the load? Center
the tub before starting the washer. The wash load should
be balanced and not overloaded. The ll or spray rinses can
bounce off the load. The washer must be level. The front
feet should be properly installed and the jam nuts tightened.
Reset the rear leveling legs (if needed). See the Installation
Instructions.
Check household plumbing for leaks.
Dispensers clogged or bleach leaking
Did you follow the manufacturer’s directions when adding

spills. Dilute fabric softener in the fabric softener dispenser.
Periodically clean the dispensers.
Did you put powdered color-safe bleach into the liquid
chlorine bleach dispenser? Add powdered color-safe bleach
directly to the basket.
Water level seems too low
Auto load sensing may use less water than you would
expect. This is normal and provides good fabric care.
Does the water level seem too low, or does the washer
appear to not ll completely? The top of the agitator is
much higher than the highest water level. This is normal and
necessary for clothes to move freely.
Water level seems too high
Did you open the lid or stop the washer while the washer
was lling to begin the wash? This will interrupt the sensing
feature and cause the washer to stop lling. Closing the lid
will resume ll, but the washer will add additional water to
compensate for any additional load items that might have
been added to the basket.
Did you open the lid after washing started or during the
rinse? The washer will ll to the highest water level once the
lid is closed.
Washer won’t run, ll, rinse, or agitate; washer stops
