CONDALERT™
CONDENSATE OVERFLOW DETECTION AND
CONTROL SHUTDOWN FOR PRIMARY AND SECONDARY/
AUXILIARY CONDENSATE DRAIN SYSTEMS
INTRODUCTION
Before proceeding with the installation or operation of the Little Giant Condalert™, read all instructions thoroughly, as well as complying with all Federal, State and Local Codes, Regulations and Practices. The Condalert™ must be installed by qualified personnel familiar with all applicable local electrical and mechanical codes.
The Little Giant Condalert™ is designed for the air handling industry to detect condensate drain overflow water in both the primary and secondary drain systems and shut down the condensing unit so the cooling coil will not produce more condensate water. When the Condalert™ detects water, in either primary or secondary drain system, the Condalert™ will activate its visual red LED and audible buzzer (Model: LC-310) while at the same time shutting down the condensing unit to prevent condensate water accumulations. When the probes are dried, the Condalert™ will automatically reset the system to normal operation.
The solid state circuitry is encapsulated in epoxy making the unit waterproof and tamperproof. The probes are stainless steel and will not rust. More than one Condalert™ may be installed on a troublesome unit to provide complete area protection. The Condalert™ may be connected to a monitoring unit or a remote alarm.
The Condalert™ must be installed in a 24 Volt AC Class 2 control circuit. Make electrical connections between the air handler and the condensing unit control for proper operation.

SAFETY GUIDELINES
1. DO NOT USE WITH FLAMMABLE OR EXPLOSIVE FLUIDS SUCH AS GASOLINE, FUEL OIL, KEROSENE, ETC. DO NOT USE IN EXPLOSIVE ATMOSPHERES. SWITCH SHOULD ONLY BE USED WITH WATER.
2. DO NOT HANDLE SWITCH WITH WET HANDS OR WHEN STANDING ON A WET OR DAMP SURFACE, OR IN WATER.
3. DISCONNECT ALL ELECTRICAL SERVICE TO THE SWITCH BEFORE WORKING ON OR HANDLING THE UNIT.
4. DO NOT CONNECT TO VOLTAGE ABOVE 24VAC MAXIMUM OR AMPERAGE ABOVE 1.0 AMP.
5. DO NOT OPERATE UNLESS COMPLETELY ASSEMBLED.
6. IN ANY INSTALLATION WHERE PROPERTY DAMAGE AND/OR PERSONAL INJURY MIGHT RESULT FROM AN INOPERATIVE SWITCH DUE TO POWER OUTAGES, OR ANY OTHER REASON, A BACKUP SYSTEM(S) AND/ OR ALARM SHOULD BE USED.
7. DO NOT MODIFY, CUT, SAW, SAND OR GRIND ANY PART OF THE CONDALERT. DOING SO MAY CAUSE HARMFUL EMISSIONS.
CONNECT THE CONDALERT BETWEEN THE LOW VOLTAGE (24 VAC) HVAC CONTROLS AND THE CONDENSING UNIT CONTROL CIRCUIT.
IF THE CONDALERT GOES INTO ALARM CONDITION DUE TO WATER DETECTION, THE RED LED AND ALARM BUZZER (ON MODELS WITH BUZZER) WILL ACTIVATE. AT THE SAME TIME THE COMPRESSOR/CONDENSOR UNIT WILL SHUT DOWN. THE AIR HANDLER FAN WILL STILL OPERATE TO PROVIDE AIR CIRCULATION IF INSTALLED PROPERLY.
IF THE CONDALERT IS CONNECTED BETWEEN THE THERMOSTAT AND HVAC CONTROL SYSTEM, THIS WOULD PREVENT AIR HANDLER FAN FROM OPERATING.
1. Turn off all power to the air handler and condensing unit.
Install Condalert Control Main Unit in Secondary/Auxiliary Pan
2. Determine location for leak detection. Place the Condalert in drain pan whenever possible. Condalert may be set in pan or attached in location using the double sided tape provided. See Figure 1 & 2. Do not attach to the pan until testing is complete. If you do not have a drain pan, place the Condalert under or near the air handler where condensate over flow will collect. A water stain from a previous over flow marks a good location. CAUTION: CONFIRM CONDALERT CONTROL SENSORS ARE NOT IN CONTACT WITH SURFACE.
Install the Condalert Primary Probe Sensor
3. Install a 3/4" male adapter in primary pan drain line if not present. Install and glue desired length of 3/4" PVC pipe into the 3/4" male adapter and the included 3/4" PVC TEE (see Figure 2). Install trap and drain line as required by code. Place the Condalert Primary Probe into the top of the 3/4" PVC TEE. Seat all the way in. WARNING! DO NOT GLUE PRIMARY SENSOR
INTO THE TEE.
See Figure 4 for optional Primary Probe placement.

Connect Control Wires
4. Locate the two 24 VAC low voltage control wires that run from the air handler, out to the condensing unit (see Figure 3 for Typical Installation Wire Diagram). Carefully strip off the outer cable insulation and cut the 24 volt cooling control wire then make the “black” and “red” connections per Figure 3. The cut
wire that comes from the air handler must connect to the “black” wire of the Condalert. The cut wire that goes to the condensing unit must connect to the “red” wire of the Condalert. The “white” wire from the
Condalert connects to the remaining common 24 volt wire that was not cut. It is recommended to put a delay on make timer on condenser contactor coil to prevent short cycling. The “green” wire from the Condalert is used for a remote annunciator installation. If you are not using a remote annunciator, do not make any connections to the “green” wire.
5. Turn on power to the air handler and the condensing unit. Set the thermostat to call for the air conditioner to start. Check that the air handler and condensing unit are both operating. Place the Condalert Control Sensors onto a wet paper towel. The sensors are two stainless steel pins located on the bottom of the Condalert Control box. The Condalert will go into alarm condition when the sensors are wet. The red LED will illuminate and the buzzer will sound (buzzer model only). Check to see that the condensing unit is shut down and the air handler fan is still running. After test, dry off the Condalert probes on the bottom of the unit. Also test the unit by placing the primary probe sensors in water or by plugging the trap and filling the primary pan. Finally, attach the Condalert Control to the secondary pan with the double sided tape if you require.
