Introduction
Virtual Power On Call (VPOC™) is a highly-efficient backup power solution that uses a fraction of the space of a conventional Uninterruptable Power System (UPS). The 10kW VPOC™ module, along with two Lithium Ion (Li-ion) battery modules, slides into the 1U VPOC™ Shelf. VPOC™ automatically manages transitions between normal (AC) operation and battery mode (DC) to keep IT equipment safe during power interruptions. An external VRLA battery solution may be substituted for Li-ion batteries for even longer backup times. For more information about the 10kW VPOC™ Power Shelf, refer to the Lite-On 10kW VPOC Power Shelf Datasheet.
The 10kW Power Module efficiently supplies both main output AC power and standby DC power from either AC or DC sources. For more information about the 10kW VPOC™ Power Module, refer to the Lite-On 10kW VPOC™ Power Module Datasheet.
This startup guide provides instructions to startup the 10kW VPOC™ Power System for the first time. It assumes that the VPOC™ Supply System has been properly installed and is ready for initial power up and testing. For instructions on installation and user information, refer to the Lite-On VPOC™ System User Guide.

harm or death to personnel. Initial Startup Checklist
Yes?
No?
Is the rack properly installed, leveling feet down, and physically stable?
Are all rack screws and bolts tightened properly?
Is the rack properly grounded electrically?
Is the VPOC™ Power shelf properly installed in the rack so it cannot be pulled out?
Are all electrical cables the correct size?
Do all cable installations meet local electrical standards?
Are all power and control cables secured, routed, and properly terminated?
Are all electrical bolts and screws properly installed and tightened?
Does the power source meet electrical current and voltage requirements?
Is the VPOC™ Power shelf properly connected to branch circuit overcurrent protection in accordance with the National Electric Code, ANSI/NFPA 70?
Is the installation area dry and away from liquids?
Is the air temperature within normal operating range?
Is the area clean and free of debris and packing materials?
Are all people wearing proper protective equipment as defined by local standards?
Do all people in the area know the location of emergency power-off switches, fire extinguishers, and first aid equipment?
Startup Checklist
Before activating input power to the VPOC™ Power System, verify that all conditions in the Initial Startup Checklist table below have been met. At this point, the following components should be properly installed:
VPOC™ Power shelf into its rack
All power switches and breakers on the VPOC™ Power shelf, Power Distribution Module (PDM),
and VRLA battery shelf are in the OFF position
The maintenance bypass switch on the VPOC™ Power shelf is in its default, locked position (OFF), with the safety bracket installed so it cannot be accidentally turned on
VPOC™ Power shelf input wiring and output wiring to VPOC™ PDUs
VPOC™ Power Module installed into the VPOC™ shelf
Either VPOC™ Li-ion or VRLA batteries are installed

Initial Power Activation
To activate power to the VPOC™ Power System the first time:
1. Turn on the circuit breaker that supplies power to the VPOC™ Power System. All lights on the VPOC™ front panel illuminate for a few seconds and the VPOC™ Power Module fans come on at full speed.
2. Wait for the VPOC™ Power System to fully start up (approximately 10 to 15 seconds). After the system has completed start up, verify that the following green lights on the front panel are illuminated:
AC Output Indicator (see 1 below)
AC Input Indicator (see 2 below)
Battery Level Indicators (see 3 below)
Load Level Indicators (see 4 below) if load is present
PDU AC Voltage Test
After the VPOC™ Power System has started successfully; verify PDU AC voltage using a DMM.
To test PDU AC voltage:
1. Verify that the PDU power light is illuminated.
2. Using a DMM, measure the line-to-line AC voltage of one of the PDU outlets.
3. Verify that AC voltage is the same as the line voltage feeding the VPOC™ Power System (208VAC– 240VAC). Note: If no voltage is present, but the PDU power light illuminates, check the PDU fuses.
PDU DC Voltage Test
After a successful PDU AC voltage test, verify that the VPOC™ Power System can supply DC voltage to the PDU when AC power is lost.
To test PDU DC voltage:
1. If using VRLA batteries, turn on the breaker of each VRLA battery connected to the VPOC™ Power Shelf.
2. If using internal Li-ion battery modules, they should already be installed into the VPOC™ Power Shelf as described in the Lite-On VPOC™ Power System User Guide.

3. By observing the VPOC™ Power Shelf front panel, verify that its batteries are charged to 20% or more (20% light is solid). If they are not at that level, wait until they reach a charge of 20% or more before proceeding.
4. Turn off the main breaker for the VPOC™ Power System to disconnect it from AC power. The VPOC™ Power System switches to DC mode, the amber battery light illuminates, and the AC Input Indicator turns off.
5. Using a DMM, measure the line-to-line DC voltage of one of the PDU outlets that is connected to the VPOC™ Power System.
6. Verify that the PDU DC voltage is approximately 200–290 VDC (this is the battery voltage). Note: If no voltage is present, but the PDU power light illuminates, check the PDU fuses.
7. Turn on the main circuit breaker that supplies power to the VPOC™ Power System. The amber battery light turns off and the AC Input Indicator illuminates.
This completes the initial startup test for the VPOC™ Power System; the system is ready to use if all tests have successfully completed.
