About the Symbol Display
” may appear on your TV display during operation and indicates that the function explained in this owner’s manual is not available on that specific DVD video disc.
Regional code
This unit has a regional code printed on the rear of the unit. This unit can play only DVD discs labeled same as the rear of the unit or “ALL”.
• Most DVD discs have a globe with one or more numbers in it clearly visible on the cover. This number must match your unit’s regional code or the disc cannot play.
• If you try to play a DVD with a different regional code from your player, the message “Check Regional Code” appears on the TV screen.

It is forbidden by law to copy, broadcast, show, broadcast via cable, play in public, or rent copyrighted material without permission. This product features the copy protection function developed by Macrovision. Copy protection signals are recorded on some discs. When recording and playing the pictures of these discs picture noise will appear. In addition, this unit can play a DVD±R/RW, SVCD and CD-R or CD-RW that contains audio titles, MP3, WMA, JPEG files. Depending on the conditions of the recording equipment or the CD-R/RW (or DVD±R/RW) disc itself, some CD-R/RW (or DVD±R/RW) discs may not be played on the unit due to the recording quality or physical condition of the disc, or the characteristics of the recording device and authoring software. The disc will not play if it has not been correctly finalized. Player does not support these kinds of discs.

Precautions in using the touch Volume
• Use the touch volume with clean and dry hands.
- In a humid environment, wipe out any moisture on the touch volume before using.
• Do not press the touch volume hard to make it work.
- If you apply too much strength, it can damage the sensor of the touch volume.
• Be careful not to have any conductive material such as metallic object on the touch volume. It can cause malfunctions.

Attaching the speakers to the unit
Connect the wires to the unit.
Match each wire’s coloured band to the same coloured connection terminal on the reverse of the unit. To connect the cable to the unit, press each plastic finger pad to open the connection terminal. Insert the wire and release the finger pad

Remote control Operation
Point the Remote Control at the remote sensor and press the buttons.
Remote control Battery Installation
Detach the battery cover on the rear of the remote control, and insert two R03 (size AAA) batteries with 3 and # aligned correctly. Do not mix old and new batteries. Never mix different types of batteries (stan­dard, alkaline, etc.).
Connect the red end of each wire to the terminals marked +(plus) and the black end to the terminals marked - (minus).
To connect the cable to the center speakers, press each plastic finger pad to open the connection terminals on the back of center speaker. Insert the wire and release the finger pad. (Only XD5100DV)

Hooking up the unit - I
MONITOR jack connection
Connect the MONITOR jack on the unit to the corresponding input jacks on your TV using a Video cable.
INPUT (L-AUX-R) jacks connection
Connect a VCR or Auxiliary device, etc. to the INPUT jack of this unit. .
Press the INPUT button on the remote control until the “AUX” indicator is displayed in the dis­play window.

Adjust the language settings
OSD– Select a language for the Setup menu and on-screen display.
Disc Audio/Subtitle/Disc Menu – Select a language for the
Menu/Audio/Subtitle.
[Original]: Refers to the original language in which the disc was recorded. [Others]: To select another language, press number buttons then SELECT/ENTER to enter the corresponding 4-digit number according to the language code list in the reference chapter . If you make a mistake while entering number, press CLEAR to delete num­bers then correct it. [OFF] (for Disc Subtitle): Turn off Subtitle.
Adjust the display settings
TV Aspect – Select which screen aspect to use based on the shape of your TV
screen.
[4:3]: Select when a standard 4:3 TV is connected. [16:9]: Select when a 16:9 wide TV is connected.
Display Mode – If you selected 4:3, you’ll need to define how you would like widescreen programs and films to be displayed on your TV screen.
[Letterbox]: This displays a widescreen picture with black bands at the top and bottom of the screen. [Panscan]: This fills the entire 4:3 screen, cropping the picture as necessary.

TV Output Select (Optional) – Select an option according to the TV connection
type. [YPbPr]: When your TV is connected with the COMPONENT/PROGRES­SIVE SCAN jacks on the unit.
[RGB]: When your TV is connected with the SCART jack.
- When connected by RGB, COMPONENT OUT not operate.
Progressive Scan-
Progressive Scan Video provides the high quality pictures with less flickering. If you are using the Component Video jacks for connection to a TV or monitor that is compatible with a progressive scan signal, set [Progressive Scan] to [On]. Press SELECT/ENTER to comfirm your selection
- If you not press ENTER within 10 seconds it will be [OFF].
- If you have no progressive scan TV , in the state progressive scan [on] will not appear the screen
Adjust the audio settings
5.1 Speaker Setup-
Press SELECT/ENTER, and the 5.1 Speaker Setup menu appears. Use b / B to select the desired speaker. Adjust options using v / V / b / B buttons. Press SELECT/ENTER to confirm your selection. Returns to the previous menu. [Speaker]: Select a speaker that you want to adjust. [Size]: Since the speaker settings are fixed, you cannot change the settings. [Volume]: Press b / B to adjust the output level of the selected speaker. (-5dB ~ 5dB) [Distance]: If you connected speakers to your DVD/CD Receiver, setting the Distance lets the speakers know how far the sound has to travel to reach your set listening point. This allows the sound from each speaker to reach the listener at the same time. Press b / B to adjust the Distance of the selected speaker. (You can’t adjust front / Woofer speakers) [Test]: Press b / B to test the signals of each speaker. Adjust the volume to match the volume of test signals memorized in the system.
DRC (Dynamic Range Control) – Make the sound clear when the volume is turned down (Dolby Digital only). Set to [On] for this effect.
Vocal – Select [On] to mix karaoke channels into normal stereo. This function is effective for multi-channel karaoke DVDs only.
Adjust the lock settings
To access the lock options, you must enter the 4-digit password. If you have not yet entered a password you are prompted to do so. Enter a 4-digit password. Enter it again to verify. If you make a mistake while entering number, press CLEAR to delete numbers then correct it.
If you forget your password you can reset it. Press SETUP and Input ‘210499’. The password has now been cleared.
Rating – Select a rating level. The lower the level, the stricter the rating. Select [UNLOCK] to deactivate the rating.
Password – Sets or changes the password for lock settings.
[New]: Enter a new 4-digits password using the numerical buttons then press SELECT/ENTER. Enter the password again to confirm. [Change]: Enter the new password twice after entering the current password.
Area code – Select a code for a geographic area as the playback rating level. This determines which area’s standards are used to rate DVDs controlled by the parental lock. See the Area Codes on page 21.
Adjust the others settings
PBC (Playback Control) – Playback control provides special navigation fea-
tures that are available on some Video CDs. Select [On] to use this feature.
DivX (R) Registration - We provide you with the DivX® VOD (Video On Demand) registration code that allows you to rent and purchase videos using the DivX® VOD service. For more information, visit www.divx.com/vod. Press SELECT/ENTER when [Select] icon is highlighted and you can view the registration code of the unit. Semi Karaoke - When a chapter/ title / track is fully finished, this function shows the score in the screen with a fanfare sound.
Semi Karaoke on : Turn the “Semi Karaoke” function on. When you finished singing a score will appear on the screen.
Semi Karaoke off : Turn the “Semi Karaoke” function off. Fanfare and score do not appears on the screen Available discs for the Semi Karaoke function:
- DVD ,DVD Karaoke ,VCD discs with more than 2 tracks
- This function operate on the DVD/CD mode.
- The Semi Karaoke function is available only when a microphone is connected.
- When you watching movies, “off ” the Semi Karaoke at the SETUP menu and enjoy it without connecting the MIC if the fanfare or score appears during changing a chapter.
Bit Rate - Select Bit Rate signal speed 96kbps or 128kbps (Rec. Bit rate)

Press and hold TIMER for two seconds. Each function, DVD/CD,USB TAPE,TUNER flashes for two seconds. Press SET when the function you want to be woken by is showing.
If you choose TUNER, “PLAY” and “REC” flashes in the display window alternately. Choose one of them by pressing SET and then, select the preset using

and press SET. If you choose DVD/CD,USB or TAPE you will be shown below. You will be shown the “ON TIME” display. This is where you set the time
you want the alarm to go off. Use

to change the hours and minutes and SET to save. You will then be shown the “OFF TIME” dis­play. This is where you set the time you want the function to stop. Use

Next you will be shown the volume (VOL) you want to be woken by. Use

tem off. The clock icon shows that the alarm is set. When the system is turned off you can check the time the alarm is set for
by pressing TIMER. You can also turn the alarm on and off by pressing TIMER. To set the alarm to go off at a different time, switch the system on and reprogramme following the same steps as initially. NOTE : If the DISC 1 tray is emptied in the CD alarm setting,it will not be operate.

Fall asleep while listening to your player

Playing a Disc - more you can do
Playing a DVD or Video CD that has a menu
Most DVD or Video CD now have menus which load first before the film begins to play. You can navigate these menus using vV b B or number button to high­light an option. Press SELECT/ENTER to select.
Skip to the next/previous chapter/track
Press SKIP (>) to move to the next chapter/track. Press SKIP (.) to return to the beginning of the current chapter/track. Press SKIP (.) twice briefly to step back to the previous chapter/track.
Pause a playback
Press PAUSE/STEP (X) to pause playback. Press PLAY ( NN) to continue playback.
Frame-by-Frame playback
Press PAUSE/STEP (X) repeatedly to play Frame-by-Frame playback.
Playing repeatedly
Press REPEAT repeatedly to select an item to be repeated. The current title, chapter or track will be played back repeatedly. To return to normal playback, press REPEAT repeatedly to select [Off]. On a Video CD with PBC, you must set PBC to Off to use this function.

Selecting a subtitle language
During playback, press S-TITLE ( ) repeatedly to select a desired subtitle lan­guage.
Fast forward or fast reverse
Press SCAN (m or M) to play fast forward or fast reverse during playback. You can change the various playback speed by pressing SCAN (m or M) repeatedly. Press PLAY ( NN) to continue play at normal speed.
Watch and listen 1.5 times faster
Press PLAY when a disc is already playing to watch and listen to a DVD 1.5 times faster than normal playback speed. B x1.5 will appear on the screen. Press PLAY again to return to normal playback speed.
Slow down the playing speed
While playback is paused, press SCAN (M) to slow down forward playback. You can change the various playback speed by pressing SCAN (M) repeated­ly. Press PLAY (NN) to continue play at normal speed. DVD disc can operate Slow down Forward/ Reverse playback only.
Viewing the title menu
Press TITLE to display the disc's title menu, if available.
Viewing the DVD menu
Press MENU to display the disc menu, if available.
Starting play from selected time
Searches for the starting point of entered time code. Press DISPLAY then select clock icon. Enter a time then press SELECT/ENTER. For example, to find a scene at 1 hours, 10 minutes, and 20 seconds, enter "11020" and press SELECT/ENTER. If you enter the wrong number, press CLEAR to enter again. On a Video CD with PBC, you must set PBC to Off to use this function.

Last Scene Memory
This unit memorizes last scene from the last disc that is viewed. The last scene remains in memory even if you remove the disc from the player or switch off the unit. If you load a disc that has the scene memorized, the scene is auto­matically recalled.
Screen Saver
The screen saver appears when you leave the unit in Stop mode for about five minutes. If the Screen Saver is displayed for five minutes, the unit automatically turns itself off.
System Select
You must select the appropriate system mode for your TV system. Remove any disc that might be in the unit, press and hold PAUSE/STEP (X) for more than five seconds to be able to select a system (PAL, NTSC, AUTO).
Mixed disc or USB Flash Drive – DivX, MP3/WMA and JPEG
When playing a disc or USB Flash Drive contained with DivX, MP3/WMA and JPEG files together, you can select which menu of files you would like to play by pressing TITLE.
Playing a DivX movie file - more you can do
Changing the character set to display DivX®subtitle correctly
If the subtitle does not display properly,press and hold S-TITLE button about 3seconds to display the language code menu and then,press S-TITLE button repeatly to change the language code until the subtitle is displayed properly.
DivX disc compatibility with this player is limited as follows:
Available resolution size of the DivX file is under 800x600 (W x H) pixel.
The file name of the DivX subtitle is available by 45 characters.
If there is impossible code to express in the DivX file, it may be displayed as
" _ " mark on the display.
• If the number of the screen frame is over 30 per 1 second, this unit may not operate normally.
• If the video and audio structure of recorded files are not interleaved, either video or audio is outputted.

Creating your own program
You can play the contents of a disc in the order you want by arranging the order of the musics on the disc. The program is cleared when the disc is removed. Select a desired music then press PROG./MEMO. or select “ “ and then press SELECT/ENTER to add the music to the program list. To add all music in the disc, select “ ” and then press SELECT/ENTER. Select a music from the program list then press SELECT/ENTER to start programmed playback.To clear a music from the program list, select the music you want to clear then press
CLEAR or select “

Displaying file information (ID3 TAG )
While playing a MP3 file containing file information, you can display the informa­tion by pressing DISPLAY repeatedly.
MP3 / WMA disc compatibility with this player is limited as follows:
•Sampling frequency: within 32 - 48 kHz (MP3), within 24 - 48kHz (WMA)
•Bit rate: within 32 - 320kbps (MP3), 40 - 192kbps (WMA)
•The unit cannot read an MP3/WMA file that has a file extension other than “.mp3” / “.wma”.
•CD-R physical format should be ISO 9660
•If you record MP3 / WMA files using software that cannot create a file system (eg. Direct-CD) it is impossible to playback MP3 / WMA files.We recommend that you use Easy-CD Creator, which creates an ISO 9660 file system.
•File names should have a maximum of 8 letters and must incorporate an .mp3 or .wma extension.
•They should not contain special letters such as / ? * : “ < > l etc.
•The total number of files on the disc should be less than 999. This unit requires discs and recordings to meet certain technical standards in order to achieve optimal playback quality. Pre-recorded DVDs are automatical­ly set to these standards. There are many different types of recordable disc for­mats (including CD-R containing MP3 or WMA files) and these require certain pre-existing conditions (see above) to ensure compatible playback.
Customers should note that permission is required in order to download MP3 / WMA files and music from the Internet. Our company has no right to grant such permission. Permission should always be sought from the copyright owner.

Improve poor FM reception

The FM tuner is supplied with the Radio Data System (RDS) facility. This shows the letters RDS on the display, plus information about the radio sta­tion being listened to. Press RDS

JPEG disc compatibility with this player is limited as follows:
• Depending upon the size and the number of JPEG files, it could take a long time for the this unit. to read the disc’s contents. If you don’t see an on­screen display after several minutes, some of the files may be too large — reduce the resolution of the JPEG files to less than 2M pixels as 2760 x 2048 pixels and burn another disc.
• The total number of files and folders on the disc should be less than 999.
• Some discs may not operate due to a different recording format or the condi­tion of disc.
• Ensure that all the selected files have the “.jpg” extensions when copying into the CD layout.
• If the files have “.jpe” or “.jpeg” extensions, please rename them as “.jpg” file.
• File names without “.jpg” extension will not be able to be read by this unit. Even though the files are shown as JPEG image files in Windows Explorer.

The advantage of connecting your portable USB player through the system’s USB port is that the portable device can be controlled from the system. Connect the portable player to the system using a USB cable (not supplied).

- When you start the USB direct recording ,you can check the Recording percentage rate for the USB record on the display window during the recording.
- During the recording is no sound and not operate for volume .
- When you stop recording during playback ,the file that has been recorded at that time will be stored
- If you disconnect the USB without STOP button while recording ,the file can not delete in the PC.
- It is impossible to record from “ MIC IN”

- New files are numbered in numeric sequence. if the total number of the files are more than 999, delete some or store some in PC.
- External HDD,Card reader, Locked device and MP3 player is not support­ed.

POWER
The power cord is not plugged in.
Plug in the power cord.
No sound
Some noise occurs.
RADIO
The function switch is not set to the Radio mode. There are electronic devices near the player.
The antenna is positioned or connected poorly
Set the switch to the Radio mode.
Set the player far from the devices.
Check the anntena connection and adjust its position
The unit does not start play­back
No picture
DVD/CD
An unplayable disc is inserted. The disc is placed upside down. The disc is not placed within the guide.
The disc is dirty. The TV is not set to receive the video signal
Insert a playable disc. Place the disc with the playback side down. Place the disc on the disc tray correctly inside the guide.
Clean the disc. Select the apporate video input model on the TV so the
picture from the unit appears on the TV
Unable to record
TAPE
Record protect tabs are removed. Cover holes on back edge of tape with tap.
REMOTE CONTROL
The remote control is not pointed at the remote sensor of the unit directly.
Point the remote control to front panel directly of the unit.
The remote control does not work properly.
The batteries in the remote control are exhausted. Replace the batteries with new ones.
