REGIONAL CODES
This unit has a regional code printed on the
rear of the unit and can play only DVD discs
labelled with the same code as on the rear of
the unit or “ALL”.
Most DVD discs have a globe with one or more numbers in it
clearly visible on the cover. This number must match your unit’s
regional code or the disc cannot play. If you try to play a DVD
with a different regional code from the unit, the message
“Incorrect region code. Can’t play back” appears on the
TV screen.
DISPOSAL OF YOUR OLD UNIT
The wheeled bin symbol means the unit and remote
control is covered by the European Directive 2002/96/EC.

Connect terrestrial TV aerial to the ‘ANTENNA IN’ port on the unit. If you
use an indoor aerial, select one with a signal amplifi er rated at 5v, 100mA
and set [Antenna Feed 5V] to [ON] in the set-up menu.
2. ANTENNA CONNECTION TO TV
Connect cable to ‘ANTENNA OUT’ port on the unit and to ‘ANTENNA IN’
port on TV so you can watch the TV without switching the unit on.
SCART CABLE
DO NOT connect or disconnect SCART cable whilst unit or TV is switched on.
SCART cable connections are quick & simple to connect.
Take the supplied SCRAT cable and connect to AV1 SCART port on the
unit. Then connect to an available SCART port on TV.
4. CONNECT MAINS POWER
Connect the power cord to ‘AC IN’ terminal on the unit. Then plug the
power cord into mains socket. Turn POWER ON to the unit and TV.
HDMI connection is the digital replacement to the old SCART standard
and provides the best picture and sound quality as well as being quick and
simple to connect.
Connect to HDMI OUTPUT port on the unit and to HDMI INPUT port on your TV.
You can change the resolution (576i, 576p, 720p, 1080i or 1080p) for the
HDMI output by pressing RES button on the front of the unit repeatedly.

Connect to S-VIDEO OUTPUT port on the unit and to S-Video INPUT port

To connect a High Defi nition television or other HDMI enabled device:

Cinema Dolby Digital / MPEG or DTS decoder via a Digital Audio
Connection (coaxial or optical).
To connect an amplifi er/receiver, Dolby Digital/MPEG/DTS decoder or
other digital equipment:
• Use a digital audio cable (coaxial or optical) to connect Digital
Audio Output port on Unit to corresponding port on amplifi er
For DTS Multi-channel Surround:
• Connect Unit to a DTS compatible receiver via Unit’s Digital
Audio Output.
To choose digital audio signal when using a Digital Audio Output port:

MOVING TO ANOTHER TITLE
To display information about a title on a disc where there is more
than one title:
a) Press [INFO] button on remote control twice during playback
b) Select title icon
c) Press number button [0-9] or [
d) Press OK [

STARTING PLAYBACK FROM SELECTED TIME
a) Press [INFO] twice during playback. Time search box shows
elapsed playing time.
b) Select the time search box
c) Enter required start time in hours, minutes and seconds.
Eg: to start at 2 hours, 10 minutes and 20 seconds, enter “21020”
• To correct errors:
i Press [
] to move underscore: _ to number needing
correction
ii Enter correct numbers.
d) Press OK [

SELECTING A SUBTITLE LANGUAGE
a) Press [INFO] twice during playback. Playback menu is
displayed.
b) Select subtitle option
c) Select subtitle language
d) Press OK [

a) Press [SUBTITLE] button on remote control during playback
b) Press [Left, Right] repeatedly to select subtitle language
c) Press OK [

WATCHING FROM A DIFFERENT ANGLE
To select camera angle for viewing, if available:
a) Press [INFO] twice to display playback menu
b) Select angle option
c) Select desired angle
d) Press OK [

SELECTING A SOUND MODE
This Unit can produce a 3D Surround Sound effect to simulate multichannel audio playback.
a) Press [INFO] twice to display playback menu
b) Select sound option
c) Select sound mode: 3D SUR. or NORMAL
d) Press OK [
• Advanced editing functions require VR mode formatted
DVD (DVD-RW or DVD-RAM).
• Original title or Playlist can be edited.
• Editing of Original title is fi nal.
• Playlists can be created for editing purposes.
EDITING A TITLE
To edit recordings on DVD or HDD:
a) Ensure playback stopped
b) Press [HDD] or [DVD]
c) Press [MENU/LIST]
d) Select title to edit
e) Press OK [
] to display menu in left panel
To edit a VR mode disc:
• Press [MENU/LIST] to switch between original and playlist menus
ADDING CHAPTER MARKERS: HDD, -RW VR, +RW, +R, RAM
To create chapters within a title during recording (except for HDD)
or playback:
• Press [MARKER] at desired point. Chapter marker icon is displayed.
DELETING A TITLE OR CHAPTER
To delete a title or chapter:
a) Ensure playback stopped
b) Press [HDD] or [DVD]
c) Press [MENU/LIST]
d) Select title / chapter to delete
• For multiple deletion on HDD only:
i Press [MARKER]
ii Repeat for each fi le to be deleted
e) Press OK [
f) Select Delete option from menu on left panel
] to display editing menu
g) Press OK [ ]
• If item was on Playlist, it is deleted from Playlist but not
from Original
• If item was on Original recording, it is deleted both from
Original and from Playlist
h) Press OK [

CREATING / ADDING TO A PLAYLIST: -RW VR, RAM
A Playlist allows you to edit or re-edit a title or chapter without
changing the Original recording.
a) To add an Original title or chapter to a Playlist:
b) Ensure playback stopped
c) Press [DVD]
d) Press [MENU/LIST]
e) Select title to edit
f) Press OK [
g) Press OK [

• To add title/chapter to an existing Playlist:
• Select Playlist name
To add title/chapter to a new Playlist:

To re-arrange playing order of a Playlist title on Chapter List/ Playlist
menu:
a) Ensure playback stopped

To play back a title by time when recording was made:
a) Ensure playback stopped
b) Press [HDD] or [DVD]
c) Press [MENU/LIST]
d) Select title to play
e) Select Search option from menu in left panel
f) Press OK [

• Category (genre)

COMBINING TITLES: HDD
To merge selected title with another title:
a) Ensure playback stopped
b) Press [HDD]
c) Press [MENU/LIST]
d) Select title to merge

g) Select Combine from menu in left panel
h) Press OK [

i) Select a title to combine with current title

HIDING A CHAPTER OR TITLE
To skip past a chapter or title without viewing during playback:
a) Ensure playback stopped
b) Press [DVD] or [HDD]
c) Press [MENU/LIST]
d) Select chapter / title to hide
e) Press OK [
] to display editing menu
f) Select Edit option to display editing menu
g) Select Hide option from menu in left panel
h) Press OK [

To recover the hidden title or chapter:
i) Select Show option from editing menu in left panel
j) Press OK [

VIEWING TITLE LIST MENU DISPLAYED ON ANOTHER UNIT
To view title list menu displayed on another unit capable of playing
DVD+RW or DVD+R discs:
• Press [TITLE] during playback or when stopped. Title List menu
is displayed.
If [TITLE] button unavailable due to digital broadcasts:
To protect a title against accidental recording, editing or deletion:
a) Ensure playback stopped
b) Press [DVD] or [HDD]
c) Press [MENU/LIST]
d) Select title to protect
e) Press OK [
f) Select Edit option to display editing menu
g) Select Protect option from left panel
h) Press OK [
To unprotect the title:
i) Select Unprotect option from editing menu in left panel
j) Press OK [

DELETING A PART
To delete part of title:

To change a title name:
a) Ensure playback stopped
b) Press [DVD] or [HDD]
c) Press [MENU/LIST]
d) Select title

f) Select Edit option from menu in left panel
g) Select Rename or Title name from editing menu in left panel
h) Press OK [

• To use shortcuts on remote control to enter a name:
PLAY [
PAUSE/STEP [ ]: Deletes a character after cursor position

] / [CLEAR]: Deletes character before cursor position
]: Moves cursor to left or right
[MENU/LIST] / [INFO]: Changes character set on keyboard menu.
Numbers [0-9]: Enters that number at cursor position
• To apply a genre for a selected title on HDD:
i Highlight a character on keyboard menu
ii Press and hold [
] until curser jumps across to Genre option
ii Highlight genre
iv Press OK [
] to select. Chosen genre name will appear at
lower right corner of title thumbnail.
j) Select OK on keyboard menu to confi rm new name (and genre)
COMBINING CHAPTERS
To merge selected chapter with previous chapter:
a) Ensure playback stopped
b) Press [DVD] or [HDD]
c) Press [MENU/LIST]
d) Select chapter
e) Press OK [
f) Select Edit option to display editing menu
g) Select Combine. Combine indicator is displayed between
chapter thumbnails.
h) Press OK [
NB This function will not work if:
• There is only one chapter in title
• First chapter is selected
• Chapters to be combined are created by deleting part of
Original title
• Chapters to be combined are created from different titles
• One of Playlist chapters to be combined has been moved

USING THE DISC MENU
To use disc setting functions without entering set up menu:
a) Press [DVD] on remote control to select DVD mode
b) Press [MENU/LIST]
c) Select Disc option
d) Press OK [
] to display further options:
• Disc Format: Format disc
• Finalize: Finalize disc
• Unfi nalize: Unfi nalize disc
• Disc Label: Supply a name for disc. Name will appear when
disc is loaded
• Protect: Prevent accidental recording, editing, deleting of the
inserted disc
• Unprotect: Remove protect function
OVERWRITING
To overwrite an unprotected video recording:
a) Select TV channel or input source you want to record
b) Press [MENU/LIST]
c) Select a title to overwrite
d) Press REC [
To stop the recording:
• Press STOP [
If recording is longer than title being overwritten, following title will
also be overwritten, unless protected.
If following title is protected, overwriting stops.
a) Press [DVD] to select mode
b) Press [MENU/LIST]
c) Select fi le or folder to copy
To copy more fi les or folders:
• Select next fi le
• Press [MARKER] when each one is highlighted.
d) Press OK [
e) Select Edit from menu in left panel
f) Press OK [
g) Select Copy option. Copy menu is displayed.
h) Press OK [
