• Depending on the conditions of the recording equip­ment or the CD-R/RW (or DVD±R/RW) disc itself, some CD-R/RW (or DVD±R/RW) discs cannot be played on the unit.
• Do not attach any seal or label to either side (the labeled side or the recorded side) of a disc.
Do not use irregularly shaped CDs (e.g., heart-shaped or octagonal). It may result in malfunctions.

Note on DVDs and Video CDs
Some playback operations of DVDs and Video CDs may be intentionally fixed by software manufacturers. As this unit plays DVDs and Video CDs according to disc content designed by the software manufacturer, some playback features of the unit may not be available or other functions may be added. Refer also to the instructions supplied with the DVDs and Video CDs. Some DVDs made for business purpos­es may not be played on the unit.
Regional Code
This unit has a regional code printed on the rear of the unit. This unit can play only DVD discs labelled as the same as the rear of the unit or “ALL”.
Notes on Regional Codes
• Most DVD discs have a globe with one or more num­bers in it clearly visible on the cover. This number must match your unit’s regional code or the disc can­not play.
• If you try to play a DVD with a different regional code from your player, the message “Check Regional Code” appears on the TV screen.

Point the remote control toward the remote sensor and press the buttons.
Distance: About 23 ft (7 m) from the front of the
remote sensor

Detach the battery cover on the rear of the remote con­trol, and insert two R03 (size AAA) batteries with and

Make one of the following connections, depending on the capabilities of your existing equipment.

• Depending on your TV and other equipment you wish to connect, there are various ways you could connect the
unit
. Use one of the connections described below.
• Please refer to the manuals of your TV, VCR, Stereo System or other devices as necessary to make the best connections.

Caution
Make sure the unit is connected directly to the TV. Select the correct AV input on your TV.
• Do not connect your
unit
to TV via your VCR. The DVD image could be distorted by the copy protection system.
Video connection
Connect the VIDEO OUT jack from the
unit
to the
VIDEO IN jack on the TV using the video cable supplied

Component Video connection

• If your television is a high-definition or “digital ready” television, you may take advantage of this

PREPARATION
Connecting to Antenna
Connect the supplied FM/AM antennas to listen to the radio.
• Connect the AM loop antenna to the AM antenna connector.
• Connect the FM wire antenna to the FM antenna connector.

• To prevent noise pickup, keep the AM loop antenna away from the unit and other component.
• Be sure to fully extend the FM wire antenna.
• After connecting the FM wire antenna, keep it as horizontal as possible.
Connecting to Auxiliary Equipment
You can use VCR or other unit connected to the AUX connector.

USB Function
You can enjoy the media files such as tunes (MP3/WMA) saved in an MP3 player or USB memory by connecting the storage device to the USB port of this unit.
To Remove the USB from the unit
1. Choose the other functions except USB function in order to remove the USB.
2. Remove the USB from the unit.

Do not extract the USB device in operating.
• Music files (MP3/WMA),Image Files (JPEG) and
Video Files can be played.
• A back up demands to prevent a data damage.
• If you use a USB extension cable or USB hub, the
USB device might not be recognized.
• A device using NTFS file system is not supported.
(Only FAT (16/32) file system is supported.)
• The USB function of this unit does not support all
USB devices.
• Digital camera and mobile phone are not supported.
• This unit is not supported when the total number of
files is 1000 or more..

1. Devices which require additional program installa­tion when you have connected it to a computer, are not supported.
2. MP3 Player : Flash type MP3 player. T
he MP3 player requiring installation of a driver is
not supported.

• Be sure to match the speaker cable to the appropriate terminal on the components: + to + and – to –. If the
cables are reversed, the sound will be distorted and will lack base.
• If you use front speakers with low maximum input rating, adjust the volume carefully to avoid excessive output on
the speakers.
• Connect the Front Left/Right speaker correctly. If it is reversed, the sound may be distorted.
Speaker System Connection
Connect the speakers using the supplied speaker cables by matching the colors of the terminals and those of the cords. To obtain the best possible surround sound, adjust the speaker parameters (distance, level, etc.).

Volume Adjustment
• Turn VOLUME knob clockwise to increase the sound level, or counterclockwise to decrease it.
• Press VOLUME + to increase the sound level, or use VOLUME - to decrease it on the remote control.
MUTE
Press MUTE to turn off the sound, press again to restore.
“ ” indicator flashes in the display window.
Headphone Jack
Connect a stereo headphone plug ( 3.5mm) into the headphone jack. The speakers are automatically disabled when you plug in headphones (not supplied).
EQUALIZER Effect
You can choose 7 fixed sound impressions and adjust the BASS, MIDDLE and TREBLE.
- You can select a desired sound mode by using EQ.
button on the front panel or the remote control. When you want to change a sound mode press the EQ. button repeatedly within 3 seconds.
Each time you press the button the setting changes in the display window as shown below.
NORMAL USER EQ POP CLASSIC ROCK DRAMA JAZZ NORMAL... You can set the BASS, MIDDLE and TREBLE on the USER EQ mode.
1.Select the USER EQ mode by using EQ. button.
“USER EQ” will be displayed in the display window.
2.Press the SET/CD[[button on the front panel when “USER EQ” is displayed in the display window. “BASS 0” will be displayed in the display window.
3.Select the BASS, MIDDLE or TREBLE you want by pressing the PRESET (-/+) buttons on the front panel.
4.Press the TUNING (-/+) buttons on the front panel to set the sound level you want. (MIN, -4 ~ +4, MAX steps)
5.Repeat the 3-4 steps as above.
6.When the sound level is completed, press the the SET/CD[[button on the front panel.
XDSS (Extreme Dynamic Sound System)
Press XDSS plus to reinforce treble, bass and the sur- round effect. The “XDSS ON” or “NORMAL” indicator lights.

This function optimizes for compressed MP3 files. It

Sleep Timer Function
When the sleep timer is set, the unit automatically turns off after the specified time has elapsed.

To specify the time delay before the power is turned off, press SLEEP.
In the display window you can see SLEEP 180 for about 5 seconds. This means that the system turns off automatically after 180 minutes.

To check the remaining time until the power is turned off.
While the sleep function is active press SLEEP briefly. The time remaining until the unit turns off is
displayed for about 5 seconds.

To cancel Sleep Timer setting
If you wish to stop the function, press the SLEEP button repeatedly until “SLEEP 10 ” appears, and then press SLEEP once again after “SLEEP 10 ” shows on the display.
Using Microphone (OPTIONAL)
You can sing to a music source by connecting a microphone to the unit.

• When not using the microphone, set the MIC VOL.
volume knob to minimum or turn off the MICs and remove the microphone from the MIC Jacks.
• If the microphone is set too near the speaker, a howl­ing sound may be produced. In this case, move the microphone away from the speaker or decrease the sound level by using the MIC VOL. volume control.
• If sound through the microphone is extremely loud, it may be distorted. In this case, turn the MIC VOL. vol­ume control toward minimum.
To Adjust ECHO Volume
You can give an echo effect to the sound from the microphones.
Press ECHO VOL. ( / ) on the remote control to increase the echo volume or decrease it. (MIN,1 - 14, MAX steps)
DIMMER
This function dims the LED (Light-emitting diode) of front panel by half in power-on status.
Press DIMMER once. The LED (Light-emitting diode) of front panel is turned off and the display window will be darken by half.To cancel it, press DIMMER again.

With the TIMER function you can have the radio recep­tion, CD play, USB play and TAPE play turned on and off at the desired time.

TV Aspect
4:3 – Select when a standard 4:3 TV is connected. 16:9 – Select when a 16:9 wide TV is connected.
Display Mode
The display Mode setting works only when the TV Aspect mode is set to “4:3”.
Letterbox – Displays a wide picture with bands on the upper and lower portions of the screen.
Panscan – Automatically displays the wide picture on the entire screen and cuts off the portions that do not fit.
Progressive Scan
Progressive Scan Video provides the highest quality pic­tures with less flickering.
When you are using the COMPONENT VIDEO OUT jacks, but are connecting the unit to a standard (analog) television, set Progressive Scan to Off. If you are using the Component Video jacks for connection to a TV or monitor that is compatible with a progressive scan signal, set Progressive Scan to On.
To Turn ON progressive scan:
Connect component out of the unit to the input of your monitor/television, set your television or monitor to Component Input.

Once the setting for progressive scan output is entered, an image will only be visible on a progressive scan compatible TV or monitor. The video output will be restored to the standard set­ting, and a picture will once again be visible on a con­ventional analog TV or monitor.

AUDIO
Each DVD disc has a variety of audio output options. Set the unit’s AUDIO options according to the type of audio system you use.
Dynamic Range Control (DRC)
With the DVD*1format, you can hear a program’s soundtrack in the most accurate and realistic presenta­tion, thanks to digital audio technology. However, you may wish to compress the dynamic range of the audio output (the difference between the loudest sounds and the quietest ones). Then, you may listen to a movie at a lower volume without losing clarity of sound. Set DRC to On for this effect. *1: Dolby Digital only
Vocal
Set Vocal to On only when a multi-channel karaoke DVD is playing. The karaoke channels on the disc will mix into normal stereo sound.
LOCK (Parental Control)
Rating
Blocks playback of rated DVDs based on their contents. Not all discs are rated.
1 Select “Rating” on the LOCK menu then press . 2 To access the LOCK options, you must input the
password you have created. If you have not yet entered password, you are prompted to do so. Input a password and press SELECT/ENTER. Enter it again and press SELECT/ENTER. to verify. If you make a mistake before pressing SELECT/ENTER, press CLEAR.
3 Select a rating from 1 to 8 using the / buttons.
Rating 1-8: Rating one (1) has the most restrictions and rating eight (8) is the least restrictive. Unlock: If you select unlock, parental control is not active and the disc plays in full.
4 Press SELECT/ENTER to confirm your rating selec-
tion, then press SETUP to exit the menu.
Password
You can enter or change password. 1 Select Password on the LOCK menu and then press
.
2 Follow the step 2 as shown above (Rating).
To change the password, press SELECT/ENTER when the “Change” option is highlighted. Input a password and press SELECT/ENTER. Enter it again and press SELECT/ENTER to verify.
3 Press SETUP to exit the menu.
If you forget your password
If you forget your password, you can clear it using the following steps:
1 Press SETUP to display the Setup menu. 2 Input the 6-digit number “210499” and press
SELECT/ENTER. The password is cleared.
Area Code
Enter the code of the area whose standards were used to rate the DVD video disc, based on the list on the page 30.

Time Search
To start playing at any chosen time on the disc:
1. Press DISPLAY during playback.
2. Press / to select the time clock icon and “--:--:--” appears.
3. Input the required start time in hours, minutes, and seconds from left to right. If you enter the wrong numbers, press CLEAR to remove the numbers you entered. Then input the correct numbers.
4. Press SELECT/ENTER to confirm. Playback starts from the selected time.
Marker Search
To enter a Marker
You can start playback from up to nine memorized points. To enter a marker, press MARKER at the desired point on the disc. The Marker icon appears on the TV screen briefly. Repeat to enter up to nine markers.
To Recall or Clear a Marked Scene
1. During disc playback, press SEARCH. The marker search menu appears on the screen.
2. Within 10 seconds, press / to select a marker number that you want to recall or clear.
3. Press SELECT/ENTER and playback starts from the marked scene. Or press CLEAR and the marker number is erased from the list.
4. You can play any marker by inputting its number on the marker search menu.
Screen Saver
The screen saver appears when you leave the unit in Stop mode for about five minutes.
1.5 speed playback
You can quickly enjoy a music and movie. The 1.5 speed allows you to watch the pictures and lis­ten to the sound quicker than playing at a normal speed on the disc.

Last Scene Memory

Camera Angle

Playing an Audio CD or MP3/WMA file
This unit can play Audio CDs or MP3/WMA files.
MP3/ WMA/ Audio CD
Once you insert an MP3/WMA files recording media Audio CD, a menu appears on the TV screen and
display window. Press / to select a track/file and then press PLAY
(BB) or SELECT/ ENTER, and playback starts. You can use variable playback functions. Refer to the page 17.
ID3 TAG
When playing a file containing information such as track titles, you can see the information by pressing DISPLAY repeatedly. The information [ Folder and file name, Song, Artist, Album, Genre,Comment,Time information] of the MP3/WMA file will be shown in the display window and TV screen To move next or previous files press the SKIP(./>)button.

Programmed Playback
The program function enables you to store your favorite tracks from any disc in the unit memory. A program can contain 300 tracks.

5. To resume normal playback from programmed play­back, select a track of AUDIO CD (or MP3/WMA) list and then press PLAY (BB).
Repeat Programmed Tracks
1. Press REPEAT when playing a disc. The repeat icon appears.
2. Press REPEAT to select a desired repeat mode.
• TRACK: repeats the current track
• ALL: repeats all the tracks on a programmed list.
• Off(No display): does not play repeatedly.
Erasing a Track from “Program” List
1. Use / to select the track that you wish to erase from the Program list.
2. Press CLEAR. Alternatively, select “ (Delete)” icon then press SELECT/ ENTER to place the selected track on the Program list. Repeat to erase additional tracks on the list.

MP3 / WMA disc compatibility with this player is limited as follows:
• Sampling frequency: within 32 - 48 kHz (MP3), within 24 - 48kHz (WMA)
• Bit rate: within 32 - 320kbps (MP3), 40 - 192kbps (WMA)
• The unit cannot read an MP3/WMA file that has a file extension other than “.mp3” / “.wma”.
• CD-R physical format should be ISO 9660
• If you record MP3 / WMA files using software that cannot create a file system (eg. Direct-CD) it is impossible to playback MP3 / WMA files.We recommend that you use Easy-CD Creator, which creates an ISO 9660 file system.
• File names should have a maximum of 8 letters and must incorporate an .mp3 or .wma extension.
• They should not contain special letters such as / ? * : “ < > l etc.
• The total number of files on the disc should be less than
999.
This unit requires discs and recordings to meet certain tech­nical standards in order to achieve optimal playback quality. Pre-recorded DVDs are automatically set to these standards. There are many different types of recordable disc formats (including CD-R containing MP3 or WMA files) and these require certain pre-existing conditions (see above) to ensure compatible playback.
Customers should note that permission is required in order to download MP3 / WMA files and music from the Internet. Our company has no right to grant such per­mission. Permission should always be sought from the copyright owner.

JPEG disc compatibility with this player is limited as follows:
• Depending upon the size and number of JPEG files, it could take a long time for the unit to read the disc’s contents. If you don’t see an on-screen dis­play after several minutes, some of the files may be too large — reduce the resolution of the JPEG files to less than 2760 x 2048 pixels and burn another disc.
• The total number of files and folders on the disc should be less than 999.
• Some discs may be incompatible due to a different recording format or the condition of disc.
• Ensure that all the selected files have the “.jpg” extensions when copying into the CD layout.
• If the files have “.jpe” or “.jpeg” extensions, please rename them as “.jpg” file.
• File names without “.jpg” extension will not be able to be read by this unit. Even though the files are shown as JPEG image files in Windows Explorer

RDS Function : OPTIONAL
About RDS : OPTIONAL
This unit is equipped with RDS (Radio Data System), which brings a wide range of information from FM radio. RDS is a system for transmitting station call signs or network information, a description of station programme type text message about the station or specifics of musical selection and the correct time.
RDS Tuning : OPTIONAL
When a FM station containing RDS data is tuned in, the unit will automatically display the station’s call sign and the RDS indicator will light in the Display Window as well as indicators for the programme type recognition (PTY), Radio Text (RT), Clock Time (CT) and RDS services programme (PS) if transmitted by the station.
RDS Display Options : OPTIONAL
The RDS system is capable of transmitting a wide variety of information in addition to the initial call sign that appears when a station is first tuned. In normal RDS operation the display will indicate the station name, broadcast network or call letters. Pressing RDS on the front panel enables you to cycle through the various data types in the sequence:

Programme Search (PTY)
: OPTIONAL
A major benefit of RDS is its ability to encode broad­casts with Programme Type (PTY) codes that indicate the type of material being broadcast. The following list shows the abbreviations used to indicate each PTY along with an explanation of the PTY.
You may search for a specific Programme Type (PTY) by following these steps:

Key Control
You can change the key to suit your vocal range. You can adjust the key to the 13 steps (6 steps higher, 6steps lower and the original key).
- The setting appears on the screen.
Press KEY CONTROL (b/#) repeatedly on the remote control to find the key that suits your vocal range.
• To flatten the key one by one, press the KEY CONTROL (b) repeatedly during playback.
• To sharp the key one by one, press the KEY CONTROL (#) repeatedly during playback.
• To return to the original key, press the KEY CON­TROL (b/#) repeatedly to appear the original key.
To Adjust ECHO Volume
You can give an echo effect to the sound from the microphones.
Press the ECHO VOL. ( / ) on the remote control to increase the echo volume or decrease it. (MIN,1 - 14, MAX steps)
Reserving the Songs
When you want to make a reservation of next melody, you can enjoy the most 8 melodies reservation Without waiting.

Shadow Function
If Video CD caption and the song’s subtitle are mixed up, the song’s subtitle may be invisible. In this case, to highlight the song’s subtitle, press SHADOW.
- It will be highlighted by background shadow image.
Screen Change Function
This function is used when you want to change the current screen during playing karaoke disc.
Press D.SKIP button during playing karaoke disc.
IIt plays a screen with existing another disc.

DVDVCD
You can play KARAOKE (singing along) with karaoke disc by connecting a microphone to the unit. You can enjoy KARAOKE with a stereo-recorded disc, even if it is a non-karaoke disc, by reducing the singer’s voice.

operates. The fanfare sound comes out after singing fin­ished. To cancel it, select the “Off”.

“On”: When singing by selection of melody, song lyric
appears on the TV screen.
To cancel it, select the “Off”.
CHORUS ON/OFF (CORO ON/OFF)
“On”: When singing by selection of melody, song
chorus is heard with a sound. To cancel it, select the “Off”.

Troubleshooting
Check the following guide for the possible cause of a problem before contacting service.
Symptom
No power.
The power is on, but the unit does not work.
No picture.
There is no sound or only a very low-level sound is heard.
The playback picture is poor. The unit does not start
playback.
Severe hum or noise is heard.
Radio stations cannot be tuned in.
The remote control does not work properly.
Cause
• The power cord is disconnected.
• No disc is inserted.
• The TV is not set to receive DVD signal out­put.
• The video cable is not connected securely.
• The connected TV power is turned off.
• The equipment connected with the audio cable is not set to receive DVD signal output.
• The audio cables are not connected securely

• The power of the equipment connected with the audio cable is turned off.
• The audio connecting cord is damaged.
• The disc is dirty.
• No disc is inserted.
• An unplayable disc is inserted.
• The disc is placed upside down.
• The disc is not placed within the guide.

• A menu is on the TV screen.
• The Rating level is set.
• The plugs and jacks are dirty.

• The speakers and components are connected poorly.
• The unit is located with too close to the TV.
• The antenna is positioned or connected poorly.
• The signal strength of the stations is too weak (when tuning in with automatic tuning).
• No stations have been preset or preset sta­tions have been cleared (when tuning by scanning preset stations).
• The remote control is not pointed at the remote sensor of the unit.
• The remote control is too far from the unit.
• There is an obstacle in the path of the remote control and the unit.
• The batteries in the remote control are exhausted.
Correction
• Plug the power cord into the wall outlet securely.
• Insert a disc. (Check that the DVD or, audio CD indicator in the DVD display is lit.)
• Select the appropriate video input mode on the TV so the picture from the unit appears on the TV screen.
• Connect the video cable into the jacks securely.
• Turn on the TV.
• Select the correct input mode of the audio so you can listen to the sound from the unit.
• Connect the audio cable into the jacks securely.
• Turn on the equipment connected with the audio cable.
• Replace it with new one.
• Clean the disc.
• Insert a disc. (Check that the DVD, or audio CD indicator in the DVD display is lit.)
• Insert a playable disc. (Check the disc type, color system and Regional code.)
• Place the disc with the playback side down.
• Place the disc on the disc tray correctly inside the guide.
• Clean the disc.
• Press the SETUP button to turn off the menu screen.
• Cancel the Rating function or change the rat­ing level.
• Wipe them with a cloth slightly moistened with alcohol.
• Clean the disc.
• Connect the speakers and components securely.
• Move your TV away from the audio compo­nents.
• Connect the antenna securely.
• Adjust the antennas and connect an external antenna if necessary.
• Tune in the station manually.
• Preset the stations.
• Point the remote control at the remote sensor of the unit.
• Operate the remote control within about 23 ft (7 m).
• Remove the obstacle.
• Replace the batteries with new ones.
