Welcome to Document Distributor, a suite of scanning and document distribution tools. The
Document Distributor software, combined with the Lexmark™ Multifunction Printer (MFP),
provides solutions for both easy and complex document distribution tasks facing your
organization.

Let’s say you run a manufacturing company. You receive an invoice for a shipment of raw
materials and have to get copies of the invoice (in different formats) to different departments
in your organization. You are faced with a multistep work flow that must be repeated each
time.
Old method: complex, time-consuming work flow
1 Scan the invoice.
2 Save the scanned image as a TIFF.
3 Attach the TIFF to an e-mail and send it to the Billing department.
4 Create a PDF from the scan.
5 Insert the file into your company’s database.
6 Create a JPEG format of the scan.
7 Attach the JPEG to an e-mail and send it to Marketing.

New method: simplified, time-saving work flow
Now, with the Document Distributor software, you can set up the following simplified work flow
process:
Administrator
1 Use the ScriptWizard (available in the Document Server Admin) to create a script that
encompasses all the steps used in the work flow. Combine this script with your scan
settings and create a profile.
2 Send the profile to one or more conveniently located Lexmark MFPs for your end
users.
End users
Walk up to the Lexmark MFP configured with your custom profile, place the document
on the scanner, select the profile, and press Go. The script performs the actions and
the document goes to Billing, Marketing and the database in the correct formats.
If the work flow changes, the administrator simply makes the changes to the script and sends
the new profile to the MFP. This frees up the end user to concentrate on other tasks, while the
work flow is managed from a central location.

The Lexmark Document Distributor CD includes these software tools:
Server:
• Lexmark Document Server—Performs scripted tasks on a scanned image and then
sends the result to various output locations. Install this software on a server machine.
Client:
• Lexmark Document Server Admin—Manages multiple Document Servers and
Lexmark MFPs, and lets you create scripts (using the ScriptWizard) and profiles.
Install this tool on a client or server machine.
• Print‘N’Send—Print to the Document Server from applications on your computer. A
print driver (configured by the administrator) converts the file format to a TIFF image
and then sends the image to the Document Server.
• Select‘N’Send—Right-click on a file in Windows Explorer and send to the Document
Server.
• FastMap—A utility to create zones on your document for reading text, check boxes,
and bar codes.
