For best print quality , make sure you align the image transfer unit after replacement or if colors print too
lightly.
To align the image transfer unit:
1On the printer operator panel, press and hold Select and Return while turning the printer on.
2When Performing Self Test appears, release the buttons.
3When Config Menu appears, press Menu until you see ITU Alignment, and then press
Select.
A test page prints.
4Look at the test page and select a number value f or each of the twelve settings where the color
is most intense. Select a value in the range of -10 to +10 to the nearest .5 increment. For
example, you may find for the Test A alignment that your color is most intense at the 4.5 value.
It is helpful to write all twelve alignment values in the lines provided on the test page before
going on to step e. You must select a value for all twelve settings.
5When you see Test A Alignment, press Menu until you find the number value you want to
use, and then press
displays.
Select. A Saved message briefly appears and then the next test alignment
6After you have completed all twelve settings, Config Menu appears. Press Menu until you see
Exit Config Menu, and then press Select.
The printer returns to the Ready state.

Printer Usage
Purpose:
To determine the behavior of the image transfer unit during printing.
Values:
Max SpeedThe image transfer unit is engaged throughout the print job.
Max Yield*The image transf er unit positio n is engaged based on page content. Thi s may
extend the life of certain print supplies.
Toner Alarm
Purpose:
To specify how the printer responds when it is low on toner.
Values:
OffAn error message is displayed until someone replaces the ton er cartridge. If an
Auto Continue value is selected from the Setup Menu, the printer resumes printing
after the specifi ed ti m eout value .
Single*Printer stops printing, displays an error message, and sounds three quick beeps.

seconds until th e toner cartridge is re placed.

Use the Parallel Menu to change printer settings affecting jobs sent to the printer through a parallel
port (either Std Parallel or Parallel Opt <x>).

MAC Binary PS
Purpose:
To configure the printer to process Macintosh binar y PostScript print jobs.
Values:
OnPrinter processes raw binary PostScript print jobs from comput ers using the Macintosh
operating syst em .
Note: This setting often causes Windows print jobs to fail.
OffPrinter filters P ostScript print jobs usi ng standard protocol.
Auto*Printer processes print jobs from computers using either Windows or Macintosh operating
systems.

Purpose:
To specify the kind of paper associated with each of the Custom Types available in the Paper Type
menu item.

Paper Loading
Purpose:
To properly handle preprinted paper load ed in a tray, whether the job is a duplexed job or a
single-sided job.
DuplexNotifies the printer that the specified pap er type is loaded properly for dup lex printing. If
the printer receives a single-si ded job using that paper type, the printer inserts blan k
pages as necessa ry to print t he job properly on preprinted forms. This setting m ay slow
single-sided printing.
Off*Printer assumes preprint ed materi al is loaded for single-sided printing. Duplex ed jobs
may not print properly.
Note: If a user-defined name is available, it is displayed instead of Custom <x> Loading.
The name is truncated to 14 characters.

Purpose:
To identify the texture of the paper loaded in a specific source and to ensure that characters print
clearly.

Infrared Menu
Use the Infrared Menu to change printer settings affecting jobs sent to the printer through an infrared
port.
Note: Values marked by an asterisk (*) are the factory default settings.
Infrared Buffer
Purpose:
To configure the size of the infrared input buffer.
Values:
DisabledDisables job buf f ering . Any jobs already b uff e red on the disk are printe d befo re
normal processing of incom ing jobs resumes.
Auto*Printer automatical ly calculates the Inf rared Buffer si ze (recommended
setting).
36K to maximum
size allowed
User specifies the Infrared Buffer size. The maximum size setting depends on
the amount of memory in your printer, the size of the other link buffers, and
whether Resource Save is set to On or Off. To maximize the range for the
Infrared Buffer size, disable or reduce the size of the parallel, serial, network,
LocalTalk, and USB buffers.
Note: Changing the Infrared Buffer menu item automatically resets the printer.
