Thegraphicscardisdesignedforprofessionalgraphicsapplications,suchascomputer-aideddesign(CAD) applications,DigitalContentCreation(DCC)applications,andScienticVisualizationapplications.

Chapter2.Usingthegraphicscard

Thischaptercontainsinstructionsforinstallingthegraphicscard.Italsoincludesinstructionsforinstalling anduninstallingthedevicedriver.

Beforeyoubegin

Beforeyouinstallthegraphicscard,takethefollowingprecautionstopreventstaticelectricityfrom damagingelectronicparts:
•Beforetouchinganyelectronicparts,drainthestaticelectricityfromyourbody.Y oucandothisby touchingthemetalframeofyourcomputer.
•Donotremovethegraphicscardfromtheantistaticshippingcontaineruntilyouarereadytoinstallit. Whenyouremovethegraphicscardfromyourcomputer,placeitinitsoriginalcontainer.
•Whenhandlingthegraphicscard,holditbyitsedges,andavoidtouchingitscircuitry.
Note:ChecktheappropriatesupportWebsitesforthelatestupdatesforyourbasicinput/outputsystem (BIOS)code,utilityprograms,devicedrivers,andothersoftwareapplications.Followtheinstructions providedbyyourServiceProvidertodownloadandinstallupdates.

Installingthegraphicscard

Toinstallthegraphicscard,dothefollowing:
1.Prepareyourcomputerforgraphicscardinstallationbydoingthefollowing: a.Turnoffallattacheddevicesandthenturnoffthecomputer. b.Unplugallcordsandpowercablesfromthecomputerandallattacheddevices. c.Removethecomputercover.Forinstructionsonhowtoremovethecover,refertotheuserguide
thatcomeswithyourcomputer.
2.ChooseaPCIExpressx16expansionslot.
3.Removetheexpansionslotcoverfortheselectedexpansionslot.Savethescrewifthereisonetouse withthemountingbracketofthegraphicscard.
Attention:Insertingagraphicscardintoanincorrecttypeofexpansionslotmightdamageyourcard, yourcomputer,orboth.Toidentifythelocationofeachtypeofexpansionslotinyourcomputer,referto theuserguidethatcomeswithyourcomputer.
4.Positionthegraphicscardovertheselectedexpansionslot.Firmlyandevenlypushthegraphics cardinuntilitisfullyseatedintheslot.
Notes:
•Donotinserttheplastictabnexttotheconnectorpinsintotheexpansionslot.
•Ifthegraphicscardhasanauxiliarypowerconnector,attachittothesystempowersupply.
5.Tightenthescrewifnecessarytosecurethemountingbracketofthegraphicscardinplace.
6.Reinstallthecomputercover.
7.Reattachthecords,powercables,andexternaldevicestothecomputer.

Note:Ifagraphicscarddriverisinstalledonthecomputer,uninstallthegraphicscarddriverbeforeinstalling
anewone.
ToinstallthedevicedriverontheWindowsXP,WindowsVista,Windows7,orWindows8operatingsystem, dothefollowing:
FortheWindowsXP ,WindowsVista,orWindows7operatingsystem:
1.Saveanyopendocumentsandexitallapplications.
2.InserttheSoftwareandUserGuideDiscintotheopticaldrive.Thediscstartsautomatically.Ifthedisc doesnotstartautomatically,dooneofthefollowing:
•Iftheautoplaywindowopens,clickRunViewHtml.exe.
•Iftheautoplaywindowdoesnotopen,gointoMyComputerorComputer,andthendouble-click
ViewHtml.exeintherootdirectoryofthedisc.
3.Selectyourlanguage.
4.ClickSoftwareintheleftpaneofthewindow.
5.Followtheinstructionsonthescreentoinstallthedevicedriver.
FortheWindows8operatingsystem:
1.Saveanyopendocumentsandexitallapplications.
2.InserttheSoftwareandUserGuideDiscintotheopticaldrive.Thediscstartsautomatically.Ifthedisc doesnotstartautomatically,dooneofthefollowing:
•Iftheautoplaywindowopens,clickRunViewHtml.exe.
•Iftheautoplaywindowdoesnotopen,movethecursortothebottom-rightcornerofthescreento
displaythecharms,andclickSearchComputer.Thendouble-clicktheCD/DVDdriveicon.
3.Selectyourlanguage.
4.ClickSoftwareintheleftpaneofthewindow.
5.Followtheinstructionsonthescreentoinstallthedevicedriver.

UninstallingthedevicedriverfromWindowsoperatingsystems

TouninstallthedevicedriverfromtheWindowsXP,WindowsVista,Windows7,orWindows8operating system,dothefollowing:
FortheWindowsXPoperatingsystem:
1.ClickStartControlPanelorStartSettingsControlPanel.
2.DependingonyourControlPanelmode,clickordouble-clickAddorRemovePrograms.
3.ClicktheNVIDIAdriver,andthenclickRemove.
4.Followtheinstructionsonthescreen.
FortheWindowsVistaorWindows7operatingsystem:
1.ClickStartControlPanelorStartSettingsControlPanel.
2.DependingonyourControlPanelmode,dooneofthefollowing:
•ClicktheUninstallaprogramoptionundertheProgramsmenu.
•ClickProgramsandFeatures.

3.SelecttheNVIDIAdriverandthenright-clickyourmouse.TheUninstall/Changeoptionisdisplayed.

FortheWindows8operatingsystem:
•FromtheStartscreen
1.Movethecursortothebottomrightcornerofthescreentodisplaythecharms,andthenclick SearchControlPanel.
2.DependingonyourControlPanelmode,dooneofthefollowing:
–ClicktheUninstallaprogramoptionundertheProgramsmenu. –ClickProgramsandFeatures.
3.SelecttheNVIDIAdriverandthenright-clickyourmouse.TheUninstall/Changeoptionisdisplayed.
4.ClickUninstall/Change.
5.Followtheinstructionsonthescreen.
•Fromthedesktop
1.Right-clickanywhereonthedesktop,andthenclickPersonalize.ThePersonalizationwindowis displayed.
2.ClickControlPanelHomeinthetop-leftarea.
3.DependingonyourControlPanelmode,dooneofthefollowing:
–ClicktheUninstallaprogramoptionundertheProgramsmenu. –ClickProgramsandFeatures.
4.SelecttheNVIDIAdriverandthenright-clickyourmouse.TheUninstall/Changeoptionisdisplayed.
5.ClickUninstall/Change.
6.Followtheinstructionsonthescreen.

InstallingthedevicedriverontheLinuxoperatingsystem

ThistopicappliestothegraphicscardsthatsupporttheLinuxoperatingsystem.
Notes:
•Youmustloginwithsuperuserprivileges(rootuser)tosuccessfullyinstalltheNVIDIAProprietaryLinux Driver.
•Beforeinstallingthedevicedriver,makesurethattheCDorDVDdrivehasbeenmountedonyour computer.
ToinstallthedevicedriverontheLinuxoperatingsystem,dothefollowing:
1.Runtheterminal.Theterminalwindowopens.
2.InserttheSoftwareandUserGuideDisc.
3.Typecdxxx/drivers/LinuxandpressEntertonavigatetothe/driver/LinuxfolderonyourCDorDVD drive(wherexxxrepresentsthedirectorythatyourCDorDVDdriveismountedin).
4.TypeGraphics_card_Linux.runandpressEnter.
5.WhentheLicenseAgreementwindowopens,readtheLicenseAgreementandclickIAgreetocontinue theinstallation.
6.Followtheinstructionsonyourcomputerscreentocompletethedevicedriverinstallation.
