Plugsandoutlets

Masterharddiskpassword Themasterharddiskpasswordalsorequiresauserharddiskpassword.Themasterharddiskpassword
isusuallysetandusedbyasystemadministrator.Itenablestheadministratortoaccessanysolid-state driveinasystemlikeamasterkey.Theadministratorsetsthemasterpassword;thenassignsauser passwordforeachcomputerinthenetwork.Theusercanthenchangetheuserpasswordasdesired,but theadministratorstillcangetaccessbyusingthemasterpassword.

•Recordyourpasswordandstoreitinasafeplace.Ifyouforgettheuserharddiskpassword,orboth userandmasterharddiskpasswords,Lenovocannotresetyourpasswordsorrecoverdatafromthe solid-statedrive.YoumusttakeyourcomputertoaLenovoreselleroramarketingrepresentativetohave thedrivereplaced.Proofofpurchaseisrequired,andafeewillbechargedforpartsandservice.

Someofthedatastoredonthestoragedevicesmightbesensitive.Handingyourcomputerovertosomeone elsewithoutdeletingtheloadedsoftware,suchasoperatingsystemsandapplicationsoftware,mighteven violatelicenseagreements.Besuretodeletedatastoredonthestoragedevicesbeforeyoudisposeof,sell, orhandoveryourcomputer.
Youcanusethefollowingmethodstodeletedatafromthestoragedevices:
•MovethedatatotheRecycleBin,andthenemptytheRecycleBin.
•Deletethedata.
•Formatyourstoragedevices,usingthesoftwareforinitializingit.
•UsetherecoveryprogramprovidedbyLenovotobringthestoragedevicesbacktothefactorydefault settings.
Theseoperations,however,onlychangethefilelocationofthedata;theydonotdeletethedataitself.In otherwords,thedataretrievalprocessingisdisabledunderanoperatingsystemsuchasWindows.The dataisstillthere,eventhoughitseemstobelost.Thus,itissometimespossibletoreadthedatabyuseof specialsoftwarefordatarecovery.Thereisariskthatpeopleofbadfaithmightreadandmisusethecritical dataonstoragedrivesforunexpectedpurposes.
Topreventleakageofdata,itisimportantthatyoudeleteallthedatafromthestoragedeviceswhen youdisposeof,sell,orhandoveryourcomputer.Y oucandestroythedataphysicallybysmashingthe storagedeviceswithahammer,ormagneticallybymeansofstrongmagneticpower,thusmakingthedata unreadable.Butitisrecommendedthatyouusethesoftware(payware)orservice(payservice)developed forthatpurpose.Theprocessmighttakeseveralhours.
Fordisposingofdataonthesolid-statedrive,LenovoprovidestheDriveEraseUtilityforResettingthe CryptographicKeyandErasingtheSolidStateDrivetool.
IfanEncryptionsolid-statedriveissupportedandinstalledinyourcomputer,youcanlogicallydispose ofallthedataonthedriveinashorttimebyerasingthecryptographickey.Thedataencrypted withtheoldkeyisnotphysicallyerasedbutremainsonthedrive;however,itcannotbedecrypted withouttheoldkey.ThisfeatureisalsoavailablewiththeDriveEraseUtilityforResettingthe CryptographicKeyandErasingtheSolidStateDrivetool.
Usingfirewalls
Ifyoursystemispreinstalledwithafirewallprogram,itprotectsagainstcomputerInternetsecuritythreats, unauthorizedaccesses,intrusions,andInternetattacks.Italsoprotectsyourprivacy.
