TheLenovo asmartcardreaderandtheThinkVantage
®
USBSmartcardKeyboard(hereaftercalledthekeyboard)isafull-sizedkeyboardequippedwith
®
buttontoenhanceyourcomputingsecurityandconvenience.
Thekeyboardenablesauthorizedusers’singlelogintothecomputerandpreventsunauthorizedaccess tothenetworkofanorganization.Typically,theuser-accessverificationofthekeyboardsecuresthe environmentfortransactionsperformedonbothpublicandprivatenetworks.TheThinkVantagebuttonon thekeyboardprovidesquickaccesstosomeoftheprogramsinstalledonyourcomputerortheWindows SystemInformationwindow.

2NumericLockLED
WhentheLEDison,thenumerickeypadonthekeyboardisenabled.WhentheLEDisoff,thecursor controlonthenumerickeypadisenabled.PresstheNumericLockkeytoswitchbackandforthbetween thesetwomodes.
3CapsLockLED
WhentheLEDison,theCapsLockmodeisenabled.Inthismode,youcantypeallalphabeticcharacters (A-Z)inuppercasetextdirectly.WhentheLEDisoff,theCapsLockmodeisdisabled.Toenableordisable theCapsLockmode,presstheCapsLockkey.
4ScrollLockLED
WhentheLEDison,theScrollLockmodeisenabled.Thearrowkeyscanbeusedasscreen-scrollfunction keysandthecursorcannotbemovedwiththearrowkeys.Thefunctionisonlyavailableforcertain applicationprograms.WhentheScrollLockLEDisoff,thearrowkeyscanbeusedforcursorcontrol,notas screen-scrollfunctionkeys.PresstheScrollLockkeytoswitchbackandforthbetweenthesetwomodes.
5SmartcardstatusLED
ThesmartcardstatusLEDisadual-colorLED,whichindicatestheworkingstatusofthesmartcardreader ingreenandamber.

6Smartcardreader
Thesmartcardreaderisacompact,lightweight,high-performancedevicethatenhancescomputerand networksecurity.Itsupportsmostmemorymodulesandmicroprocessorcards.
Thesmartcardreadersupportsthefollowing:
•Readingfromandwritingtoallmemoryandmicroprocessorsmartcards(T=0,T=1)thatconformto InternationalOrganizationforStandardization(ISO)7816-1,2,3,4standards
Note:Lenovodoesnotprovideasmartcardwiththisoption.
•Securepersonalidentificationnumber(PIN)entrymode(PINauthenticationwithouttransmittingthePIN tothehostcomputer)
•Userauthenticationthroughthird-partyapplications
•ThinkVantageClientSecuritySolution FormoreinformationaboutusingsmartcardswiththeThinkVantageClientSecuritySolutionprogram,

Cableslot
Thecableslotprovidesaconvenientwaytochangethelocationwherethecableleavesthekeyboard.You canroutethekeyboardcableintotheleftorrightslottoreducecableclutterandoptimizedeskspace.
Tiltfeet
Therearethreetiltfeetpositionsforsettingthekeyboardtoacomfortabledegree.Youcanplacethe keyboardatanangleoffourdegrees,sixdegrees,orninedegreesatyourpreference.

Thischapterprovidesinformationaboutinstallingthekeyboardandusingthesmartcardreader.

Installingthedevicedrivers

Beforeinstallingthekeyboard,youmustinstallthehotkeydriverandthesmart-card-readerdriver. Otherwise,youcannotusesomefunctionsofthekeyboard.Forexample,ifyouareusingaWindows XPoperatingsystem,youmustinstallthesmart-card-readerdrivertousethesmartcardreaderofthe keyboard;ifyouareusingaWindows7,Windows8,orWindows8.1operatingsystem,youmustinstallthe smart-card-readerdrivertousesomespecificfunctionslikethesecurePINentry.
Note:Ifthehotkeydriverandthesmart-card-readerdriverarealreadyinstalledonyourcomputer, uninstallthedriversbeforeyouinstallthenewones.See“Uninstallingthedevicedrivers”onpage6 moreinformation.
Toinstallthedevicedrivers,dothefollowing:
1.Gotohttp://www.lenovo.com/support/keyboards.
2.Locateanddownloadtheinstallationfiles.
3.Double-clickeachinstallationfile,andthenfollowtheinstructionsonthescreentocompletethe installation.

Thistopicprovidesinstructionsonhowtoinstallthekeyboardafteryouinstallthedrivers.
Toinstallthekeyboard,dothefollowing:
1.Adjustthetiltfeettosetthekeyboardnearyourcomputertoyourpreference.
2.Routethekeyboardcableintotherightorleftcableslotaccordingtoyourpreference.
3.ConnectthekeyboardcabletoanavailableUSBconnectoronthecomputer.Theoperatingsystemwill identifythekeyboardandthesmartcardreader.Then,thekeyboardisreadyforuse.

Uninstallingthedevicedrivers

Touninstallthehotkeydriverandthesmart-card-readerdriver,dothefollowing:
Note:Touninstallthekeyboardfromyourcomputer,itisrecommendedthatyouuninstallboththehotkey driverandthesmart-card-readerdriver.Then,restartthecomputertohavethenewchangestotakeeffect.
FortheWindowsXPoperatingsystem:
1.DependingonyourStartmenumode,clickStart➙ControlPanelorStart➙Settings➙Control Panel.
2.DependingonyourControlPanelmode,clickordouble-clickAddorRemovePrograms.
3.SelectLenovoUSBSmartcardKeyboardHotkeyDriver,andthenclickRemove.
4.Followtheinstructionsonthescreentouninstallthehotkeydriver.
5.IntheAddorRemoveProgramswindow,selectLenovoKeyboardSmartcardReader,andthen clickRemove.
6.Followtheinstructionsonthescreentouninstallthesmart-card-readerdriver.
7.Restartyourcomputer.
FortheWindows7operatingsystem:
1.DependingonyourStartmenumode,clickStart➙ControlPanelorStart➙Settings➙Control Panel.
2.DependingonyourControlPanelmode,dooneofthefollowing:
•ClicktheUninstallaprogramoptionundertheProgramsmenu.
•ClickProgramsandFeatures.
3.SelectLenovoUSBSmartcardKeyboardHotkeyDriver,andthenright-clickyourmouse.
4.ClickUninstall,andfollowtheinstructionsonthescreentouninstallthehotkeydriver.
5.IntheUninstallorchangeaprogramwindow,selectLenovoKeyboardSmartcardReader,and thenright-clickyourmouse.
6.ClickUninstall,andfollowtheinstructionsonthescreentouninstallthesmart-card-readerdriver.
7.Restartyourcomputer.
FortheWindows8operatingsystem:
1.GotoControlPanelbydoingoneofthefollowing:
•Fromthedesktop,movethepointertothetop-rightorbottom-rightcornerofthescreentodisplay
thecharms,andthenclickSettingsControlPanel.
•FromtheStartscreen,dothefollowing:
a.Movethepointertothetop-rightorbottom-rightcornerofthescreentodisplaythecharms. b.ClickSearch. c.OntheAppsscreen,scrolltotherightside,andclickControlPanelintheWindowsSystem
section.
2.DependingonyourControlPanelmode,dooneofthefollowing:
•ClicktheUninstallaprogramoptionundertheProgramsmenu.
•ClickProgramsandFeatures.
3.SelectLenovoUSBSmartcardKeyboardHotkeyDriverandthenright-clickyourmouse.The
Uninstalloptionisdisplayed.

7.Restartyourcomputer.
FortheWindows8.1operatingsystem:

Usingthesmartcardreader

Tousethesmartcardreaderofthekeyboard,insertasmartcardintothesmartcardreaderwiththe contactpadfacingup.ThesmartcardstatusLEDwillbeoningreenforawhile.Thenthesmartcard readerisreadyforuse.
