The Demineralizer Bottle provides all of the deionized water used in the
test. Read the Demineralizer Bottle instructions before proceeding.
USE OF THE OCTA-SLIDE VIEWER
The Octa-Slide Viewer should be held so
non-direct light enters through the back of the
comparator. With sample tube inserted at top,
slide the color bar through the viewer and match
with color standards.
PRO CE DURE
NOTE: It is suggested for best possible results to carry a reagent blank
through the procedure to compensate for any color which may develop
within the reagents. The reading from the reagent blank is subtracted
from the reading of the test sample.
1. Use the 1 mL pipet (0354) to add 1 mL of *Acid Extracting
Solution (6361) to a test tube (0701). Add deionized water to the
15 mL line.
2. Use the 1.0 g spoon (0697) to add 3 measures of soil.
3. Use the 0.5 mL pipet (0353) to add 0.5 mL of Charcoal
Suspension (5638). Cap vial and shake for 5 minutes.
4. Use the funnel (0459) and filter paper (0465) to filter solution.
Collect the soil filtrate from both tubes in one vial (0989).
5. Use the 1.0 mL pipet (0354) to add 1.0 mL of the soil filtrate to a
test tube (0106).
6. Dilute the filtrate to the 5 mL line with deionized water.
7. Use the 0.5 mL pipet (0353) to add 0.5 mL of *VM Phosphate
Reagent (4410). Cap tube and mix by inverting the tube several
times.
8. Wait for 5 minutes.
9. Use the plain pipet (0352) to add 2 drops of *Reducing Reagent
(6405). Cap and mix. Solution should turn blue in 10 seconds.
10. Insert test tube into the top of the Octa-Slide Viewer (1100). Slide
the Phosphorus Octa-Slide (3423) into the Viewer. Match sample
color to a color standard. Record as lb/acre Phosphorus.
