Please read the instructions in this booklet carefully as it contains important
information concerning the safety, the installation, the use and the maintenance of your applicance. Keep these instructions in a safe place.
The advantages at a glance
Cooker hoods
–
bring perfect results as they are installed directly above the cooking area,
–
remove odours without causing draughts,
–
prevent smells from the kitchen from penetrating into other rooms,
–
prevent greasy deposits on furniture,
–
provide additional lighting above the workplace and
–
provide ventilation independently of atmospheric variations in pressure.
General advice
Remember that the ventilation problem in the kitchen is often not solved merely by installing a cooker hood. For maximum effect and ventilation efficiency the cooker hood requires a sufficient supply of air from the correct sources.
A disappointing performance and the development of strong smells are almost always the result of planning errors or maloperation.
For example
–
Loud noises develop as a result of an insufficient supply of air.
Result: The revolutions of the ventilation motor increase, the air capacity decreases and the noises become louder.
–
Saturated filter mats.
Result: The air capacity of the cooker hood decreases and the fumes are insufficiently purified.
Example of how to use the cooker hood and the stove at the same
time in complete safety:
A control switch system at the window prevents the cooker hood from being
operated when the window is closed.
Safety instructions
Always disconnect the cooker hood from the electricity supply when cleaning the appliance or when carrying out maintenance or repair jobs. Either pull the plug out of the mains socket or turn off the main fuse!
The minimum distance between
the cooker hood and electric
cookers should be 450 mm, and
650 mm between cooker hood
and gas cookers.
Caution: Danger of Fire!
The plastic components used on the applicance are hardly inflammable.
They have self-extinguishing properties. All the same, be absolutely sure to
read through the following safety instructions to exclude any danger of fire.
The cooker hood must not be mounted above stoves fired by solid combustible materials.
Always keep an eye on deep-fat fryers when they are in operation. Oil
which ignites due to overheating can set the cooker hood on fire.
The fat filter must be cleaned regularly. A saturated fat filter is particularly susceptible to ignite if the cooker hood is mounted above a gas cooker.
Ignited rings on gas cookers and gas hobs must always be covered by a
saucepan or a frying pan.
Never flambé any dishes under the cooker hood.
Important notes concerning operation in
extraction mode
If a cooker hood is installed in extraction mode in a home heated by stove heating (gas, oil, coal or wood) or where a gas flow heater or water
heater is used or where there is an open fire etc., always consult your
local chimney sweep as this is the only person who is competent to reliably judge the local ventilation conditions. If in doubt and to be on the
safe side, only operate the cooker hood in recirculating mode.
When judging the ventilation conditions in the home it is always necessary to take the entire ventilation system into account. Only in the case of
cookers such as gas cookers and gas hobs is this rule not applicable.
In extraction mode the cooker hood extracts air from the room which the
stove needs for combustion. This means that more fresh air (supply air)
must always reach the kitchen than the cooker hood extracts. If this is
not the case, it can happen that the exhaust air from the stove (CO,
carbon monoxide) is not extracted and is distributed throughout the
home. Danger of intoxication for residents of the home and their
animals!
It is only possible to operate the appliance with complete safety if, when
using the cooker hood and the stove at the same time, there is a negative pressure of 0.04 millibar at the most.
This prevents the exhaust air from the stove from being sucked back
into the room, as there is a sufficient supply of oxygen to replace the
oxygen that has been extracted, e.g. from non-airtight openings in doors
and windows, from ventilation wall chocks (supplying and extracting air)
or other technical devices such as interlock devices or similar.
The exhaust air must not be conducted into a chimney which is used for
the exhaust fumes from appliances which do not run on electricity.
Make sure to observe the regulations laid down by the local authorities.
Recirculating mode can be used without any reservations.
