The Impossible Dream
KOSS Model One Electrostatic Speakers
Until the development of the KOSS Model One electrostatic speaker, the promise of
electrostatics was merely a dream. And one that dates back to the 1870's. Because it
was then that a British scientist recognized the electrostatic trnsducer as the ultimate
means of high accuracy sound reproduction.
Yet even though the audio industry was aware and even convinced of the superiority
of electrostatic transducers, the lack of suitable materials and the difficulty of
manufacturing electrostatic transducers kept all but the most dedicated from persuing
the electrostatic dream.
The development of high powered transistor amplifiers and the emergence of the high
performance acoustic suspension bookshelf speaker in the 1950's heralded a new
level of interest in exotic loudspeaker designs. In such fertile soil the seeds of many of
today's major speaker manufaturers were planted. From bass reflex to corner horn to
acoustic suspension, from directional to omni-directional, they were all exciting and all
unique. But the electrostatic dream lingered on, and saw partial fulfillment in a rash of
hybrid speaker design and at least three designs purporting to be full-range
electrostatics. But the discerning audiophile was not satisfied with partial fulfillment of
the electrostatic promise, and demanded more.
Into this void came the long-promised KOSS Model One. A speaker unlike any other
speaker. A speaker so unique that new standards of acoustic performance are
automatically established by its introduction. A speaker that offers over 20 basic
design innovations never available before in electrostatic loudspeakers. A speaker
that you truly have to hear to believe . . . because the KOSS Model One is without
question a dream come true.
