What is the PrintStation Manager Configuration Utility?

The PrintS tation Manager Confi guration Utilit y (PSM Config) provides the necessary t ools for Configuring, Creating and Deleting Virtual Engines (VE) and PrintStations. Licensing for PrintStation Manager (PSM) options is also available in the PSM Config.

Understanding the PSM Config Main Screen

The PSM Config interface consists of a tree of Virtual Engines, a list of PrintStations, and options for configuring these ite ms. At the top level of the t ree, each branch repr esents a VE. By expanding the VE (clicking on the ‘+’ symbol next to it) the PrintStations that are associated with the respective VE’s can be seen. The list on the right half of the dialog shows all the individual PrintStations configured for the system. The lower pane of the dialog will display errors.
In the Virtual Engines/PrintStations window, a green check mark indicates that the VE is configured correctly. In the PrintStations Window, the PrintStation is correctly configured if an icon representing the type of PrintStation appears to the left of the PrintStation name. This can be seen in the graphic above.
When configuring a Virtua l Engine, t he PrintStations being included must be of th e same type.
Checking the box to the left of a VE icon (see the graphic below) will enable the Generate RIP Autoconfig on exit option for that VE.
Checking the Generate RIP Autoconfig on e xit box at the botto m of the PSM Config dial og will replace all existing VE’s and reconfigure the system to default settings.

Viewing Infor mation on the Main Screen

To view the PrintSt a tions connected to a Virtual Engine:
Click on the ‘+’ next to the Vi rtual Engine chosen to view.

A red ‘X’ in the Virtual Engines/Pr int Stations window indicates that an attempt to configure the Virtual Engine has failed or the pro gram is having trouble communicating with the HostAdapter. In this state, the confi guration utility cannot query the PrintStation to verify the PrintStation type.
If there is a red ‘X’ in the Virtual Engines/PrintStations window next to a Virtual Engine, click on it to view the error message(s).

Creating a Virtual Engine

PrintStation Manager Configuration Utility

Use the PrintS t ation Manager Configuration appl ication to c reate or configur e Virtual Engines and PrintStations.
To create a Virtual Engine:
1. Start the PSM Config Utility.
2. Click Create in the Virtual Engines/PrintStations section of the main screen.
3. Select the PrintStation type and enter a name.
Be sure to type the name of the Virtual Engine exactly the same as in the MicroPress RIP application. Both the PSM Config and MicroPress RIP applica tions are case sensi- tive when naming Virtual Engines and PrintStations.
4. Modify Virtual Engine options if necessary.

Page 14
The Virtual Engine Name and the Pipe Name should match as they do in the graphic shown above. The MicroTiff and MicroScan utilities will not function correctly if these names differ. The name refers only to the VE Name and Pipe Name letter (A1). The VE Name should not
include the \\.\pipe path.
5. Click the Add PS... Then select the PrintStation(s) from the list shown. Click Add.
6. After selecting the PrintStations, click OK.

Licensing

The Licensing feature is used to configure the system. A new system is configured with the Key Codes for the options ordered. To upgrade a current system with additional features, contact your dealer for the appropriate Key Codes.
To upgrade a current system:
1. From the PSM Config window click on the Licensing button.
Key Codes are linked to the dongles in each ClusterServer; therefore, specific to that particular system. Key codes will not verify correctly if copied to a different ClusterServer.
2. Select an option to activate.

Options not configured will display in red.
3. Enter the Key Code for the option.
4. Click OK when finished. The key codes will be verified.

Creating PrintStations

1. Click the Create or Configure button from the PrintStations side of the PSM Config Utility dialog.
The Create button will be disabled if the maximum number of PrintStations are already configured.
2. The Configure PrintSt ation dialog will be displaye d. A unique name will be suggested.
3. If desired, change the Name of the PrintStation.
Changing the name of the PrintStation changes the gamma path. This affects color capable PrintStations only.

4. Select the PrintStation type.
5. Error Timeout: set for the amount of time the PrintStation is allowed to wait before moving the job to another PrintStation.
6. Sleep after last page: set for the amount of time allowed after printi ng the last page of a job before the PrintStation is allowed to sleep. When the PrintStation is not being used, the fuser is in a low power state. This value has no effect on the PrintStation Cii.
7. Device Name: HostAdapter boards are inse rted into the PCI slot s in t he ClusterServer. A cable is attached to the Host Adapter board connecting it to each PrintStation. Choose the appropriate HostAdapter that the PrintStation is connected to under the Device Name drop down menu. Each HostAdapter card can interface two PrintStations in any combination. If a PrintStation type is selected that is connected via a network connection, Device Name will change to IP Address. Enter the IP Address that has been assigned to the PrintStation. See the accompanying configurati on documenta tion for the PrintStation for details on obtaining and assigning the IP Address.
If a PrintStation is connected to a ClusterServer via a network connection, a HostAdapter board is not required.
8. Enter the gamma t able p ath or click the Browse butt on for t he Gamma Path. Sel ect th e gamma file. Refer to the PrintStation Manager manual on how to use Gamma files.
9. Click OK.
If a board is added to the MicroPress the PCI addresses may change. The order of the PrintSt ations names may be m ov ed arou nd du e to this ad dition of hardware. Each Hos tAdapter Board will always have consecutive addresses (TRHostAdapter0 & TRHostAdapter1, TRHostAdapter2 & TRHostAdapter3, etc.).

Glossary

The following table identifies and defines terms as they apply to the T/R Systems MicroPress.
Term Definition Gamma Target This is a print out of color patches used for color calibration of the PrintStation 312
and PrintL ink Cii.
HostAdapter A PC interface board used to control the MicroPress PrintStation. Job Separators Printed slip sheet used to separate one print job from another. Path The files location (drive, directory, sub-directory) within the directory tree. PrintStation Physical pr int engine. Spooler A SPOOLER can be either hardware and/or software that intercepts a print job on its
way to the printer. A spooler typically accepts the job as fast as the client can send it. It can store the job and print it when the printer is free to print. This allows the use r to return to work very quickly by not having to wait on the printer.
Spool path In the PrintStation Manager, this is the location in which a Virtual Engine keeps jobs
that have been processed by the RIP and are ready to print.
Title Bar Displays the name of an application or application window.
By double clicking on the Title Bar, an application or window can be Maximized. A window may also be moved by clicking on the Title Bar, holding the mouse button down, and dragging the window to a different location on the screen.
Virtual Engine Collection of one o r more PrintStations created in the PrintStation Manager Configura-
tion application.
Virtual Printer A set of characteristics created in the MicroPress RIP application that define the out-
put settings applied to incoming jobs.
