Necessary Hardware
Several hardware items are necessary in order to utilize the LaserJet 8000/8100 with the
MicroPress. These items are not available from, nor supported by T/R Syst ems.
T/R Systems recommends acquiring the LaserJet 8000/8100DN. This version comes with
the necessary DRAM, Duplexer, and HP JetDirect Print Server card. An existing LaserJet
8000/8100 should be upgraded to the level of the LaserJet 8000/ 8100DN for use with the
MicroPress software.

TCP/IP
TCP/IP must be installed and an IP address must be obtained from the Network Administrator. The address can be either a static IP address or a dynamic IP address assigned by a
DHCP server.

Configuring TCP/IP Parameters
Using the control panel of your pr inter, you can manually co nfigur e these TCP/IP p arameters :
You can configure BOOTP, which automatically downloads configuration data over the
network (this is the default setting),
–OR–
You can enter these parameters individually:
•IP address (4 bytes)
•Subnet mask (4 bytes)
•Syslog server IP address (4 bytes)
•Default gateway (4 bytes)
•TCP connection timeout (in seconds)
Enter data carefully. If you make an incorrect entry, you cannot change it without starting
again from step 1.
1. Take the printe r offline by pressing On Line to indicate offline.
2. Press Menu repeatedly until HP EIO 1 JetDirect MENU is displayed on the control
panel.
3. Press Item until CFG NETWORK=NO* appears
4. Change the message to CFG NETWORK=YES* using the + and Select buttons:
5. Press Item until CFG TCP/IP=NO* appears.
6. Change this to CFG TCP/IP=YES* by pressi ng +, and then pressing Select.
7. Press Item until BOOTP=YES* or BOOTP=NO* appears.
•The asterisk (*) indicates the active selection.
•To change the BOOTP=setting, press +. Then press Select. Be sure “*” appears along-
side your selection.
For DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) operation, BOOTP must be enabled.
• If an IP address is configured through DHCP and is subsequently changed through
the control panel, the DHCP assigned address is released.
• If a printer is conf igured throu gh DHCP, and you m anually cha nge the s ubnet mas k or
default gateway through the control panel, you should also change the IP address.
Dynamic IP Address
If BOOTP=YES*, the printer is configured to retrieve its TCP/IP parameters over the
network using BOOTP or DHCP. To activate the printer and save your changes, press
OnLine. TCP/IP configuration is complete.

Press Item to continue.
2. Configure the remaining bytes of the IP address in the same manner.
You can configure the subnet mask bytes (SM), syslog server IP address (LG), default
gateway (GW), and timeout (TIMEOUT) in the same manner.
The TIMEOUT parameter default is 90 seconds. Up to 3600 seconds can be configured. If set to “0”, the timeout feature of the HP JetDirect card is disabled––TCP/IP
connections will remain open until closed by the server.
