3. Getting to Know the Basics
Useful Tips
• To enlarge the film image area being copied, use the Glass Mount Film Holder and adjust the focus
using the Focus Adjusting Lever. Adjusting Focus p. 14
• 35 mm strip film can also be copied from the Original Glass, without using the Mount Holder. In this case if the max. size is used, up to approx. 20 frames can be copied in a single copy run.
<For sizes other than 35 mm (medium or large format film)>
The image of the film that can be copied is approx. 1 mm inside the frame on the Positioning Sheet as shown below.

Operating Precautions
• Do not shut off the Projector light. If an object is placed between the Projector and Mirror Unit, the Projector is unable to project the correct image.
• Do not jolt the Projector during operation. If the Projector is jolted (opening and closing a door or cover will produce a shock), especially after shading, the Projector is unable to project the correct image. If jolted, perform shading once again.
• If the Panel Reset key is pressed while you are using the Projector, it cancels all functions set for the Projector.
• Keep the Film Standards, Filter, Lens, Holders, Mirror Unit, and Original Glass away from dust and dirt. Dust and dirt on any of these parts can make the copy look dirty. Cleaning p. 15

7. Troubleshooting Tips
Copy Image Problems
Blurred image
• The film is probably not in the correct position. Reload the film.
• Adjust focus. p. 14
Part of the image is missing.
• Only limited sizes of film can be copied. When placing the film, make sure all of the areas to be copied are in position. (See “When Making Copies” for the film image size to be copied and copy size. p. 3)
Useful Tip
Use the Glass Mount Film Holder because the mounted film will make the copy image slightly larger via focus adjustment.
Lines on the copy
• The Film Standard, Filter, Lens, Holder,Mirror Unit or Original Glass may be dirty with dust. Clean the surface. p. 15
• The Mirror Unit may have been jolted. Perform shading once again. p. 11
Too light or dark image
The type of film (positive or negative) may not match with the type of Filter installed (Posi or Nega).
Install the correct Filter according to the type
of film and start the steps over beginning with shading. p. 11
Faulty Shading
If the Projector fails to perform shading correctly, the message “Check for correct Filter, Film Standard (Negative only), and retry SHADING.” appears on the Touch Panel. Try the following before touching .
• When making copies from 35 mm positive film, the shading has been performed with the film loaded. Remove the Film Holder and perform
shading with nothing loaded in the Projector.
• Shading has been attempted with the Fresnel Lens in the raised position when large-size film (other sizes) is being used. Lower the Fresnel Lens and then perform
shading again.
Shading
NOTES
• Black lines can occur along the edges of the image depending o n the placement of the film and Holder. This is the resultof the frame of the Holder or edge of the film being projected.
• Fine streaks can occur on the bright areas of the copy image when negative film is copied. If this is the case, the second shading will not correct the problem.
Bands of uneven density
The Projector reads the subtle conditions of the film surface. Change the position of the film as follows.
• Raise and lower the top cover of the holder.
• Move the film placed in position.
• Turn the film upside down (but don’t turn it over).
• The light from the Projector is being cut off.
Ensure that nothing blocks the light between
the Projector and Mirror Unit or cuts off the light from the Projector.
• The Mirror Unit is not in position.
Reinstall the Mirror Unit correctly.
If all of these procedures do not correct the problem, see “Faulty Symptoms” that follows on page 13.
13
7. Troubleshooting Tips
Faulty Sy mptoms
• The copier cannot be set into the Projector mode.
• The Projector lamp does not l ight up.
• The Projector lamp remains lit and will not go out.
• A blank sheet of paper is fed out of the copier when negative film is used.
• A solid black copy is produced when positive film is used.
These symptoms are a result of the following;
• The optical fiber cable is loose. Turn OFF the copier as well as the Projector.
Reconnect the optical fiber cable and then turn the copier and Projector ON.
• The Projector Power Switch is OFF or the Power Cord is unplugged. Turn the copier OFF. Plug in the Power Cord
of the Projector and turn the copier and projector ON.
• The lamp is out. Call your Tech. Rep. and have him/her
replace the lamp.
Making the Film Standard
• Cut off an unexposed frame of the negative film and place it in the Spare Mount to make a new Film Standard.
