isdesignedtobeaveryversatilesystemwithmanyinterchangeableparts.
ThecNODEMiniS1.11-50VTitranspondersareusedwithHiP APandcP APsystemsin
underwaterpositioningandareidealforpositioningROVs.Theyhaveresponderand
transponderfunctionality,SSBLandLBLpositioning,andtelemetrycapabilities.
cNODEMiniS1.11-50VTiiscompatiblewithbothCymbalprotocolforpositioningand
datalinkandHiPAP/HPR400channelsandtelemetry.
Thetranspondersareratedto11000mwithahousingmadeoftitanium.Theyhave
aninternaltiltsensor±90°,anexternalon/offfunctionandapressurereliefvalvefor
safetypurposes.
cNODEMiniS1.11-50VTipowersfromaninternalrechargeableLi–Ionbatterypack,
andcanbechargedfromROVs24Vduringoperation.Anon-deckbatterychargeris

chargedfromanondeckbatterychargerorfroma
ROV’s24Vduringoperation.
Batterycharger
Chargingthebatteryhassomerisks,readtheprocedurerst.
Thebatterychargerchargestheinternaltransponderbatteryinapproximately1hour.
TheLEDchargestatusindicatorshowswhenchargingiscomplete.
InadditionthebatterychargerforthedeepwaterMiniS1.11–50VTihasanadapterfrom
thetransducerconnectortothecharger.

ThefollowinggeneralsupplyconditionsapplytothisKongsbergcNODEMiniS
1.11-50VTidelivery.
Receipt,unpackingandstorage
Uponacceptingshipmentoftheequipment,theshipyardand/orthedealermustensure
thatthedeliveryiscompleteandinspecteachshippingcontainerforevidenceofphysical
damage.
Iftheinspectionrevealsanyindicationofcrushing,dropping,immersioninwateror
anyotherformofdamage,therecipientshouldrequestthatarepresentativefromthe
companyusedtotransporttheequipmentbepresentduringunpacking.
Allequipmentmustbeinspectedforphysicaldamage,i.e.brokencontrolsandindicators,
dents,scratchesetc.duringunpacking.Ifanydamagetotheequipmentisdiscovered,the
recipientmustnotifyboththetransportationcompanyandKongsbergMaritimesothat
KongsbergMaritimecanarrangeforreplacementorrepairofthedamagedequipment.
Onceunpacked,theequipmentmustbestoredinacontrolledenvironmentwithan
atmospherefreeofcorrosiveagents,excessivehumidityortemperatureextremes.
Theequipmentmustbecoveredtoprotectitfromdustandotherformsofcontamination
whenstored.
Equipmentresponsibility
Unlessotherwisestatedinthecontract,theshipyarddoingtheinstallationand/or
equipmentdealerbecomesfullyresponsiblefortheequipmentuponreceipt.
Thedurationofresponsibilitycover:
• Theperiodoftimetheequipmentisstoredlocallybeforeinstallation
• Theentireinstallationprocess
• Commissioning
• Theperiodoftimebetweencommissioningandthenalacceptanceoftheequipment
bytheenduserorowner
Unlessotherarrangementshavebeenmadeinthecontract,theKongsbergcNODE
MiniS1.11-50VTiwarrantyperiod(asspeciedinthecontract)beginswhenthe
acceptancedocumentshavebeensigned.

General acoustic
considerations
Takethisinformationintoconsiderationwhendeployingthetransponders.
Acousticrange
Thedepthratingshouldnotbeconfusedwithacousticrange.Theacousticrangeis
dependentonmanyfactors,andsomeofthefactorsareoutsidecontroloftheuser.
Vesselsystem
Thedirectivityandcoverageareaforthevesselsystemisdifferent,dependingonwhich
systemyouareusing.Somesystemshavehighdirectivityandomnidirectionalcoverage,
whileothersystemshasreducedcoverageandlessdirectivity.Thetranspondershould
alwaysbewithinthecoverageconeofthevesselsystem.
Transducertype
Therearedifferenttypesoftransducersusedonthetransponders.Anomnidirectional
transducer,suchasaTD180,coversalargearea,buthaslessacousticpowercompared
toafocusedtransducer,suchasTD50V .Afocusedsignalgiveslessfootprint/coverage.
Thevesselshouldalwaysbewithinthesignalfootprintofthetransponder.
TXPower
Theabilitytodetectsignalsdependsonthesignalstrength.Thetransmissionpowercan
beadjusted,bothforthevesselsystemandforthetransponder.
Acousticnoise
Acousticnoiseispresentatallvessels.Atgivenconditions,thenoiselevelcanbe
excessive.Acousticnoiseiscausedbymainpropellersandthrusters,andinsome
instancesalsofrommachinery/pumpsonboard.Heavypropeller/thrusteruseoralso
wavescanalsogenerateairbubbles,whichcangetinfrontofthevesseltransducerand
blocktheacousticsignal.

Soundvelocityandraybending
Changesinsoundvelocitythroughthewatercolumncausedbychangesinthewater
temperatureand/orsalinitycanbendtheacousticsignalandmakeitimpossibletoreach

Chargingthebatteryisconnectedwithsomerisk,pleasereadtheinformationandfollow
thechargeprocedurecarefully
Prerequisites
Caution
EqualisethetemperatureofthecNODEMiniS1.11-50VTitobetween10°Cand40°C
beforechargingit.
Foron-deckcharging,usethecNODEbatterychargeronly.
Neverchargethebatteryunattended.
Context
AlwaysconnectthecNODEbatterychargertothecNODEMiniS1.11-50VTibefore
connectingthecNODEbatterychargertothemains(110or220V AC).
Thebatterymustbefullychargedbeforelongtermstorageanditisrecommendedto
rechargethebatteryevery6monthstomakesurethebatterydoesnotdischargeovertime.
Requiredbatterystatefortransportationis30%orlessremainingcapacitytocomply
withregulations.
Procedure
1 SwitchoffthecNODEtransponder.
2 Lettheunitwarmuporcooldowntoanambienttemperatureof10°Cto40°C
beforecharging.
3 ConnectthechargercableforcNODEMiniS1.11–50VTitothetransponderand
thecharger.
4 Connectthechargertomains(110or220V AC).
5 Removethepowercordaftercharging,beforeremovingtheconnectortothe
cNODEMiniS1.11-50VTi.
Result
TheLEDindicatoronthechargerashesgreenwhencharging.Itnormallytakesabout
30secondsbeforethechargingstartsandtheLEDindicatorstartsashinggreenafter
connectingthecNODEbatterychargertothemains.Thebatterywillbechargedwithin
1hour.TheLEDindicatorwillstaygreenwhenfullycharged.
Thetransponderisthenreadyforuse.

operatedinairfortestpurposesoverashortperiodoftime.
Prerequisites

1 Connecttheon/offplugtotheendcapconnector.
2 Tightenthelockingsleevetotheendcap
connector.
Result
Abuzzcanbeheardwithin25secondsasaconrmationthatthetransponderisactivated.
Furtherrequirements
ItisrecommendedtotestthetransponderwiththeTestandCongurationunit(TTC)to
makesurethetransponderisworkingproperlybeforeoperation.
Connectingthetranspondertoexternal
powerandrespondersignals
Thetranspondercanalsobeusedasaresponderunit.
Prerequisites
Thetranspondermustbechargedbeforeuse.
Procedure
1 Usethecablewithpartnumber402462fromKongsberg.
2 Connectwire6and8inthepigtail(theON/OFFfunction).
