Thedepthratingshouldnotbeconfusedwithacousticrange.Theacousticrangeis dependentonmanyfactors,andsomeofthefactorsareoutsidecontroloftheuser.
Vesselsystem
Thedirectivityandcoverageareaforthevesselsystemisdifferent,dependingonwhich systemyouareusing.Somesystemshavehighdirectivityandomnidirectionalcoverage, whileothersystemshasreducedcoverageandlessdirectivity.Thetranspondershould alwaysbewithinthecoverageconeofthevesselsystem.

TXPower
Theabilitytodetectsignalsdependsonthesignalstrength.Thetransmissionpowercan beadjusted,bothforthevesselsystemandforthetransponder.
Acousticnoise
Acousticnoiseispresentatallvessels.Atgivenconditions,thenoiselevelcanbe excessive.Acousticnoiseiscausedbymainpropellersandthrusters,andinsome instancesalsofrommachinery/pumpsonboard.Heavypropeller/thrusteruseoralso wavescanalsogenerateairbubbles,whichcangetinfrontofthevesseltransducerand blocktheacousticsignal.
