Introduction
Before using the appliance for the first
time make yourself familiar with all func-
tions of the appliance and inform yourself
about the correct handling of electrical tools.
To do this, read the following operating instructions.
Retain these instructions for future reference.
Pass these documents on to whoever might acquire
the appliance at a future date.
Intended utilisation
The appliance is suitable for the dry sanding and
buffing of wood, metal and paint. Any other uses,
and modifications to the appliance, are deemed to
be improper usage and may result in serious physical
injury. The manufacturer accepts no responsibility
for damage(s) resulting from improper usage. This
appliance is not intended for commercial applications.

the following fundamental safety instructions
need to be observed for your protection against
electric shock, personal injury and the danger
of fire. Read and take note of these operating
instructions and the safety advice contained
therein before using the appliance. Non-observance of the following instructions could give you
an electric shock, cause a fire and / or incur seri

ous personal injury.
Working area safety
J Keep your working area clean and tidy. Ensure
good illumination of the working area. Untidy
and poorly lit working areas can lead to accidents.

J Risk of Explosion! Do not work with
the appliance in areas subject to the risk
of explosions, those in which flammable liquids,
gases or dusts are located. Electrical tools
produce sparks, which could ignite the dust or the
vapours.
J Keep children and other third parties
at a distance when using electrical
hand tools.
If distracted, you could lose the control over the
appliance.
Electrical safety
Avoid mortal danger through
electric shock:
J The power plug of the appliance must fit
correctly into the wall socket. The plug may
not be altered in any way. Do not use adapter
plugs together with earthed appliances.
Non-modified plugs and appropriate wall sockets
reduce the risk of receiving an electric shock.
J Avoid physical contact with earthed surfaces,
such as pipes, heaters, stoves and refrigerators.
There is an increased risk of electrocution if
your body is earthed.
J Protect the appliance from rain and
moisture. The permeation of water into
an electrical appliance increases the risk of you
receiving an electric shock.
J Do not misuse the power cable, e.g. to carry the
appliance, to hang it up or for pulling the plug
from the wall socket. Keep the power cable
away from heat, oil, sharp edges and moving
appliance parts.
Damaged or tangled cables and defective plugs
increase the risk of you receiving an electric shock.
J Damaged appliances, power cables
and power plugs mean potentially
fatal risks from electric shock.
J Regularly check the condition of the appliance,
the power cable, the power plug and, if need be,
the charger and the battery pack.
J When working outdoors, use only extension
cables which are certified for use outdoors.
The use of an extension cable certified for use
outdoors reduces the risk of an electric shock.
J Do not take appliances into use that have
damaged components. In a case of emergency,
immediately disconnect the power supply.
J Warning! - Never open the appliance.
Arrange for repair or component replacement
work to be carried out by the service centre or
specialists for electrical repairs.
Personal safety
J Always be alert and be aware of what you are
doing. Use lots of common sense when working
with electrical appliances. Do not use such appliances when you are unconcentrated or tired,
or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medications. Simply a few moments of inattention in
the use of an electrical appliance can lead to serious personal injuries.
J Wear personal protective gear and
always wear safety glasses. The
wearing of personal protective clothing
such as dust masks, anti-slip safety shoes, pro
tective gloves, hard helmet and hearing protection can, depending on the use of the electrical
appliance, reduce the risk of injuries.
J Avoid unintentional starting of the appliance.
Make certain that the switch is in the "OFF"
position before you insert the plug into the power
socket. If you have a finger on the ON / OFF
switch while carrying the appliance or the appliance is already switched on when it is connected
to the power supply, this can result in accidents.
J Remove setup tools or screw keys before
switching the appliance on.
A tool or key in a spinning appliance component
can cause serious injuries.
J Do not overestimate yourself. Ensure you have
a secure positioning and are in balance at all
times. This allows you much better control over
the appliance, especially in unexpected situations.
J Wear suitable clothing. Do not wear loose clothing
or jewellery. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves
away from moving components. Wear a hair net
if you have long hair. Loose clothing and clothing
that is not close against the body as well as
jewellery and hair can be caught by moving parts.

Safety instructions
J Use dust vacuuming and collecting equipment
if these can be attached to the appliance. Please
note that the vacuums used must be suitable for
this special application. The correct use of this
equipment reduces the risks from dust.
There is a risk of fire when working with electrical
appliances that have a dust sack or can be
connected to an appropriate appliance with a dust
suction attachment! Under unfavourable conditions,
such as flying sparks, grinding of metal or metal
remnants in wood, the wood dust in the dust
sack (or in the collection sack of a vacuum cleaner)
can ignite. This can happen especially if the
wood dust has paint particles on it or is mixed
with other chemical substances and the sanded
material is hot after extensive working. You
should therefore avoid an overheating of the
items being worked and of the appliance, and
always empty the dust sack or the filter sack of
the vacuum before work pauses.
Careful handling and use
of electrical tools
J Do not overload the appliance. Use the correct
electrical tool for the task in hand. With the most
suitable electrical hand tool you will work better
and safer within its predetermined area of
performance.
J Never use an electrical tool with a defective
switch. An electrical tool that can no longer be
switched on or off is dangerous and must be
repaired.
J Remove the plug from the power socket before
making adjustments to the appliance, changing
accessories or putting the appliance away. These
precautionary measures prevent accidental
starting of the appliance.
J Store unused electrical tools out of the reach of
children. Do not allow people to operate the tool
who are not familiar with the appliance or who
have not read these instructions. Electrical tools
are dangerous if used by inexperienced persons.
J Take good care of the appliance. Check to ensure
that moving appliance parts are functioning correctly and do not jam, that parts are not broken
or damaged and that the functioning of the
appliance is not impaired. Have damaged parts
repaired before using the appliance. Many accidents
are caused by poorly maintained electrical tools.
J Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Carefully
maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges
jam less often and are easier to guide.
J Use electrical hand tools, accessories or ancillary
components only in accordance
with these
instructions and in such a
manner as is detailed
for the particular types of appliance. Take heed
of the operating conditions and the activities to
be performed. The use of electrical tools for
purposes other than their intended applications
can result in dangerous situations.
Appliance-specific safety
instructions
J When working in outside areas, protect yourself
against leakage current by fitting an FI protection
switch with a max. activation rating of 30 mA.
J Only use an extension cable certified for use
outdoors.
J Secure the workpiece firmly. Use clamps or a
vice to firmly hold the workpiece. This results
in a safer grip than with your hand.
J Under no circumstances should you place your
hands next to or in front of the appliance or on
the area to be worked, you could be seriously
injured if you slip or stumble.
J In event of danger, immediately remove the
power plug from the socket.
J Always run the power cable away from the
appliance to the rear.
J Fire hazard due to flying sparks! When sanding
metals, there is a risk of flying sparks. For this
reason, always make certain that no one is at
risk and that no flammable materials are located
near the working area.
J m Warning! Toxic vapours!
The working of materials that can produce harmful /
toxic dusts presents a health risk for the operator
and for people located in the close vicinity.
Wear safety glasses and a dust pro-
tection mask!
J When working for extended periods on wood
and, in particular, materials that produce dusts

that are hazardous to health, connect the appliance to an appropriate external suction device.
J Provide for sufficient ventilation when working
plastics, varnishes and paints.
J Do not soak materials or surfaces to be worked
with liquids containing solvents. The heat generated during sanding can give rise to vapours
that are toxic or hazardous to health.
J Avoid sanding lead-based paints or other
materials that are hazardous to health.
J Material containing asbestos may not be worked.
Asbestos is considered to be a carcinogen.
J Avoid contact with the moving sanding sheet.
J Use the appliance only with a sanding sheet in
place.
J Never use the appliance for purposes other than
those intended and only with original
components / accessories.
J Introduce the appliance to the work piece with
it switched on. On task completion, lift the appliance from the work piece and then switch it off.
J Hold the appliance firmly during the work phase.
Ensure that your stance is secure and stable.
J Permit the switched off appliance to come to a
complete standstill before putting it down.
J Always remove the plug from the power socket
during work breaks, when adjusting the appliance (e.g. changing the sanding sheet) and
when it is no longer in use.
J Never use the appliance for purposes other than
those intended for it.
J The appliance must always be kept clean, dry
and free of oil or grease.
J Be attentive! Never use the appliance when you
are distracted or don’t feel well.
Service
J Arrange for your appliance to be repaired only
by qualified specialists and only with original
spare parts. Thus, you can be certain that the
safety of your appliance is assured.
J Always arrange for the exchange of the plug or
the power cable to be carried out by the manufacturer of the appliance or by his approved
customer services. Thus, you can be certain
that the safety of your appliance is assured.
Original accessories / tools
J Use only the ancillaries and accessories that are
detailed in the operating instructions. The use
of parts other than those recommended in the
operating instructions, or other accessories, can
put you at risk of injury.
Understood everything?
J You may begin to work with the appliance when
you have familiarised yourself with the instructions, functions and handling of the appliance.
The safest work is possible by heeding all information and instructions of the manufacturer.
Commissioning
Pay heed to the local power rating. The voltage of
the power source must tally with the details given
on the rating plate of the appliance. Appliances requiring 230 V can also be run on 220 V.
Switching on and off
Notice! Always switch the rotary sander on before
applying it to the material to be worked, then make
contact with it.
Switching the appliance on:
j Press the On / Off switch W.
Switching the appliance off:
j Release the On / Off switch W.
Switching on for sustained operation:
j Press the On / Off switch W and, at the same
time, secure it with the locking button E.
Switching off after sustained operation:
j Press the On / Off switch W and then release it.
Rotation preselection:
j Select the desired rotation with the adjusting
wheel rotation speed selector T.
Commissioning
DUO-START function / Reduced idling rotation speed:
The appliance is fitted with a reducer for the rotation
speed when idling.The full motor performance resp.
the preselected rotation speed becomes available
with the additional activation of a DUO-START switch.
j Activate either the Front switch
DUO-START
P or
the Hand switch
DUO-START
Q (see Figs. A, B, C).
This makes possible a gentler touch down onto the
work piece.
Note: The front switch
DUO-START
P springs back
into the starting position on being released.
Changing sanding sheets
m Warning! Before carrying out work on the
appliance, always remove the plug from the power
socket.
The rotary sander is fitted with a velcro rapid attachment, making possible a quick and easy exchange
of sanding sheets.
Note: Before securing a new sanding sheet O,
remove all dust and dirt from the sander plate I.
j Ensure that the openings in the sanding sheet
O
concur with the boreholes of the sanding plate I.
Dust suction
m Warning! Fire hazard! A risk of fire exists when
working with electrical appliances that have a dust
collection box or can be connected to an external
collection unit via a dust suction adapter! Under unfavourable conditions, such as flying sparks, grinding
of metal or metal remnants in wood, the wood dust
in the dust sack (or in the dust sack of a vacuum
cleaner) can ignite.This can happen especially if the
wood dust has paint particles on it or is mixed with
other chemical substances and the material being
sanded is hot after extensive working. You should
therefore avoid an overheating of the items being
sanded, as well of as the appliance itself, and always empty the dust collection box or the dust bag
of the suction unit before work pauses.
Wear a dust protection mask!
m Warning! Before carrying out work on the
appliance, always remove the plug from the power
socket.
Installing the suction ring:
The suction ring U makes possible an optimal dust
suction.
j Place the suction ring U in the housing guide.
Close the clamp bracket on the housing rear side.
Dust suction with the dust collection box:
j Slide the dust collection box R onto the adaptor
opening on the appliance rear side.
Emptying the dust collection box:
j Press the release buttons Y on both sides, then
remove the dust collection box R from the
appliance.
Note: To maintain an optimal suction performance,
empty the dust collection box R regularly.
Adapter for external suction (Fig. D)
Connection:
j Slide the adaptor for external suction { exactly
and completely onto the adapter opening on the
appliance rear side.
j Slide the tube of an authorised dust collection
unit (e.g. a workshop vacuum cleaner) onto the
adaptor for external suction {.
Removal:
j Remove the tube of the dust collection unit from
the adaptor for external suction {.
j Press both release buttons and remove the
adaptor for external dust collection { from the
appliance.
Selecting rotation speeds
and sanding sheets
Removal rate and surface quality
The removal rate and the surface quality are determined by the rotation speed and the gritting of the
sanding sheet.

j Please take note that, for working the various
materials, you must select the appropriate
sanding sheet, one with a suitable gritting, and
match it to an appropriate rotation speed.

Optimal working procedures
Work with a minimum of pressure!
j Move the appliance parallel, in extensive circles
or alternatively to and across.
j Clean the sanding pad occasionally with the
vacuum cleaner.
j Never sand different materials with the same
sanding pad (e.g. wood then metal).
j Only with faultless sanding sheets can you
obtain a good sanding performance and spare
the appliance.
Maintenance and Cleaning
m Warning! Before carrying out work on the
appliance, always remove the plug from the power
socket.
The rotary sander is maintenance free.
j Clean the appliance regularly, preferably directly
on completion of the task.
j For cleaning the housing use a dry cloth, under
no circumstances should you use detergents,
solvents or abrasive cleaners.
j Remove dust clinging to the sander with a brush.
Disposal
The packaging is made to 100 % of environ-
mentally friendly materials which you can
dispose of at your local recycling centre.
Do not dispose of electrical tools
in your normal domestic waste!
According to European Directive 2002 / 96 / EC for
used electrical and electronic appliances, and its
adoption into national laws, worn-out electrical tools
must be collected separately and subjected to an
environmentally friendly recycling procedure.
Your local communal or municipal authorities can
provide information on how to dispose of the wornout appliance.
