About This Release
New Features
Unicode Support
▪ Exchange Server 2003 SP2
▪ SAP 7
▪ Cisco CallManager 9
All Microsoft hotfixes released until 1 June 2013 were installed.
This section lists enhancements that have been added to the product in Kofax Communication
Server 9.2.0.
Kofax Communication Server (KCS) now supports Unicode.
Kofax Communication Server did support non-English characters before; however, it was
required that KCS be configured to a particular code page / character set. While the code
page concept allows KCS to work with a variety of character sets, it has the fundamental
drawback that it can't work with all character sets at the same time. For example, having both
Russian and Japanese characters in one message was not possible.
With this release, Kofax Communication Server can be configured to use Unicode (UTF-8) to
store and process message data. Administrators and users can display these messages in both
client applications, TCfW Communication Server Client and TC/Web client.
Any non-Unicode message received by KCS is converted to Unicode and then stored in KCS.
Messages sent via the following TC/LINK types can be sent in Unicode:
▪ Link types base on SMTP protocol (SM, OC, SDD, MFP, MX7, SC7)
▪ TC/LINK-LN
▪ TC/LINK-FI (file formats TOM, XML)
▪ TC/LINK-MD and TC/LINK-WM
▪ TC/LINK-MQ (file formats TOM, XML)
Messages sent via other TC/LINK types continue to use the local character set on the interface
of the remote system.
For more information, see:
▪ Unicode Installation Guide, version 9.02.00 edition 2
Support for Third-Party Software
The following third-party software is newly supported with Kofax Communication
Server9.2.0.
▪ Cisco Unified Communications Manager 8 and 9 (fax and voice integration)
▪ IBM MQ 7.5 (supported in TC/LINK-MQ)
▪ Internet Explorer 10
▪ Lotus Notes 9 (supported for TC/LINK-LN, TC/SPI-LN, but not for TC/MWA-LN)
▪ Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 (supported for TC/LINK-MX7, but not for TC/MWA-MX
and TC/SPI-MX)

▪ Microsoft Office 2013 (supported for document conversion and MAPI printer)
▪ Microsoft SQL Server 2012 (supported for TC/Probe, TC/Report, KCS Monitoring)
Newly supported operating systems:
▪ Windows 8 Professional / Enterprise (KCS client applications only)
▪ Windows Server 2012 (KCS server components, links, TCfW client)
▪ Hyper-V on Windows Server 2012 host
TCIMG32: Disabling Halftone Dithering
It is now possible to disable halftone dithering when converting PDF documents into black
and white images. The resulting image is faster to fax, but the quality of graphics is lower.
(SPR00104667)
This behavior is controlled by a new registry value “HKLM\Software\Topcall\TCLINKxx
\TCIMG32\Halftonedither” that can take the following values:
▪ 0: Halftone dithering is disabled.
▪ 1: Halftone dithering is enabled (default value).
If this registry value does not exist, halftone dithering is enabled.

TC/Broadcast: New Template Variables $PagesSent$ and $PagesSentTotal$
TC/Broadcast sends an end report to the user when all messages for a job are terminated. You
can now use two additional variables in the notification templates (SPR00113578):
▪ $PagesSent$ - number of fax pages sent for this send order (“-” if no fax send order)
▪ $PagesSentTotal$ - total number of fax pages sent for this send order, including retries (“-”
if no fax send order)
For more information, see:
▪ TC/Broadcast Manual, version 1.12.00 edition 2
TC/LINK: Exception Queue Handling for Email Body Conversion Issues
Exception queue handling is enhanced in this release. You can use this feature not only for
problematic attachments, but also in case of problems in the email body. (SPR00122130,

About This Release
TC/LINK: Suppress Page Break Between Notification and Message
TC/LINK: Conversion of EML Files with Embedded Attachments
TC/LINK can be configured to suppress page breaks between the notification text and the
image of the original message. (SPR00102188)
This behavior is controlled by a new registry value “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software
\TOPCALL\<linkname>\TOPCALL\NotifImageFirstPage” that can take the following
values:
▪ 0: Notification image file has a page break after the notification text (default)
▪ 1: No page break between notification text and the start of original message image
For more information, see:
▪ TC/LINK Technical Manual, version 2.27.00 edition 4
Chapter Product Description - Notifications - Notifications into Mail
TC/LINK can successfully convert EML files with embedded attachments. This applies to the
following links (FR2479):
TC/LINK-MD: Periodic Alerts to Detect Connection Loss
TC/LINK-MD can be configured to send UCP-31 alert operations during each poll cycle. If
there is no positive feedback for the UCP-31 command, connections are shut down and then
reinitialized. (SPR00102608)
This function is controlled by the following registry values:
▪ Ucp31Support - Set to 1 to send a UCP-31 alert command during each poll cycle (disabled
by default)
▪ Ucp31AdC - Address Code as required by the UCP 31 alert command
▪ Ucp31Pid - Protocol Identifier as required by the UCP 31 alert command
For more information, see:
▪ TC/LINK-WM and TC/LINK-MD Technical Manual, version 2.21.00 edition 6
Chapter Registry Keys Used by TC/LINK-WM (MD) - Configuration Details (TC/LINK-
MD KCS UCP Only) - UCP-31 Alert Command
TC/LINK-MQ: Message Segmentation
TC/LINK-MQ supports message segmentation and reassembly by the application. This is for
messages (transaction files or attachments) that are too large for the queue manager or the
queue to handle. (SPR00105583)
10
Kofax Communication Server Release Notes
This behavior is controlled by a new registry value “HKLM\Software\Topcall\TCLINKMQ
\Options\MessageSegmentation” that can take the following values:
▪ 0: Message segmentation is disabled (default value)
▪ 1: Message segmentation is enabled
It might be necessary to increase the log file size and numbers of the queue manager.
Note MQ Message Segmentation does not work with character conversion. Character
conversion is only performed for TOM transaction files if requested by the application calling
MQGet.
TC/LINK-MQ: SSL Connection to Message Queue Server
TC/LINK-MQ can now connect to IBM WebSphere MQ Server using SSL. (SPR00121425)
For more information, see:
▪ TC/LINK-MQ Technical Manual, version 2.26.00 edition 4
Chapter Appendix - TC/LINK-MQ with SSL
TC/MWA-MX: Support of Microsoft Exchange 2010
About This Release
TC/MWA-MX now supports Microsoft Exchange 2010. (SPR00092313)
For more information, see:
▪ TC/MWA-MX Technical Manual, version 1.03.00 edition 2
TC/LINK-MX7: Support of Microsoft Exchange Server 2013
TC/LINK-MX7 now supports Exchange Server 2013 (cumulative update 1 or later).
(SPR00119847)
Note Exchange Server 2013 is not supported with TC/MWA-MX and TC/SPI-MX.
TC/LINK-SM: Configurable Default Character Set
You can configure how TC/LINK-SM interprets MIME header fields that contain special
characters if no character set is specified. Previously, the character set was hard-coded to
ISO-8859-1. ISO-8859-1 is also the new default value. (SPR00122876)
The character set is configured by the registry value TCMIME\DefaultCharset. Supported
values are: windows-xxxx, ISO-8859-X, us-ascii. The value is treated as case-insensitive.
For more information, see:
▪ TC/LINK-SM / TC/LINK-OC Technical Manual, version 2.07.00 edition 14
Chapter Appendix - Registry Keys Used by TC/LINK-SM
TC/LINK-SM: Keep Empty Attachments
You can configure TC/LINK-SM to keep empty attachments. Previously, zero-length
attachments were silently deleted. This is also the current default behavior. (SPR00111345)
Kofax Communication Server Release Notes
11
About This Release
TC/LINK-SM: Configurable Date Format in Email Header
The behavior is controlled by the registry value TCMIME\KeepEmptyAttachments:
▪ 0 - Delete empty attachments (default)
▪ 1 - Process empty attachments
For more information, see:
▪ TC/LINK-SM / TC/LINK-OC Technical Manual, version 2.07.00 edition 14
Chapter Appendix - Registry Keys Used by TC/LINK-SM
You can configure the date and time format shown in the email header in body text.
(SPR00121797)
The HTML header is defined in the file ExitEmailHeaderConfig.txt in the c:\tcoss\tclp
folder. This UTF-8 text file consists of internal variables defining the HTML snippets of the
header to be created.
The variable $dateTimeFormat in ExitEmailHeaderConfig.txt defines the date and time
format. The default value is dd.MM.yyyy HH:mm:ss. This value is case-sensitive.
Setup will overwrite ExitEmailHeaderConfig.txt and ExitEmailHeader.txt. Always make a
copy of these files if you change them. Setup makes a backup copy with postfix “.backup”;
however, if you start setup a second time your changes are lost.
For more information, see:
▪ TC/LINK-SM / TC/LINK-OC Technical Manual, version 2.07.00 edition 14
Chapter Installation - Special Features - Email Header in Body Text - Configuration of
HTML Header
TC/LINK-SM: Convert Text Attachments to UTF-8
You can configure TC/LINK-SM to convert text attachments to UTF-8 with correct byte order
mark when sending to KCS. (SPR00121837)
The behavior is configured by a new registry value:
TCMIME\ConvertTextAttachmentToUtf8.
▪ 0: Do not change plain text attachments when sending to KCS. This is the default value for
all links except TC/LINK-SC7.
▪ 1: When sending to KCS, try to convert text attachments to UTF-8 with the correct byte
order mark.
For more information, see:
▪ TC/LINK-SM / TC/LINK-OC Technical Manual, version 2.07.00 edition 14
Chapter Appendix - Registry Keys Used by TC/LINK-SM
TC/SOAP: Configure URL Used in SoapAction Header Field
12
The URL used in the SoapAction header field is configurable in a new registry value,
SOAPPROC\SoapActionPrefix. (SPR00070999)
Kofax Communication Server Release Notes
This value defines the string between “http://” and “/PostMessage” (or other function
name) in the SoapAction header field. The value is only effective if ShortSoapAction is set to
0.
Example: If SoapActionPrefix equals “vm-fs-links.local/KCSFunctions”, the resulting
SOAPAction could be “http://vm-fs-links.local/KCSFunctions/PostMessage”.
If this value is not specified or empty, the SOAPAction value is built from the complete server
URL, as specified by the fixed or dynamic recipient.
For more information, see:
▪ TC/SOAP Technical Manual, version 1.06.00 edition 2
Chapter Appendix - Registry Keys
TWS: Display Page Count on Fax Cover Page
The TWS web service function SendMessage has a new optional parameter, Pages. The
number of fax pages can now be displayed on the cover page in the cover variable $EPg$.
(SPR00122879)
The Pages parameter can take the following values:
▪ -1: The number of pages is calculated automatically. Using this option can affect sending
performance, as a message preview must be first generated to count the pages.
▪ 0: The number of pages is not displayed on the cover sheet (default value).
▪ 1, 2, 3, ... 999: The specified value is displayed on the cover sheet.
