About This Release
New Features
Support for Third-Party Software
All Microsoft hotfixes released until October 1, 2014, were installed.
This section lists enhancements that have been added to the product in Kofax Communication
Server 10.0.0.
The following third-party software is newly supported with Kofax Communication Server
10.0.0:
▪ Internet Explorer 11 (desktop mode)
▪ Internet Information Server 8 (TC/Web)
▪ SQL Server 2014 (supported for TC/Probe, TC/Report)
▪ IBM MQ 8.0 (supported in TC/LINK-MQ)
Newly supported operating systems:
▪ Windows Server 2012 R2
Microsoft Lync Integration
Kofax Communication Server can use the KCS Lync Link to connect to Microsoft Lync
Server in order to send notifications to Lync users when they receive a new message on KCS.
(273305)
The following use cases are supported:
▪ When the KCS user Rajesh receives a fax message, KCS Lync Link sends an instant
message to his Lync account. The fax message is not included.
▪ When the KCS user Penny receives an SMS, KCS Lync Link forwards her the message in an
instant message.
▪ KCS administrator Howard has an alert configured in his KCS user profile. When the alert
is triggered, KCS sends an alert message to Howard's KCS inbox and forwards the message
to his Lync account as an instant message, including the original message text.
The instant messages remain active until the Lync users receive them. The KCS Lync Link
does not accept any replies from the Lync users.
TC/LINK-RS: New Export Connectors

TCfW now displays seconds along with hours and minutes in all timestamps. (329351)
Support of 150 Fax Channels on Virtual Environment
Kofax Communication Server has been successfully tested with 150 fax channels on virtual
computers in a tandem environment. (283885)
See KCS Environment Guide (Platform System Manual).
Searching in Inbound Fax Messages
Kofax Communication Server can route inbound fax messages via KCS Capture Connector to
Kofax Capture for optical character recognition. The converted messages then return to KCS.
As a result, you can now use text search in the fax messages. (284993, 293410)
Fax over IP: Characters in Numbers for SIP Calls
FoIP now supports “U” switch (unrestricted digits) in the fax number to support the
characters A, B, C, and D, in addition to digits 0 - 9. The U switch must be placed after all
other send switches. It is only supported for SIP calls. (318813)
KCS Capture Connector: Reject Reception Errors
You can now configure KCS Capture Connector to use a new custom script
RejectMsgOnReceptionError.cs to reject messages with a reception error, such as
interrupted faxes. Such messages are no longer imported to Kofax Capture. (318820)

or roles. (326059)
TC/LINK: Configurable Retries for Fatal Errors
It is now possible to configure retries even in fatal error situations. (324461)
In the registry value TOPCALL\FatalErrorRetryMappingFromTC you can configure break
codes for the following five 2-character fatal error codes:
▪ LI: Wrong address format for originator or passive recipient
▪ LH: Wrong address format for recipient
▪ LX: Other error
▪ LV: Message cannot be delivered to mail recipient
▪ M1: License limit reached
Kofax Communication Server Release Notes
9
About This Release
The registry key is created at TC/LINK startup. The default break code value of all the errors
is set to '0' ( "LV=0 LX=0 LH=0 LI=0 M1=0")
The break code value can be set from 1 to 5. Based on this value, the message retries are
initiated.
Changes in Behavior
This section contains information about the differences in behavior between Kofax
Communication Server 10.0.0 and previous releases.
Tandem Improvements
With the improved behavior, Tandem Server now should never go into the desynchronized
state at the expense of not running at all in certain error situations. This is the default and
the recommended setting. As a consequence of the new default, the primary master stopsautomatically if neither the secondary master nor the status agent can be reached. (318258)
The improvements can be deactivated using a new registry value HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/
SOFTWARE/Topcall/TCOSS/RunWithoutStatusAgent, which must be set identically on both
primary and secondary master:
▪ 0 - Never run without proper quorum (default value)
▪ 1 - Primary/Secondary master can run stand-alone without status agent
See Tandem Server Technical Manual for more details.
TC/LINK-FI Does Not Start - FilesBlackList Full
Read-only files can fill up the registry value FilesBlackList. As a result, TC/LINK-FI does
not start. (321020)
TC/LINK-FI now creates a registry value HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node
\TOPCALL\TCLINKFI\Options\In\ReadOnlyFlagRemove during its startup. Use this registry
value to configure whether read-only files are deleted.
▪ 1 - Delete read-only files (default value)
▪ 0 - Do not delete read-only files.
See TC/LINK-FI Technical Manual for more details.
Document Converter: Zero-Length Files
For the registry key KeepEmptyAttachments, the default value is now 0 - empty attachments
are silently ignored.
TCOSS: Outgoing Voice Calls Enabled
For Kofax Communication Server 10 installations, UIF/UFI configuration line 295, position 1
“Outgoing voice calls” is now enabled (01) by default. When upgrading to KCS 10, the value
is not modified. (318311)
10
See TCOSS Configuration Manual for more details.
Kofax Communication Server Release Notes
TCOSS: Maximum Number of Registrations
You can now configure the maximum number of registrations in TCOSS system
configuration, line 13, position 9 and 10. (363772)
If you use the default value 00 00, the higher of the following two values applies:
▪ Number of users + 2000
▪ disk space in GB * 5000, but not more than 500,000.

Chapter 2
Upgrade
This chapter contains additional information about upgrading to Kofax Communication
Server 9.2.0 or later. Please review these instructions carefully.
▪ Before upgrading to a new version of KCS, back up your system using KCS Backup (if you
own this tool).
▪ All KCS components installed on a single computer must be updated together; in the
following order:
Server and link components
1
Client components (TCfW)
2
▪ If you intend to use Unicode:
Update all your KCS computers to KCS 9.2.0 or later. You don't have to update all
1
computers simultaneously.
Enable Unicode on all servers using the instruction from the Kofax Communication
2
Server Unicode Installation Guide.
Once Unicode is enabled on TCOSS, KCS components older than 9.2.0 are no longer
allowed.
▪ If you are using TC/Web:
Update the computer with TCOSS first. Update all KCS components.
1
Update the computer with TC/Web and TC/LINK-SM. Update all KCS components.
2
Update any additional computers with KCS components.
3
▪ If you are not using TC/Web, link computers can be upgraded to KCS 10.0.0 even before
computer with TCOSS (assuming that TCOSS and link are not on the same computer). For
example, you can take advantage of updated TC/LINK-MX7 which supports Exchange
2013 and continue working with TCOSS from KCS 9.1.1.
▪ Running different KCS versions on two different computers is supported, however, it is not
recommended.
▪ If you are using KCS components from two (or more) releases, you will be asked to update
all your KCS components to the latest release (or roll back all KCS components to a single
earlier release) before you can request a Critical-On-Demand hotfix patch.
▪ A release downgrade (rollback to KCS 9.1.1 or earlier) is not possible once Unicode has
been activated in TC/Archive or TCOSS. Same applies to TC/Report and TC/Probe
databases.
Special configurations:
▪ Tandem configuration: The primary master and the secondary master must always use the
same version of KCS. Both must be switched to Unicode simultaneously.
▪ ASP configuration: Only the storage servers need to be updated and switched to Unicode.
The media servers which are running remote fax and telex line are not affected by the
Unicode feature. Both storage and media servers need to be updated in case that the
improved fax header line feature is used.
▪ LCR configuration: The TCOSS nodes of a least cost routing system can be updated one by
one to Unicode. Any mixture of Unicode and non-Unicode nodes using the same code page
Kofax Communication Server Release Notes
13
Upgrade
can work together in an LCR system, with the restrictions caused by conversion of Unicode
to the code page of the non-Unicode nodes. For full Unicode support all nodes of an LCR
system need to run Unicode.
