Microsoft Lync Integration
Kofax Communication Server can use the KCS Lync Link to connect to Microsoft Lync
Server in order to send notifications to Lync users when they receive a new message on KCS.
(273305)
The following use cases are supported:
▪ When the KCS user Rajesh receives a fax message, KCS Lync Link sends an instant
message to his Lync account. The fax message is not included.
▪ When the KCS user Penny receives an SMS, KCS Lync Link forwards her the message in an
instant message.
▪ KCS administrator Howard has an alert configured in his KCS user profile. When the alert
is triggered, KCS sends an alert message to Howard's KCS inbox and forwards the message
to his Lync account as an instant message, including the original message text.
The instant messages remain active until the Lync users receive them. The KCS Lync Link
does not accept any replies from the Lync users.

TC/LINK: Configurable Retries for Fatal Errors
It is now possible to configure retries even in fatal error situations. (324461)
In the registry value TOPCALL\FatalErrorRetryMappingFromTC you can configure break
codes for the following five 2-character fatal error codes:
▪ LI: Wrong address format for originator or passive recipient
▪ LH: Wrong address format for recipient
▪ LX: Other error
▪ LV: Message cannot be delivered to mail recipient
▪ M1: License limit reached
Kofax Communication Server Release Notes
9
About This Release
The registry key is created at TC/LINK startup. The default break code value of all the errors
is set to '0' ( "LV=0 LX=0 LH=0 LI=0 M1=0")
The break code value can be set from 1 to 5. Based on this value, the message retries are
initiated.
Changes in Behavior
This section contains information about the differences in behavior between Kofax
Communication Server 10.0.0 and previous releases.
Tandem Improvements
With the improved behavior, Tandem Server now should never go into the desynchronized
state at the expense of not running at all in certain error situations. This is the default and
the recommended setting. As a consequence of the new default, the primary master stopsautomatically if neither the secondary master nor the status agent can be reached. (318258)
The improvements can be deactivated using a new registry value HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/
SOFTWARE/Topcall/TCOSS/RunWithoutStatusAgent, which must be set identically on both
primary and secondary master:
▪ 0 - Never run without proper quorum (default value)
▪ 1 - Primary/Secondary master can run stand-alone without status agent
See Tandem Server Technical Manual for more details.
TC/LINK-FI Does Not Start - FilesBlackList Full
Read-only files can fill up the registry value FilesBlackList. As a result, TC/LINK-FI does
not start. (321020)
TC/LINK-FI now creates a registry value HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node
\TOPCALL\TCLINKFI\Options\In\ReadOnlyFlagRemove during its startup. Use this registry
value to configure whether read-only files are deleted.
▪ 1 - Delete read-only files (default value)
▪ 0 - Do not delete read-only files.
See TC/LINK-FI Technical Manual for more details.
Document Converter: Zero-Length Files
For the registry key KeepEmptyAttachments, the default value is now 0 - empty attachments
are silently ignored.
TCOSS: Outgoing Voice Calls Enabled
For Kofax Communication Server 10 installations, UIF/UFI configuration line 295, position 1
“Outgoing voice calls” is now enabled (01) by default. When upgrading to KCS 10, the value
is not modified. (318311)
10
See TCOSS Configuration Manual for more details.
Kofax Communication Server Release Notes
TCOSS: Maximum Number of Registrations
You can now configure the maximum number of registrations in TCOSS system
configuration, line 13, position 9 and 10. (363772)
If you use the default value 00 00, the higher of the following two values applies:
▪ Number of users + 2000
▪ disk space in GB * 5000, but not more than 500,000.

Chapter 2
Upgrade
This chapter contains additional information about upgrading to Kofax Communication
Server 9.2.0 or later. Please review these instructions carefully.
▪ Before upgrading to a new version of KCS, back up your system using KCS Backup (if you
own this tool).
▪ All KCS components installed on a single computer must be updated together; in the
following order:
Server and link components
1
Client components (TCfW)
2
▪ If you intend to use Unicode:
Update all your KCS computers to KCS 9.2.0 or later. You don't have to update all
1
computers simultaneously.
Enable Unicode on all servers using the instruction from the Kofax Communication
2
Server Unicode Installation Guide.
Once Unicode is enabled on TCOSS, KCS components older than 9.2.0 are no longer
allowed.
▪ If you are using TC/Web:
Update the computer with TCOSS first. Update all KCS components.
1
Update the computer with TC/Web and TC/LINK-SM. Update all KCS components.
2
Update any additional computers with KCS components.
3
▪ If you are not using TC/Web, link computers can be upgraded to KCS 10.0.0 even before
computer with TCOSS (assuming that TCOSS and link are not on the same computer). For
example, you can take advantage of updated TC/LINK-MX7 which supports Exchange
2013 and continue working with TCOSS from KCS 9.1.1.
▪ Running different KCS versions on two different computers is supported, however, it is not
recommended.
▪ If you are using KCS components from two (or more) releases, you will be asked to update
all your KCS components to the latest release (or roll back all KCS components to a single
earlier release) before you can request a Critical-On-Demand hotfix patch.
▪ A release downgrade (rollback to KCS 9.1.1 or earlier) is not possible once Unicode has
been activated in TC/Archive or TCOSS. Same applies to TC/Report and TC/Probe
databases.
Special configurations:
▪ Tandem configuration: The primary master and the secondary master must always use the
same version of KCS. Both must be switched to Unicode simultaneously.
▪ ASP configuration: Only the storage servers need to be updated and switched to Unicode.
The media servers which are running remote fax and telex line are not affected by the
Unicode feature. Both storage and media servers need to be updated in case that the
improved fax header line feature is used.
▪ LCR configuration: The TCOSS nodes of a least cost routing system can be updated one by
one to Unicode. Any mixture of Unicode and non-Unicode nodes using the same code page
Kofax Communication Server Release Notes
13
Upgrade
can work together in an LCR system, with the restrictions caused by conversion of Unicode
to the code page of the non-Unicode nodes. For full Unicode support all nodes of an LCR
system need to run Unicode.
14
Kofax Communication Server Release Notes
The following issues reported for a previous version of the product are fixed in this release.
Vulnerabilities in OpenSSL
▪ Heartbleed bug - Kofax Communication Server uses OpenSSL version vulnerable to the
Heartbleed bug. (323524)
▪ POODLE attack - Kofax Communication Server affected by POODLE issue, OpenSSL 1.0.1i
and lower. (540663)
New registry keys allow you to configure the behavior:
▪ SOAPPROC\SkipRootCertCheck (default 0)
▪ TCLSM\SslContextOptions (default 0x03000004)
▪ SOAPPROC\SslContextOptions (default 0x03000004)
See TC/SOAP Technical Manual and TC/LINK-SM / TC/LINK-OC Technical Manual for more
details.
Chapter 3
Resolved Issues
TC/LINK Does Not Resolve ++CVR Directive
After upgrading to Unicode, the TC/LINK no longer resolves ++CVR directives. (317900)
TC/LINK-SM: PDF Attachments With Umlauts in the Name
PDF attachments with Umlauts in the name are presented as .DAT files in the recipients
Inbox. (322167)
TC/LINK-SM can be configured to use RFC2231 encoding in order to understand such files
correctly. This behavior is controlled by a new registry key UseRfc2231:
▪ 1 - RFC2231 encoding is enabled
▪ 0 - RFC2231 encoding is disabled (default value)
TC/LINK-MX7: UTF-8 Message Appears Blank in TCfW
UTF-8 message via Link-MX7 appears in TCfW as a blank message. (SPR00178735)
A new registry key TCLINKMX7\Exchange\RemoveEmptyBody (REG_DWORD type) is added.
This registry key is used for deciding whether to delete the empty text body of a message
(that is, the message containing blank spaces).
▪ If RemoveEmptyBody is set to 1 (default value), and the message contains empty text; the
empty text gets deleted.
▪ If RemoveEmptyBody is set to 0, the empty text of the message is not deleted.
Kofax Communication Server Release Notes
15
Resolved Issues
TC/LINK-LN: Special Characters Not Shown Correctly
Special characters like vowel mutations are not shown correctly after update to KCS 9.2.
(SPR00178638)
A new registry key NOTES/DoNotConvertAttachmentsToLMBCS is added. If set to default,
LINK/LN will convert all text to LMBCS before sending it to Domino Server.
▪ 0 - Convert all text to LMBCS (default value)
▪ 1 - Do not convert
You can use the registry key NOTES/DumpInboundMessagesToFiles to debug the conversion
files.
See TC/LINK-LN Technical Manual for more details.
Symantec Tamper Protection Alert During KCS Client Setup
When you update Kofax Communication Server client software on a computer with Symantec
Endpoint Protection, a tamper protection alert might be displayed. (320486, SPR00104834)
TC/Perflog on Newer Operating Systems
On Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2012, the data collector set
(default=TCPERFLOG) and reports (TCPERFLOG_xxx) created with TC/Perflog are not
displayed in the Windows Performance Monitor. You can only open the log files from the
PERFLOG folder (default=c:\tcoss\perflog). (318347, SPR00093515)
TC/LINK-LN: Problem With Inbound Text Based Messages
TC/LINK-LN Error CLNSendDoc::putAttachment: Cannot put text when sending text
messages to Lotus Notes. (317867)
When TCLINKLN fails to put the message body text, it retries with a new temp file that
contains same message body text. If it again fails and DumpFailedBodyText registry key is
enabled, failed message body text is backed-up for troubleshooting. Following new registry
keys are added under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\TOPCALL\TCLINKLN
\NOTES:
▪ RestartOnNotesApiFailure - If set to 1, TCLINKLN instance will restart on
MailAddMessageBodyTextExt failure. Default value is 0.
▪ LineDelimiter - If set to 0, line delimiter for text attachments is "\r\n\x1a" otherwise "\r
\n". Default value is 0.
▪ SetNLSInfoNull - If set to 1, NLS_PINFO structure is set NULL when text attachment is
converted to LMBCS. Default value is 0.
▪ DumpFailedBodyText - If set to 1, failed mail body text is dumped to a file for
troubleshooting. Default value is 0.
16
Kofax Communication Server Release Notes
TC/LINK-MD: UCP with Sonera Content Gateway and Listener
Kofax Communication Server now supports UCP with Sonera Content Gateway and Listener
for incoming SMS via TOPS SMSC client .NET 6.0.29. The TOPS SDK has to be installed
separately and needs a workstation license at the time of installing TOPS. (319380)
See TC/LINK-MD Technical Manual for more details.
Fax over IP: SIP Calls Can Fail with Large Messages
FoIP SIP calls via TCP or TLS can fail if SIP messages are received in multiple network
packets. In such case, KCS FoIP processes an incomplete SIP message. The following or
similar errors are written to the FoIP trace file (319115, SPR00176917):
Error reading SIP message, Sip2XML read error, bad SIP message
TC/LINK-MQ: Incompatible Codepage
CCSID of XML messages sent from KCS to IBM WebSphere MQ in XML format is always
1208. (367033)
Resolved Issues
The CCSID is now configurable in a new registry value TCLINKMQ\Options\Out
\OverrideXmlOutCodePage. When set to 1, the CCSID is set to the value of TCLINKMQ
\General\PCCodePage. Otherwise, the CCSID is set to 1208. Default value is 0.
When set to 1, the CCSID is set to the value of TOPCALL\TCLINKMQ\General\PCCodePage.
Otherwise, the CCSID is set to 1208. Default value is 0.
TC/LINK-SI: Missing Attachments in SAP
Disk caching on shared disk may result in lost attachments. (347684)
Copying to the shared disk is now more robust. In addition, TC/LINK-SI now creates a
new registry value at link startup: SAP\CopyWaitSeconds. If the copied file cannot be found
immediately after copying, TC/LINK-SI now retries to access the file after the number of
seconds specified in the new registry value. The default is 180 seconds.
Fax over IP: RFC3264 Compliance
KCS Fax over IP is not fully compliant with the IETF standard RFC 3264. A new configuration
parameter “SIP/Add inactive SDP medias” has been added to activate the RFC 2327
compliant behavior. (343197)
Note Full compliance is disabled by default. Calls to some VoIP devices do not work if the
parameter is activated.

Resolved Issues
Fax over IP: Message Wait Indication and Avaya
Although both Avaya Communication Manager and KCS Fax over IP support message wait
indication signaling using the SIP NOTIFY method, message wait indication does not work.

Kofax Communication Server Release Notes
Known Issues
This section contains information about potential issues that you could encounter while using
Kofax Communication Server.
TC/Web: Message Count Missing in Inbox / Outbox
TC/Web no longer displays the message count if you filter messages with the status “New
and Read”. (319699)
TC/Web: Sorting in Recipient and User Tool
In the Recipient and User tools, it is no longer possible to sort entries by clicking a column
header. (545225)
Workaround: Sort the entries by selecting Ascending or Descending from the column header
menu.
Chapter 4
KCS EasyConfig Update
If you upgrade an older KCS deployed via EasyConfig to the latest release, you must start the
KCS EasyConfig tool and redeploy the configuration. (SPR00104109)
Upgrade to the latest KCS release by starting EasySetup.exe from the installation ISO.
1
Start the KCS EasyConfig tool from the Kofax Communication Server program group
2
on the Windows Start menu. EasyConfig informs you that the current configuration has
been modified.
Click Deploy.
3
Select to deploy All. Click OK. Wait until the configuration is updated.
4
Perform the actions listed in the deployment log (for example, you might need to restart
5
certain KCS components). Click Close.
Small Fonts in Fax RTF Covers on Windows Server 2012 R2
When converting fax messages with RTF cover sheets, the font in the cover sheet is very small
after conversion on Windows Server 2012 R2 operating system. (318925)
Workaround: Install Windows update KB2930275.
TCOSS: Downgrade to KCS 9.2.0
WConfig of KCS 9.2.0 cannot install a configuration locally to a file structure, which already
was used with KCS 10.0.0 or later. The layout of the config file ASYSCONFCCCC changed.
Kofax Communication Server Release Notes
27
Known Issues
As a consequence, a downgrade from KCS 10.0 to KCS 9.2 is not possible without additional
actions. (551344)
Workaround: Delete the file +TECH/ASYSCONFCCCC:
Open a command prompt on the KCS server.
1
Go to C:\TCOSS\SYSTEM\.
2
Run the command tcdel +TECH/ASYSCONFCCCC.
3
Reply is: “1 Files deleted, 441 Bytes freed”.
Close the command prompt.
4
Document Conversion: Text Alternative Not Unicode
When you are using TWS or TC/LINK document conversion for Word or Excel documents
with Unicode characters, the text alternative is not Unicode. (318605, SPR00121081)
EasyConfig: Service Name Length Not Restricted
In EasyConfig, if you are using non-English characters, such as Japanese symbols, it is
possible to configure longer service names than what can be saved correctly. (318364,
SPR00113538)
Note The service names can be only 8 bytes long. Japanese symbols require up to 3 bytes per
symbol, therefore, only 2 symbols are possible.
TCfW: Closing Application While Minimized
Closing the TCfW Communication Server Client from the taskbar while the application
window is minimized can last multiple seconds. (320366, SPR00176265)
Workaround: Close TCfW while its window is displayed to avoid the delay.
TCfW: Erratic Mouse Scrolling
Using the mouse wheel to scroll through the inbox or outbox of TCfW Communication Server
Client produces erratic results. (320536, SPR00176327)
Workaround: Use the scroll bar or keyboard for scrolling.
TCfW: Image Preview and Right-To-Left Script
In TCfW, the image preview is always aligned to the left. Text blocks which have right-to-left
order activated correctly align to the right side in text mode. However, the image preview is
not correct, the text blocks align to the left. (320628, SPR00122502)

TCfW: Opening RTF Attachments Occasionally Fails
Opening RTF attachments in TCfW sometimes fails with the error: The process cannot
access the file because it is being used by another process. Another attempt to
open the attachment succeeds without any errors. (320488, SPR00120108)
Workaround: Do not use Microsoft OLE control for displaying and editing attachments.
Add the extension RTF to the registry value HKxx\SOFTWARE\TOPCALL\TCFW\WorkStation
\ShellExecuteExtensions.
TCfW: PDF Attachments on Windows 8
In TCfW Communication Server Client installed on Windows 8, by default, PDF attachments
are opened with the built-in PDF viewer. Closing the PDF document does not close the OLE
link of the message.
Workaround: Use an external PDF viewer, not the built-in one.
TC/LINK-LN: Some Messages Cannot Be Processed
Known Issues
With Lotus Notes client software older than release 8.5.3, some messages cannot be processed
by TC/LINK-LN. Installing Lotus Notes client 8.5.3 on the TC/LINK computer solves the
problem. (318439, SPR00092298)
For more information, see:
▪ TC/LINK-LN Technical Manual, version 2.07.00 edition 14
Chapter Hints / Troubleshooting - Some Messages Cannot be Processed
Japanese and Other Characters Rotated
Japanese, Chinese, and other characters may appear rotated by 90 degrees. (319190,
SPR00113545)
Workaround: Fonts beginning with the at sign (@), such as @Arial Unicode MS, support
vertical writing of certain languages. Use fonts without the at sign, such as Arial Unicode MS.
Use Crystal Reports 11 or later.
KCS Client Applications Fail to Start After Update
If you update only KCS client applications on a computer that also includes KCS server
components, the client software fails to start because of obsolete shared modules. (320420,
SPR00176011)
Mixing components from the latest and older KCS releases on one computer is not supported.
Workaround: Update all KCS components to the latest release. Update server components
before updating the client applications.
