Introduction
This document contains the release notes for the Release Script for FileNet Panagon Content
Services, which supports Ascent Capture 7.0 as well as Kofax Capture 8.0, 9.0, and 10.0.
This export connector supports FileNet Content Services 5.2, FileNet Content Services 5.3, FileNet
Content Services 5.4, and FileNet Content Services 5.5. This release script copies document
images, OCR full text files, PDF documents, and eDocuments to permanent storage and writes
index data to a database using the Panagon Desktop Professional application programming
interface (API).
Please read these notes carefully as they contain information not included in the printed
documentation or online Help.
Additional Documentation
These release notes are a supplement to the following:
For more information about FileNet Content Services or other FileNet products, contact your

Administration and Release Workstations – Additional Requirements
The Ascent Capture Administration and Release workstations must have the following
components installed:
• Ascent Capture 7.0 or higher
• Panagon IDM Desktop 3.2a with Patch 007 (IDM Desktop for viewing) or FileNet IDM
he source code for the Release Script for FileNet Panagon Content Services is provided and it is
located on the Ascent Capture Release Script installation CD. The source code can be opened,
edited, and compiled in Visual Basic 6.0 with Service Pack 6.
X To use the modified release script
1Install the FileNet Content Services release script. Refer to Installing the Release Script on
page 10 for the installation instructions. When you install the FileNet Content Services
release script, you will install the required components referenced in the source code.
2Open and compile the FileNet Content Services source code in Visual Basic.
3Copy the CSRel5_v7.dll to the installation directory (for example, C:\Program
Files\Ascent\CAP\FileNet\CSRel5_v7.dll). When you are prompted to replace the
existing file, select “Yes.” You will need to repeat this procedure on each Administration
and Release workstation that will be using the Documentum release script.
Note In order to successfully modify and compile the release script, development must occur on a
workstation with the appropriate versions of Ascent Capture, CAPTools, and the FileNet Content
Services release script previously installed. To use the modified release script, you must replace
the FileNet Content Services release script CSRel5_v7.dll with the modified version on the client
workstation. If you receive an access denied error, you will need to close the Administration
module.
Refer to the documentation that came with your FileNet Content Services product and Visual
Basic documentation for assistance.
This section contains information about features provided with the Release Script for FileNet
Panagon Content Services.
Ascent Capture Values / Panagon Attributes
The Release Script for FileNet Panagon Content Services provides an easy-to-use interface for
linking Ascent Capture Ascent Values to Panagon document attributes and folder attributes.
Examples of Ascent Values include Document Index fields, Folder Index fields, Batch fields,
Ascent Capture Values, and Text Constants. The names of “required" Panagon attributes within a
document class or folder class are marked with an asterisk (*), giving you a visual indicator that
certain fields must be linked.
Ascent Capture Value {Document GUID}
The Ascent Capture Value {Document GUID} is a new value that can be used for index fields and
release values. The Ascent Capture Value is a type of document ID that is unique across the
central site and all remote sites that comprise an Ascent Capture installation. This Document
GUID is the concatenation of the Batch GUID and the document ID number. For example, a Batch
GUID of {D3C58EE2-5627-443b-BBFA-EE7A5790482A}, and a document ID of 123 will yield
{D3C58EE2-5627-443b-BBFA-EE7A5790482A} 123 as the Document GUID.
Image Support
This release script supports the following file formats/compression formats:
• Multipage TIFF with Group 3, Group 3/2D, and Group 4 Compression
• Multipage TIFF with JPEG Compression
• Multipage TIFF — Uncompressed Image Format
•Kofax PDF
•Adobe PDF from TIFF
• Adobe PDF from JPEG
Kofax PDF Support
With the Release Script for FileNet Panagon Content Services, you can release Kofax PDF
documents into your FileNet Content Services system. Kofax PDF is bundled with Ascent Capture
and does not require additional software implementation. Kofax PDF documents can be saved in
the following output types:
• PDF Image Only
•PDF Image + Text
Refer to Kofax PDF Options on page 8 for more information about Kofax PDF documents.
The Release Script for FileNet Panagon Content Services supports releasing Adobe Acrobat
Capture PDF documents into your FileNet Content Services system. The software is provided by
Adobe Acrobat Capture and is not included with the Ascent Capture product. To release Adobe
PDF documents, you must install the Adobe® Acrobat Capture® 3.0 Clustered or Personal
Edition software.
Refer to Adobe Acrobat Capture Options on page 8 for more information about Adobe Acrobat
Capture PDF documents.
OCR Full Text Support
With the Release Script FileNet Panagon Content Services, you can release documents processed
through the Ascent Capture OCR Full Text module into your FileNet Content Services system.
Refer to OCR Full Text Options on page 7 for more information about OCR full text files.
eDocument Support
With the Release Script for FileNet Panagon Content Services, you do not need to limit your
batches to image files with the FileNet Content Services release script. eDocuments are supported
for release into FileNet Content Services.
Document Storage Support
With the FileNet Content Services release script, you can select an existing FileNet Content
Services folder or create new folders for release. You can use Ascent Values to specify the folder
name.
Multiple Release Support
The Ascent Capture multiple release feature allows you to assign multiple release scripts to a
document class, and this release script can be used in conjunction with that feature.
You can also provide a unique name for your release script. This name is used to refer to your
script in the Release Scripts dialog box. The field is not required, but may help you keep track of
your scripts when using the Ascent Capture multiple release feature.
Refer to your Ascent Capture online help for more information about the multiple release feature
(Ascent Capture online help keyword: Multiple release > about).
Online Help Available for Release Setup
The Release Script for FileNet Panagon Content Services online help is installed with your release
script. It is available from the Administration module when you are setting up your release script.
You can click the Help button from the Release Script for FileNet Panagon Content Services 5.2-5.4
— Release Setup dialog box to display help information about release options.
This section contains additional information about the Release Script for FileNet Panagon Content
Services.
Unsupported Ascent Capture Features
SecurityBoost
This release script does not support the Ascent Capture SecurityBoost feature. The SecurityBoost
feature allows you to enhance Ascent Capture security for systems using Microsoft Windows XP.
If security is an issue, run the release script on a protected machine. (SPR 00009904)
If the SecurityBoost feature is enabled for Ascent Capture on your Microsoft Windows XP
workstation, you will need to bypass it. Use the following procedure to bypass the SecurityBoost
feature.
X To bypass the SecurityBoost feature
1From the Windows taskbar, select Start | Run.
2In the text box, enter release.exe /NoBoost (for example, "C:\Program
Files\Ascent\Bin\release.exe"/NoBoost).
3Click OK.
Refer to your Ascent Capture online help for more information about the SecurityBoost feature.
(Ascent Capture online help keyword: SecurityBoost > about)
File Name Retention
This release script does not support file name retention. Therefore, the original imported file name
will not be retained and the default numeric name will be used.
Tip The Ascent Capture Value “{First Page Original File Name}” allows you to retain the original
file name for the first page of a document. This value can be linked to Panagon document class
attributes that support Ascent Values. Notice that the Panagon document class attribute type must
be able to accept all the characters that are part of the original file name and must not exceed the
defined length or release may fail.
Multiple Values
This release script supports repeating values, which are properties that contain multiple values.
When entering multiple values for the multi-value field, you must use the comma (,) delimiter
without any spaces between the entries to separate the values (for example, apple, orange, pear).
The comma will not exist in the final name.
Refer to Multi-value Field Limitations on page 22 for information about known problems.
The user specified for the release script must have security permissions to add and delete folders.
Deletion rights are needed to remove release script created folders, OCR full text files, and
secondary images if release fails. To create a special group outside of Administration that has
security to delete folders, do the following:
1Log on to a FileNet Content Services Library as a System Administrator.
2Right click on the Library Node to display the Properties Context Menu.
3Using the Properties tab, locate the “Min Item Delete Access Level” property.
4Select “Owner.”
Note For more information, refer to the documentation that came with your FileNet Content
Services product.
Multiple Folders With Same Name
If multiple folders with the same name are found during release, the documents will be stored in
the FileNet Content Services folder with the lowest object ID.
{Index Operator’s Station ID} Ascent Capture Value
The Ascent Capture Value {Index Operator’s Station ID} has been deprecated, and replaced by
{Validation Operator’s Station ID}. It is strongly recommended that you use {Validation
Operator’s Station ID} instead.

Adobe Acrobat Capture Options
The Release Script for FileNet Panagon Content Services supports Adobe Acrobat Capture. This
section contains information related to using Adobe Acrobat Capture for your Adobe PDF
documents.
For additional details about creating Adobe Acrobat Capture PDF documents, refer to the
documentation that came with your Adobe Acrobat Capture product.
Operating System Requirements for Ascent Capture
If you are using Adobe Acrobat Capture to release Adobe PDF documents, your Ascent Capture
Administration and Release workstations must be running on Windows XP or Windows 2000
computers. Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows NT are not supported operating systems for
Ascent Capture.
Adobe Acrobat Capture and the Ascent Capture Release Workstation Installations
During the conversion process, communication must occur between Adobe Acrobat Capture and
the Ascent Capture Release module. However, due to timing conflicts, Adobe Acrobat Capture
and Ascent Capture cannot be run at the same time on a workstation. Therefore, Adobe Acrobat
Capture and Ascent Capture must be installed on separate workstations on the same LAN.
For complete image conversion for Formatted Text & Graphics or Searchable Image page content,
a basic Adobe Acrobat Capture workflow needs to contain at least four steps, in the following
order:
1Capture Image
2Bind Pages
3Export to PDF
4Store File (PDF)
For complete image conversion for Image Only page content, the Adobe Acrobat Capture
workflow needs to be called “PDF Image Only” and contain at least three steps, in the following
order:
1Convert Image to PDF
2Combine PDFs
3Store File (PDF)
Note When creating workflows, do not include manual steps such as Quick Fix Page, Review
Document, and Zone Images. If you do, Adobe Acrobat Capture will stop running when it
encounters any of these steps and require manual processing by the user. This kind of workflow is
not suitable for Ascent Capture Release because it disrupts the automated process of releasing
Adobe PDF documents.
Multipage TIFFs
If you are releasing multipage TIFFs, you must use the Split Multipage TIF step in your Adobe
Acrobat Capture workflow.
Releasing from Multiple Ascent Capture Standalone Workstations
If you use multiple Ascent Capture standalone workstations and one Adobe Acrobat Capture hub,
you must create unique Adobe Acrobat Capture “workflows” and “watched folders” for each
Ascent Capture standalone workstation. This is because Adobe Acrobat Capture uses Ascent
Capture document IDs for its document naming scheme. Since standalone Ascent Capture
document IDs may not be unique, the document names could conflict in Adobe Acrobat Capture
and cause the release process to fail.
Re-releasing Documents in Error
If an Adobe Acrobat Capture error occurs during the release process, you must clear your Adobe
Acrobat Capture finished documents and cancel any hung documents before re-releasing the
same documents in Ascent Capture.
Invalid Watched Folders
If you attempt to release documents to an invalid Adobe Acrobat Capture watched folder, the
documents will be rejected. To cancel the release, click Cancel on the Ascent Capture PDF Release
dialog box displayed at the Release workstation. The Cancel button will automatically cancel the
Adobe Acrobat Capture documents.
You can install the Release Script for FileNet Panagon Content Services on an Ascent Capture
client workstation or standalone workstation.
Important Note About Installation
To install the Release Script for FileNet Panagon Content Services you must have Windows
administrator privileges. If you do not have administrator privileges and install this release script,
you may receive error messages and several of the files may not install correctly.
Before you install the Release Script for FileNet Panagon Content Services, refer to System Requirements on page 2 for information about installation requirements.

the FileNet Content Services release script, you can upgrade to the Release Script for FileNet
Panagon Content Services, if desired. All release setup settings will be retained.
Important Note About Upgrade
To upgrade to the Release Script for FileNet Panagon Content Services you must have Windows
administrator privileges. If you do not have administrator privileges and upgrade this release
script, you may receive error messages and several of the files may not upgrade correctly.
Warning You cannot upgrade from version 4.0 of the FileNet Content Services release script.
Before you install the Release Script for FileNet Panagon Content Services, refer to System Requirements on page 2 for information about installation requirements.
Upgrading From Version 5.0 of the FileNet Content Services Release Script
We recommend that you upgrade to version 6.0 of the FileNet Content Services release script first.
Then, upgrade to Release Script for FileNet Panagon Content Services. Alternatively, you can
uninstall version 5.0 of the FileNet Content Services release script. In some cases, you may need to
re-enter your release setup settings. If you do, you may want to take notes on the release setup
settings defined for your current version of the release script before you install version 7.0. An
easy way to do this is to capture and save screen shots of the release setup settings.

Releasing Batches
With the Release Script for FileNet Panagon Content Services, the Ascent Capture Release module
will process batches based on the settings of the associated batch classes. The Release module is
responsible for releasing documents, as well as index data using the attributes defined during
release setup.
The Ascent Capture Release module usually runs unattended on a Windows workstation,
periodically polling the Release module for available batches. The Release module may be
configured to run during off-hours to avoid any impact to the throughput of Ascent Capture and/
or the network system. To activate the Release module, select Start | Programs | Ascent Capture
| Release. All batches queued for release will be released after initiation of the Release module.
Note Refer to your Ascent Capture online help for more information about configuring the

Multi-value Field Limitations
The following sections explain the multi-value field limitations.
Using Multi-value Fields with Text Constants
When using text constants to specify multi-value fields in Release Setup, the maximum number of
characters allowed by FileNet for each value is used by Ascent Capture to validate the maximum
number of characters allowed for the entire multi-value field. For example, if you plan to use a
multi-value field containing four values, each with a maximum length of 5 characters, Ascent
Capture will error if you use more than 5 characters for the entire multi-value field length.
Workaround: Increase the maximum number of characters allowed for your multi-value field in
FileNet Content Services.
Using Multi-value Fields with Date/Time, Integer, and IntegerString Data Types
The FileNet Content Services release script does not support linking multiple fields with the Date/
Time, Integer, and IntegerString data types. (SPR 00009884)
If you are linking a text constant to a FileNet Content Services integer type property, the text
constant cannot be more than 10 digits in length. If the text constant is longer than 10 digits, the
release script will fail. (SPR 21215)
Current Logged On Panagon User May Override Release Script User
If you log on to the release script and you already have a FileNet Content Services session
running, you are normally prompted to log off the current FileNet Content Services session.
Occasionally, the release script gets in a state where it does not prompt you that another FileNet
Content Services session exists. In this case, the release script will use the original client session for
your release script regardless of what you enter in the Ascent Capture FileNet Login dialog box. If
the users entered were different, security permission problems may occur during release.
(SPR 25358)
Workaround: Do not log on to the IDM desktop and release script simultaneously. If you do, log
out of the IDM desktop, shut down Ascent Capture and restart it. Then, log back into the release
script.
Running the Release Module as a Service
If you are running the Release module as a service and have specified a mapped drive for your
Adobe configuration (hub, watched folder, and release working directory), the release will fail
with the following error message. (SPR 30581)
Acrobat Capture workflow does not exist.
Workaround: Specify a UNC path for your Adobe hub, Adobe watched folder, and Adobe release
working directory.
Releasing Hidden Files Is Not Supported
If you attempt to release hidden files, you will receive the following error message. (SPR 30546)
Can’t get primary PDF file name.
Workaround: Remove the hidden files from the batch. In Windows Explorer, the hidden file’s
icon will have a dimmed appearance.
Releasing Documents with 0 Bytes
At release, your document files must be larger than 0 bytes or the release will fail with the
following error message. (SPR 00009903)
An empty version file cannot be indexed.
Workaround: Make certain that you do not create batches that contain 0 byte files.
If you are using the Kofax Advanced OCR Full Text engine and releasing only eDocuments, the
engine will automatically create a 0 byte OCR full text file. The release will fail with the following
error message. (SPR 00009910)
An empty version file cannot be indexed.
Workaround: Do not use the Kofax Advanced OCR Full Text engine when releasing only
eDocuments. If you release eDocuments with additional image file formats, the release will not
fail.
Releasing eDocuments and Adobe PDF as Secondary Image
When releasing eDocuments and Adobe PDF documents as secondary images the batch may
occasionally fail with the following error message. (SPR 00009902)
Input file not found.
Workaround: Unreject your batch in the Ascent Capture Quality Control queue and process the
batch again to release it.
Using Different Operating Systems
If you configure a release script that uses a root level folder for release and then you attempt to
open the release setup and save changes from an operating system different from the original,
your release setup may fail with the following error message. (SPR 00009894)
Run-time error ‘35601’ Element not found.
Workaround: Open release setup with the same operating system.
Deleting a Folder with the Context Menu Button
If you attempt to delete a folder on the Storage Settings tab using the Delete option provided by
the right mouse button (right-click), release setup will fail with the following error message.
(SPR 32319)
Run-time error ‘35605’ This item’s control has been deleted.
You will need to restart the Administration module to restore Ascent Capture and the release
script.
Workaround: Use the Delete button to delete your folder.
