Notes:

 This device is a tablet with a focus on the reading experience.
 This device does not have 3G or 4G capabilities, and only supports wireless LAN networks

(WLAN).

Turning your Kobo device on & off

To turn your Kobo device on:

 Pull the red power slider button briefly to the right.

To turn your Kobo device off:

Pull the red power slider button to the right for until a dialog box appears. 1.
Tap Power Off. 2.

A Power off window appears.

Tap OK to turn off your Kobo device 3.

Using Wi Fi

Connecting to a Wi Fi network

Note: This device does not have 3G or 4G capabilities, and only supports wireless LAN networks (WLAN).

You can connect to a Wi Fi network in two ways. First, you can follow the Setup Wizard, which appears
when you first turn on your device, and when you factory reset your device.

Second, you can manually join a wireless network through the Android operating system.

To join a Wi Fi network via Android:

Tap the Home icon at the bottom of the screen to return to your Home Dashboard. 1.
Put your finger at the top right of the screen and swipe down until the Android notification shade 2.

appears.

Tap the Quick Settings icon. 3.

The Android settings page will appear.

If required, tap the slider button beside Wi Fi at the top left of the screen to turn on Wi Fi. 4.
Tap Wi-Fi Settings to view a list of nearby Wi Fi networks. 5.
Tap the network you want to join. 6.
Tap Connect. 7.

Notes:

 The Kobo device scans for available Wi Fi networks and displays the names of the networks. A

lock icon indicates the network is secure, and requires a password.

 If required, enter in the Wi Fi network’s user name (Identity) and password, then tap Connect.
 If your Kobo device finds a network that you connected to previously, it automatically reconnects to

it.

Tip: If you do not require Internet access for a long period, turn off Wi Fi to conserve battery power.

Disable Wi Fi (Airplane Mode)

Disabling Wi Fi helps your battery charge last longer, and is also required on airplanes and some areas of
hospitals. When you disable Wi Fi, your Kobo device can no longer connect to any wireless networks
(including 3G or 4G networks used by smartphones), which is also known as airplane mode.

To disable Wi Fi:

Press the Home button to return to your Home Tapestry. 1.

Put your finger at the top right of the screen and swipe down until the Android notification shade 2.

appears.

Tap the Airplane mode option. 3.

Wi Fi on the Kobo device is disabled.

Note: You’ll need to turn off Airplane mode when you wish to connect to a Wi Fi network again.

Using a Micro-SD card with your Kobo device

You can use a Micro-SD card with your Kobo device to increase memory storage space, to add or store
content you’ve collected, or to transfer content from your Kobo device to another device.

The Micro-SD card slot is located on the top left edge of your Kobo device, as shown:

When you insert a Micro-SD card you’ll be able to add contents on the card to your Kobo device (depending
on what type of content it contains), and move or copy contents on your Kobo device to the card. When you
want to remove the SD card, you must safely eject it using the Android settings before you physically
remove the card.

To insert a Micro-SD card:

Gently pull up the Micro-SD card slot cover. 1.

Note: You may need to use the corner of a credit card to pull the slot cover up.

Insert the Micro-SD card until it lightly clicks into place. 2.

To eject a Micro-SD card:

Tap the Home icon at the bottom of the screen to return to your Home Dashboard. 1.
Put your finger at the top right of the screen and swipe down until the Android notification shade 2.

appears.

Tap the Quick Settings icon. 3.

The Android settings page will appear.

Tap Storage. 4.

The Storage settings page will appear.

Swipe up on the screen until you see the option Unmount SD card. 5.
Tap Unmount SD card. 6.
Tap OK to confirm you wish to remove the SD card. 7.
Gently pull up the Micro-SD card slot cover. 8.
Press down on the Micro-SD card until it lightly clicks and pops up. 9.

Remove the Micro-SD card. 10.

Using the Camera on your Kobo device

You can use a camera on your Kobo device to take pictures, shoot video, or interact with your friends on the
Internet with apps such as Skype.

To use the built-in camera, simply open the app that you’d like to use it with. The camera will activate
automatically when you use the app to do something that uses the camera.

Using the Speaker on your Kobo device

You can use the speaker on your Kobo device to listen to music, hear your friends over the Internet with an
app such as Skype, or listen to sound on a video.

To use the built-in speaker, simply open the app that you’d like to use it with. The speaker will activate
automatically when you use the app to do something that uses it.

Using Headphones with your Kobo device

You can use headphones with your Kobo device to listen to music, hear your friends over the Internet with
an app such as Skype, or listen to sound on a video.

To use headphones with your Kobo device:

Plug your headphones into the headphone jack on the left edge of your Kobo device (see the 1.

image above).

Open the app that you’d like to use them with. The headphones will activate automatically when 2.

you use the app to open an item that includes sound.

Connecting over USB

Using your Kobo device as an external storage device

You can connect your Kobo device to a computer as a storage device, similar to a USB thumb drive. When
it’s connected, you can drag and drop content from your desktop to your Kobo device.

To copy content from your desktop to your Kobo device:

Connect the included USB cable to the USB slot on the bottom of the Kobo device (see the image 1.

above).

Connect the other end of the USB cable into your computer’s USB port. 2.
Find your Kobo device: 3.

 On PC’s, locate the name of your Kobo device in your computer’s connected devices list.
 On MAC’s, launch Android File Transfer.

Drag the content you want to add into the Kobo device folder. 4.

Note: If you copy EPUB files to your Kobo device, you can import them into your Library on your Kobo
device. For details, please see the Kobo device User Guide.

Charging your Kobo device

The battery indicator on the top right corner of the screen indicates how much battery life you have left.
Charge your Kobo device if the batteries are low.

To charge your Kobo device:

Connect the included Micro-USB cable to the micro USB port on the side of the Kobo device (see 1.

image above).

Connect the other end of the Micro-USB cable to a USB port on your computer. 2.
Allow your Kobo device to charge for 8 hours for a full charge. 3.

Using Bluetooth

Your Kobo device includes a Bluetooth transmitter, which lets you connect to other Bluetooth-enabled
devices. Bluetooth connections can be made in two ways; by turning on the connect option for your Kobo
device and tapping it on the other Bluetooth-enabled device, or by turning on the connect option and
manually connecting with the other device using a PIN.

To turn on the Bluetooth transmitter on your Kobo device:

Tap the Home icon at the bottom of the screen to return to your Home Dashboard. 1.
Put your finger at the top right of the screen and swipe down until the Android notification shade 2.

appears.

Tap the Quick Settings icon. 3.

The Android settings page will appear.

Tap Bluetooth. 4.
Tap the name of your Kobo device. 5.

To connect (also known as pairing) your Kobo device with another Bluetooth-enabled device:

Tap the Home icon at the bottom of the screen to return to your Home Dashboard. 1.
Put your finger at the top right of the screen and swipe down until the Android notification shade 2.

appears.

Tap the Quick Settings icon. 3.

The Android settings page will appear.

Tap Bluetooth. 4.
Tap Search for Devices at the top right of the screen. 5.
Tap the device you wish to pair with your Kobo device. 6.

When the other device has confirmed it will pair, you will see a prompt on your Kobo device.

Tap OK to confirm you are pairing with the correct device. 7.

To disconnect (also known as unpairing) your Kobo device with another Bluetooth-enabled device:

Tap the Home icon at the bottom of the screen to return to your Home Dashboard. 1.
Put your finger at the top right of the screen and swipe down until the Android notification shade 2.

Tap the Quick Settings icon. 3.

The Android settings page will appear.

Tap Bluetooth. 4.

Tap the settings icon at the right of the device you want to disconnect (unpair). 5.

The Bluetooth settings options will appear.

Tap Unpair. 6.

Using the Micro HDMI output

Your Kobo device includes a Micro HDMI pot, which lets you connect HDMI-enabled devices like television
sets. You can use your Kobo device to output HDMI-compatible images like streaming TV shows. You’ll
need to use a mico-HDMI (Type D) connector with your Kobo device.

Note: Outputting HDMI content from your Kobo device can drain your Kobo device battery fairly quickly.

To send HDMI output from your Kobo device:

Plug a Micro-HDMI connector into the Micro-HDMI port on the left edge of your Kobo device (see 1.

the image above).

Connect the other end of the Micro-HDMI cable to the device you’d like to stream HDMI content to, 2.

If required, follow the prompts on the external device to enable HDMI streaming. 3.

Recycling Information

Other Safety Information

1. The RF signals generated by your device can cause interference with or malfunction to medical devices
such as pacemakers or hearing aids, including the potential for serious injury. If you have any concerns
about using your Kobo device in proximity to any medical devices, please consult the manufacturer of the
medical device in question.

2. Certain locations, such as health care facilities or construction sites, may be put at risk when radio
frequency (RF) signals are generated, including through use of the wireless functionality on your device. If
you see signs and other material requesting that two-way radios or cellular phones should be turned off,
please turn off the wireless connection of your device in these areas.

3. This Kobo device has been tested to comply with specific absorption rate (SAR) limits as a body worn
device. The maximum allowable level for the European Union is 2.0 W/kg and operation of this device is
below that value. To reduce RF exposure, keep your device at a separation distance of 1.5cm from your
body, especially when transmitting wireless data. Cases with metal parts may change the RF performance
of the device, including its compliance with RF exposure guidelines, in a manner that has not been tested or
certified.

4. Do not open or attempt to repair your device, including repair or replacement of the lithium ion battery in
this device; contact Kobo Support for any repair and/or battery-related safety concerns.

5. It is recommended to only use Kobo adapters or chargers that are specifically designed or approved for
your Kobo device. Do not use your adapter if the cord or plug is damaged.

6. Avoid exposing your device to fire and other direct heat, including hair dryers and microwave ovens and
other appliances.

7. As this device contains small components that could lead to a choking hazard for small children, Kobo
recommends that you do not open the device for any reason, including repair.

8. Avoid storing your device in temperatures lower than -10° and higher than 60° C (14° to 140° F).
Operation of the device should occur in temperatures between 0° and 45° C (32° to 113° F). Dramatic
changes in temperature or humidity may affect the functioning of the device due to the formation of
condensation.

9. Do not force objects into your device ports (USB port), connections or buttons.
If a connector does not easily fit, then it may not be a match for this device.

10. Do not operate the device when driving and do not store your device in a location that is covering an
airbag location. Airbags erupt with incredible force and could cause injury or damage if your device or its
accessories are in the path of the expected airbag’s inflation area.

11. During travel on an airplane, follow all instructions provided by your flight operator. Your Kobo device
wireless “Wi-Fi” on/off function available in your device settings.

12. Some individuals may be susceptible to seizures, blackouts, and eyestrain when operating devices with
flashing lights or similar light patterns. If you have experienced any of these symptoms or you have any
concerns about this issue, please consult a physician. It should be noted that this may occur even if you
have not had a prior occurrence.

13. Please use headphones at a safe level or permanent hearing loss may occur if headphones are used at
a high level.
