Kobo Arc User Guide Version 2

Anatomy of your Kobo Arc
Part Use this to…
A Camera Take pictures or video
B On/Off Turn your Kobo Arc on or off, or put it to sleep.
C Headphone jack Connect a pair of headphones to listen to
music, video, and audio books.
D Volume button Press the volume button to increase or
decrease the audio volume.
E Speakers Listen to music, videos or chat with your
friends.
F USB port Connect the included power adapter to charge your Kobo Arc.
G Touch Screen This is where you’ll see your books, movies, and content. To
interact with the screen, simply tap or swipe.
Charging the Kobo
Your Kobo has been fully charged before you receive it. There should be no need to charge it while
you have it. But if you are unsure you can always see how much charge your Kobo Arc has using the
battery icon at the bottom right corner of the screen. A thunderbolt symbol within the battery
icon means that your KoboArc is charging. While it’s charging, you’ll also see an orange light beside
the power button. To charge your KoboArc, attach the included wall charger to the Micro USB port
at the bottom of your Kobo Arc and plug it into a wall outlet.
Putting your Kobo Arc to sleep and waking it up

You can turn your KoboArc off or put it to sleep when you’re not reading. Both help your battery
last longer. When your KoboArc is asleep it still uses a little power, and when it’s off, there’s no
drain on the battery. When you put your KoboArc to sleep and then wake it up, it only takes a few
seconds to go back to the last
screen you saw. If you turn your Kobo Arc off, you’ll go back to your Home Tapestry when you turn
it on again, and it can take up to 25 seconds for your Kobo Arc to restart.
To turn your Kobo Arc on:
• If your Kobo Arc is charging, press and hold the power button for five seconds.
• If your Kobo Arc is not connected, press and hold the power button for two seconds. You’ll see a
blinking blue light beside the power button while your Kobo Arc is turning on.
To turn off your Kobo Arc:
1. Press and hold the power button until a prompt appears.
2. Tap OK.
To put your Kobo Arc to sleep:
• Press and release the On/Off button quickly. The screen will turn off.
To wake up your Kobo Arc:
1. Press and release the On/Off button quickly.
2. If required, unlock the screen.
Using the touch screen
You can touch your Kobo Arc screen to select items, open books, turn pages, and more.
• Tapping
This is the gesture you’ll use the most. Just tap the screen lightly to open a book, turn a page,
or open an item.
• Double Tapping
To double-tap, tap the same spot on the screen twice quickly.
• Swipe
Use this gesture to navigate, to turn pages in a book, or to unlock the screen. To swipe, place
your finger on the screen and quickly drag it. If you’re touching an item when you swipe, only the
item will follow your finger.
• Pinching
This gesture allows you to zoom in or out on pages.
o To zoom out: Put your thumb and one finger together on the screen and move them
apart.
o To zoom in: Put your thumb and one finger one or two inches apart on the screen and
move them together.
Unlocking the screen
When you get your KoboArc, you’ll see a lock icon on the screen when it wakes up. The lock prevents
you from making accidental changes. To unlock your KoboArc, drag the lock icon to the right edge of
the screen.

Connecting to a WiFi network
When your KoboArc is connected to a wireless network, you’ll see a wireless icon in the System
icons at the bottom of the screen.
To join a WiFi network:
1. Tap the Home icon at the bottom of the screen.
2. Put your finger at the top of the screen and swipe about halfway down the screen. The
notification shade will appear.
3. Tap the Settings icon.
4. Tap the slider button beside WiFi at the top left of the screen.
The button will display On. Tap Wi-Fi.
5. Tap the name of the network you wish to connect to.
6. Tap Connect.
If you see a lock icon beside the wireless connection, it means that the connection
requires a password. You’ll need to enter the password to connect.
Listening to Audiobooks
You can use your KoboArc to listen to Audiobooks on the Tumblebooks library or BookFlix with the
speakers at the front of your KoboArc or with headphones. When you’re listening, you can control
the volume using the built-in volume button.

Starting the Kobo app
The Kobo app lets you read books that are in your Library on the KoboArc. The Kobo app also keeps
your bookmarks and Library. You can start the Kobo app from the All Apps screen.
To start the Kobo app from the All Apps screen:
1. Tap the Home icon at the bottom of the screen.
2. Tap the All Apps icon at the top of the screen.
3. Tap the Kobo app .
Finding books in your Library
The library is where all the books purchased from Kobo are stored. Books in your library are sorted
onto shelves to make it easier for you to find the book you want.
You’ll find the following shelves in you library:
• All – see all the books, documents and previews in your library
• I’m Reading – see all the books in your library
• Finished – see the books you’ve completed that you haven’t removed from your library
To view different shelves in your library:
1. Tap the menu at the top left of the screen.
2. Tap library.
3. Swipe left or right to view the different shelves.
Opening a book
1. Tap the book cover to open the book.
Note: You’ll see a blue line beneath any books you’ve started reading, showing how much you’ve
already read.
Using the Table of Contents
The table of contents lets you jump to a particular chapter of the book. This can be helpful if you
want to quickly find a passage or section.
To view the table of contents while reading:
1. Tap the centre of the screen.
2. Tap the Table of Contents at the top of the screen.
3. Tap the chapter you wish to read.
Closing a book
When you close the book you’re reading, the current page you’re on will be bookmarked. When you
open the book again, you’ll return to the same page.
To close a book while reading:

• Tap the Back icon until you leave your book.
Or
1. Tap the centre of the screen.
2. Tap the Kobo icon at the top of the screen.
3. Tap the Home icon to go to your Reading Tapestry.
Bookmarking a Page
When you close a book, Kobo automatically bookmarks the page. To start reading where you left
off, simply open the book in your library or from a tapestry.
Troubleshooting Wi Fi issues
If you are having trouble connecting or staying connected over Wi Fi,
here are some things you can try:
•Make sure that Wi Fi is on.
•Make sure that there are available wireless networks in your
area.
•Turn Wi Fi off and then on again.
•Restart your Kobo Arc.
Make sure that Wi Fi is on.
To connect to a wireless network you must first turn on Wi Fi.
To turn on Wi Fi:
1.Tap the Home icon on your Kobo Arc.
If there is no Wi Fi icon at the top right of the screen, your Kobo Arc is not connected to a
wireless network.
2.Put your finger at the top of the screen and swipe about half way down the screen.
The notification shade will appear.
3. Tap the Settings icon.
4.Tap the word Off beside WiFi. The word On and a list of available wireless networks will appear.
5.Tap the name of the network you want to join.
6.If required, enter the network password.
7.Tap Connect.
If your Kobo Arc connects properly, you’ll see "Connected"
beneath the network name.

Options for finding ebooks to read on the KoboArc:
Open the Reading folder on the home page of the KoboArc.
In this folder you will find several options for reading ebooks.
• Tap the Library to find ebooks purchased from Kobo.
• Tap the Overdrive Media to find ebooks that you may borrow and download from
Airdrie Public Library with your complimentary 3 month membership.
• If you need help with this step please contact me and I will assist you.
• Tap TumbleBook Library (picture books) to open the webpage. You will need to
have access to WiFi. After signing in a popup window will appear. You must click on OK to
access the mobile site as Adobe Flash does not work on the Kobo.

• Tap TumbleBook Cloud (audiobooks) to open the webpage. At this point you will only
be able to listen to audiobooks as all other books on this site require Adobe Flash. You will
need to have access to WiFi.
