PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The K8 digital audio distribution system transports professional quality audio across a facility over standard category 5 cable. It can be used for simple point-topoint connections or can form a distribution backbone for sending up to 16 audio channels to multiple remote locations.
The K8-AI8 offers the ability to take 8 analog audio signals and encode them onto the K8 system. Up to a total of two K8-AI8 units may be stacked to provide a total capacity of 16 audio channels on a single category 5 cable.
The system is fast to implement and requires no configuration. It is easily connected together with up to 200 meter lengths of category 5 cable. For advanced applications the entire system may be controlled and monitored from a single connection via RS-485 or optionally with Ethernet or USB adaptors.

8-CHANNEL LINE AUDIO INPUT TO K8 BUS
APPLICATIONS
For large paging and background music applications pull a single category 5 cable out to each remote amplifier location or daisy chain from one amplifier room to the next. All locations have access to 16 channels of digital audio without concern over ground loops or induced noise.
Use K8 as a mini snake for sending audio feeds from an auditorium out a remote broadcast truck.
Mount a K8 device in a cluster of powered speakers and drive the entire cluster with a single category 5 cable.
Use K8 as a digital snake between the mixing console and the amplifier racks. Put another K8 branch and output device on stage to drive the stage monitors.
Distribute central background music and paging out to individual venue systems in cruise ships, entertainment facilities, convention centers, schools and conference facilities.
ARCHITECT & ENGINEERING SPECS
The audio transport system shall carry 16 channels of digital audio integrated with bi-directional remote control and monitoring data over a single category 5 cable up to 200 meters in length without being actively refreshed. The digital audio format shall be uncompressed, 48kHz sampling rate, 24 bit quantization depth and shall have a total latency from analog to analog through the transport system of less than 0.5 milliseconds. The system shall pass audio when powered up with no software configuration required. The input to the digital audio system shall be via an 8 channel analog encoder with XLR/1/4” female combination connectors mounted in an EIA standard 1 unit rackmount case with universal voltage power supply. The signal to noise ratio of the system shall be greater than 100 dB and the audio input device shall drive 2 individual category 5 cables to a length of 200 meters. The input device may be cascaded with another input device to populate all 16 audio channels. An RS-485 control port shall allow remote monitoring and control of all devices on a single digital audio leg. Input signal levels shall be adjustable between +4 dBu and –10dBV nominal and +22 dBu peak. The unit shall indicate audio signal present, signal nominal and signal peak conditions for each channel on the front panel. Digital converter clipping, system status OK and device identification shall be shown with lighted indicators on the back panel. Termination of the digital audio and control lines shall be made with DIP switches on the rear panel. The analog audio input to the digital audio system shall be K+H K8-AI8.
