INSTALLATION OVERVIEW:

signalMinder

signal relay of your bike - in many cases this a simple plug-in procedure. But
depending on your bike, you may need additional hook-up.

However, to utilize all of the built-in features of the signalMinder, following
steps are needed.

Finally, for bikes with a SINGLE handlebar switch requiring Push-to-Cancel
to bring the switch back to neutral, next step is needed.

 Locate the original turn signal
flasher and replace it with
appropriate signalMinder - attach
ground wire if needed.

This basic step will provide
cancellation with 3 selectable
timeouts.

 Locate right & left turn signal wires and brake
wire of the bike and tap into them with Scotchlock
T-Tap connectors supplied.

(Refer to pages 24 – 26)

This step will enable:

n Running Lights – front and rear
o 4-Way emergency flash and Escort mode flash
p Brake override and Brake flash feature

 Remove the turn signal switch from the
handlebar and install either metal springs or
foam plugs so that it returns to neutral.

(Refer to pages 27 – 30)

This step of modifying the handlebar switch
transforms the bike to a fully automatic turn
signal cancellation system.

If the above applies to your bike, the incandescent instrument bulb needs to
be removed and replaced with a 12V LED equivalent, to eliminate cross talk
between the right & left turn channels. Order 12V-LED from your dealer or
from Kisan.

Step-2 is not required for SM-3R, which has pre-connected 9-pin plug.

If you have installed load resistors for LEDs, they should be removed.

General rule of thumb is: do a complete installation – all (3) steps – so you
can utilize all of the built-in features of your signalMinder. You will have
safety and convenience of a fully automatic turn signal cancellation system
on your bike.

Some of the Japanese motorcycles have similar 3-pin plug
with Nippon Denso turn signal flasher. Since polarity of the pins is
different, use SM-3M signalMinder for those applications.

Y

If you replace incandescent bulbs with LED clusters, refer to
the notes in Running Light Conversion section.

Typical location of signal flasher

On most models, access to the turn signal flasher is possible simply by
removing the seat and locating it within the wiring harness underneath.

On some models, it is located inside the front fairing. If in doubt, turn it on
and follow the clicking sound to locate it.

Refer to your bike’s Manual, or the Wiring Diagram to find its location.
TO INCREASE TIME, after which the signalMinder will stop flashing:

Make sure the power is turned OFF.

o

Set the time-out by appropriate selection of the DIP switch

SM-2 Application:

 Older Japanese models
 BMW F650 and early air-cooled models

NOTES!

The attached Ground wire MUST BE secured to a good
chassis ground. If necessary slit open the ring and spread it out as
a lug connector for larger bolts.

Y

On some bikes, the 2-pin plug may not be wired with correct
polarity as shown above. If SM-2 does not flash, swap the female
pins of your bike’s socket to match the correct pin-out.
