IMPORTANT ­KEEP FOR FUTURE
REFERENCE

• Please take a few minutes to read the instruc-

tions thoroughly. Failure to do so may result in
damage to the gate or in worst case injury to
your child.

• When unpacking the gate, carefully check all

parts. Do not use this gate if parts are broken
or missing.

• When installed as instructed, between two
clean structurally sound surfaces, this gate
conforms to:

EN 1930:2000 European Standards

This gate is designed for children from 6 months
to 24 months. Since each child’s skills develop at
different ages, these age parameters should be
monitored against your child’s own development.

• No part of the gate requires lubrication.

• Clean using warm soapy water, or a damp
cloth.

• Check the stability of the gate and tighten all
hardware and mountings regularly.

• To prevent serious injury or death, securely
install gate or enclosure and use according to
manufacturer’s instructions.

• Never use with a child able to climb over or
dislodge/open the gate or enclosure.

• Do not use if any part of gate is broken or
missing.

• Never use if gate is less than

• Discontinue use if any part of gate is damaged.

• This product will not necessarily prevent all
accidents. Never leave child unattended.

• Use only spare parts available from KidCo.

• Never allow child to climb or swing on gate.

• Use only with the locking/latching mechanism
securely engaged.

• Closely supervise child when gate is installed
at the top of stairs.

• Never climb over the gate.

• Never hang or tie toys etc. to any part of the
gate.

1. Unpack your folded HearthGate™ on a

stable surface, making sure handle is on top.
Each corner is connected by plastic, interlocking
hinges.

2. Adjusting the sections:

A spring is fitted in all cones which deliberately
creates tension when adjusting.

At corner, lift up slightly on section with hinge
teeth facing down (2.1) while gently pressing
down on connected section (2.2). Rotate
sections to desired position (2.3). Release to
lock into place.

Note: Each hinge adjusts from 0˚ to 270˚ in 10˚
increments.

4. Position HearthGate to desired shape, taking

into account recommended 20” minimum
distance described in “Important Information”
on page 3. It may be necessary to remove or
add section/s to gate to fit your application.
If making no changes, see “Installation” steps
13 to 23.
If removing sections, see “Assembly” steps 5 to

10.

If adding sections, see “Assembly” steps 5 to 7.

5. Removing or adding sections:

Note: Always begin separating gate from
either end. At the juncture of every section is a

removable, vertical bar.

6. To remove vertical bar, lift up on bar (5), while

sliding it out of lower hinge groove (6a). Pull bar
down and out of cone).

7. Lift off end section. If gate is now appropriate

length, go to step 8.
If additional section/s are required, go to steps
11 & 12.

8. Depending on number of sections removed,

you will end up with one of two configurations at
the end of gate (diagram 8 or 9).
Remove hinge cap (i) from bottom of original end
section. A screwdriver may be needed to pry it
off. Place cap over top hinge on what is now the
end piece.

Place spare hinge cover (h) over bottom hinge.
Go to step 10.

9. Remove hinge cap (i) from bottom of original

end section. A screwdriver may be needed to
pry it off. Place under bottom hinge. Remove
plastic cone from under top hinge of original end
section. Install cone (j) under top hinge of new
end section.

10. Reinstall a removable, vertical bar. Insert bar

by pressing it into upper hinge cone, while
sliding bar into groove of lower hinge. Spring in
cone will make bar lock in place.
Proceed to “Installation” steps 13 to 19.

11. Adding optional section/s:

Remove vertical bar from optional section (steps
5 & 6).

Position optional section with cone hinge at top.
Align cone hinge underneath top hinge on end
section. When center of both hinges are
aligned, top and bottom, they will fall together.
Insert removable bar (see step 10).
If adding more than one section, repeat process.

12. Reattaching end sections:

Align top cone corner of one section with the top
hinge of the end section. When center of both
hinges are aligned, top and bottom, they will fall
together.
Proceed to “Installation” steps 13 to 19.

Note: The HearthGate cannot be completely
folded when optional section/s have been
added.

Relocating the walk through door section:

The walk through door section can be
repositioned in the configuration as long as it is
interchanged with a section that has matching
top and bottom hinges (refer to diagram 3).

13. Assemble lower bar brackets (b) and slides

(c) with screws and nuts as shown. Tighten
screws just enough to allow parts to slide easily.
Slide wall plates (d) onto back of upper and
lower bar brackets (a and b) until click is heard
and locked in place. (13)

14. Place upper bracket around top cone hinge.

Slide lower bracket assembly onto removable
bar and push bar up into upper bracket. (14).
Repeat for opposite side of gate.

15. Move HearthGate to desired location.

WARNING: A distance of a minimum of 20”

from source of heat/fire to gate is recommended
(see “Important Information”, page 3). If this is

16. Rotate upper and lower brackets until flush

against mounting surface. With a pencil, outline
brackets on mounting surface. (16)

NOTE: Lower bracket is adjustable. It can be

moved up (maximum 6”) to accommodate
various heights of floor molding; and by
loosening screw, can adjust widths to
accommodate uneven wall construction.

17. Remove wall plates from brackets by

pressing locking tabs (17 a and b) and
lifting off.

18. Hold one wall plate (d) inside wall outline

and screw in two wood screws. Repeat for
other wall plate. (18)

NOTE: Screws provided are for mounting

directly into wood. If mounting into brick,
drywall or other surfaces, use appropriate
hardware.

19. Reattach brackets to wall plates. Gate

should now be properly installed. (19)

While closing door, squeeze handle up as much
as possible (22.1) and align bottom of door with
gate frame (22.2).

Release handle and door should lock.

Gate should always be in the locked position.

23. Door will be properly locked when handle

hook and bottom locking bar have engaged. Test
to ensure door is locked (23).

KIDCO LIMITED WARRANTY

Your KidCo product is warranted to be free from manufacturing defects for a period of one year
from date of purchase under normal non commercial use and in compliance with the operating
instructions. This warranty extends only to the original retail purchaser and is only valid when
supplied with proof of purchase.

KidCo will either repair, or at our option replace, free of charge, any parts necessary to
correct defects in material or workmanship during the warranty period. This warranty is
complete and exclusive. The warranty expressly disclaims liability for incidental, special and
consequential damages of any nature. Any implied warranty arising by operation of law
shall be limited in operation to the terms of this warranty. Some states do not allow the
exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages or limitations on how long an
implied warranty lasts, so the above may not apply to you. This warranty gives you specific
legal rights, and you may have other rights which vary from state to state.

SHOULD REPAIR OR PARTS BE NECESSARY

Should a repair be needed during the warranty period, ship the gate in the original carton or
similar protective container (check any retail store or purchase from UPS) and send freight
prepaid (we suggest UPS) to:

Include a note with your return address, day-time telephone number, and specify what is
wrong with the product. Repairs can normally be made within 48 hours after receipt at KidCo.

• Prendre quelques minutes pour lire toutes les

1. Déballer le HearthGate™ plié sur une surface

stable, en s’assurant que la poignée se trouve
sur le dessus. Les coins sont reliés les uns aux
autres par des charnières en plastique.

2. Ajustement des sections :

Un ressort figure dans chaque cône pour créer
une tension d’ajustement. Soulever légèrement
au coin la section avec les dents de charnière
vers le bas (1) tout en appuyant doucement sur
la section attachée (2). Tourner la section à la
position désirée (3). Relâcher pour verrouiller en
position.

Remarque: Chaque charnière se règle entre 0
et 270°, par pas de 10°.

4. Positionner le HearthGate en lui donnant la

forme souhaitée sans oublier de prendre en
compte la distance minimale de 51 cm
recommandée (cf. “Informations importantes”),
page 3. Il sera peut-être nécessaire de retirer ou
d’ajouter une ou des sections à la barrière pour
l’adapter à votre application.
En l’absence de changements, passer aux éta­pes 13 à 23 de la section “Installation”.
Pour retirer des sections, voir les étapes 5 à 10
de la section “Assemblage”.
Pour ajouter des sections, voir les étapes 5 à 7
de la section “Assemblage”.

5. Retrait ou ajout de sections :

Remarque: Toujours commencer par séparer
la barrière à l’une ou l’autre extrémité. Au

point de raccordement de chaque section se
trouve une barre verticale amovible.

6. Pour retirer cette barre verticale, soulever la

barre (5) pour la dégager de la rainure de la
charnière inférieure (6a). Abaisser la barre et la
retirer du cône (6).

7. Soulever la section terminale. Si la barrière

est désormais de la longueur appropriée,
passer à l’étape 8.
Si des sections supplémentaires sont
nécessaires, passer aux étapes 11 et 12.

8. Selon le nombre de sections retirées, l’une

des deux configurations possible (figure 8 ou 9)
sera obtenue en bout de barrière.

Retirer le capuchon de charnière (i) de la
charnière supérieure de la section terminale
d’origine. L’utilisation d’un tournevis comme
levier pourra faciliter son retrait. Placer le
capuchon par-dessus la charnière supérieure de
ce qui est désormais la section terminale.

Placer le cache-charnière de secours (h) sur la
charnière inférieure. Passer à l’étape 10.

9. Retirer le capuchon de charnière (i) de la

charnière inférieure de la section terminale
d’origine. L’utilisation d’un tournevis comme
levier pourra faciliter son retrait. Placer sous la
charnière inférieure. Retirer le cône en plastique
du dessous de la charnière supérieure de la
section terminale d’origine. Installer un cône (j)
sous la charnière supérieure de la nouvelle
section terminale.

10. Réinstaller une barre verticale amovible.

Insérer la barre en appuyant dessus pour l’insérer
dans le cône de la charnière supérieure, tout en
glissant la barre dans la rainure de la charnière
inférieure. Le ressort dans le cône bloquera la
barre en position. Passer aux étapes 13 à 19 de
la section “Installation”.

11. Ajout de sections en option :

Retirer la barre verticale de la section en option
(étapes 5 et 6).

Placer la section en option avec la charnière
conique en haut. Aligner la charnière conique
sous la charnière supérieure de la section
terminale. Lorsque les deux charnières sont
alignées l’une sur l’autre, en haut et en bas, elles
s’enclencheront parfaitement.

Insérer la barre amovible (cf. étape 10).
Pour ajouter plus d’une section, reprendre la

procédure.

12. Raccordement des sections terminales:

Aligner le coin du cône supérieur d’une section
sur la charnière supérieure de la section
terminale. Lorsque les deux charnières sont
alignées l’une sur l’autre, en haut et en bas, elles
s’enclencheront parfaitement.

Passer aux étapes 13 à 19 de la section
“Installation”.

Remarque: Le HearthGate ne peut pas être
complètement replié lorsque des sections en
option ont été ajoutées.
