Driver Selectable Surround
DSS (Driver Selectable Surround) mode can be turned on and off with the volume control knob on the
radio or steering wheel volume control buttons. DSS will give your music a new dimension by simulating a
surround sound feel. You can enable DSS by turning the volume control knob on the radio up two
increments and then down two increments within three seconds. You will hear a momentary attenuation in
the sound when the system switches to DSS mode. You can also enable DSS with the steering wheel
volume control buttons in the same way. Press the volume up button twice and then the volume down
button twice within three seconds. To disable DSS just repeat the same process.
Note: the balance is automatically controlled when you are in DSS mode. In fact, an easy way to tell
whether you are in DSS or non-DSS mode is to try the balance control. DSS can be utilized with any
source - i.e., Sirius® satellite radio, regular radio, and compact disc player.
KMS-1® or Kicker® Mobile Surround
If your vehicle is equipped with factory VES® (Video Entertainment System) you can enjoy the bene fits o f
KMS-1® (Kicker Mobile Surround).
KMS-1 is enabled automatically when the Radio is put into the VES® mode. This feature offers the
ultimate listening experience by providing surround sound uniquely equalized for your interior space.
Note: While in KMS mode the system automatically sets balance, fade and tone to provide the optimal
surround experience.
KMS® is available only if a DVD is in the player and the radio mode is set to VES®.

2. Gently pull out on the panel just below the steering column, rotate down and remove. Fig. 1
3. Find the small panel just below the one you just removed and pull to remove it as well. Fig. 2
4. Using a 10mm socket and ratchet remove the two 10mm bolts securing the metal plate below the
steering column. Fig. 3
5. Remove the center 10mm bolt securing the amplifier/bracket assembly. Fig. 4
6. Disconnect amp wiring and remove the amp by pulling straight out toward the seat.
7. Remove the four screws securing the amplifier to the bracket. Install the upgrade amplifier to the
bracket using the original screws. Fig. 5
8. Reinstall the amplifier/bracket assembly back into the dash. The upgrade amplifier is slightly wider
and will require being tilted at a slight angle to pass between the two metal bars of the dash
substructure. Once the amplifier is past the beams it will reinstall exactly like the original amplifier.

10. Remove the screw indicated by arrow A completely. Fig. 7
11. Install the amplifier with the long tab toward the center of the car. Slide the long tab behind
the plastic and under the lower right screw while pulling out on the plastic. Once tab is
completely seated rotate the amplifier down and secure the short tab in the same manner.
Reinstall screw A and retighten the screws but leave the covers uninstalled. Fig. 8
12. Find the rubber grommet in the top driver’s side of the fire wall underneath the hood and
remove it. Fig. 9
13. Using a razor knife make a small cut in the center of the grommet. Pass the end of the wire with
the small terminal on the end through the grommet and pull the grommet up to the point where
the plastic sheathing starts. Fig. 10
14. Run the wire through the grommet hole in the fire wall and reinstall the grommet.
15. Run the wire along the top of the fire wall toward the battery and secure with wire ties.

the nut on the positive battery accessory lug. Fig. 11
17. Connect the ring terminal of the power harness to the lug and retighten the nut. Torque to 10Nm.
18. Using a panel removal tool remove the four plastic retainers (three in front door opening and
one in rear door opening) securing the driver’s side sill plate and B pillar post cover. Fig. 12
19. Gently pull the kick panel/sill plate toward the brake pedal to release the fasteners securing it.
20. Connect the ten pin connector of the harness to the amplifier. Slide the red locking tab
over to prevent the connector from accidentally coming disconnected.
21. Route the harness along the bottom of the front and rear door jam and toward the back seat.
22. Locate the 16 pin connector on the amplifier under the steering column. Find the green/brown
stripe wire and the gray/brown strip wire in this connector and install one of the self-stripping ttap connectors on to each wire. Lay the wire in the open channel, fold the connector body over
and squeeze with a pair of pliers until connector snaps shut. Fig. 14
23. Connect the green wire of the subwoofer harness to the gray/brown strip wire. Connect the
brown wire of the subwoofer harness to the green/brown stripe wire.

25. Depress the blue terminal retainer down in the center of the connector.
26. Using a 10mm socket and ratchet remove one of the factory ground nuts on the driver’s side
kick area. Connect the black ground wire, reinstall the nut and tighten. Fig. 16. Torque to
8Nm.
27. Run the wire harness along the floor under the rear seats to approximately the middle of the
vehicle and pull the end of the harness under the seat to the cargo area.
28. Set the subwoofer in place and connect the wire harness.
29. Align the mounting bracket with the anchor points at the bottom of the seat and press the
enclosure down until it locks into place. Fig. 17
30. To remove the subwoofer press the tabs on each side of the mounting bracket while
lifting up. Disconnect wiring. Fig. 18
31. Reinstall all previously removed parts in reverse order.
32. Install the supplied fuse in the fuse holder under the hood.
33. Reconnect the negative battery cable. Torque to 5Nm.

Troubleshooting the Kicker Integrated Systems
If you experience a problem once the Subwoofer is installed use this guide to locate the trouble.
The radio is working, but the Subwoofer is not working:
• Check the battery voltage to make sure it is not discharged below 11 volts.
• Check the negative battery cable to see if it has been securely tightened back on the battery.
• Check the inline fuse located near the battery to make sure it is plugged in completely,
and not blown.
• Check the inline +12 Volt power-connector near the firewall to make sure it is plugged in securely.
• Check the inline connectors near the subwoofer enclosure to make sure they are plugged
securely.
• Check the ground wire connection to make sure it is tightly secured to the proper ground
in the vehicle.
• Check the audio input signal connection to make sure it is securely connected to the correct
wiring.
• Test with different music in case there is no low frequency audio in the initial sound check.
There is a buzz or rattle noise that accompanies the
low frequency element of the music:
• Check for a connector or any other object that could be very near the subwoofer or the enclosure.
• Check the subwoofer enclosure mounting brackets to make sure they are secure.
There is a problem with the multi-channel stereo amplifier:
• Check the battery voltage to make sure it is not discharged below 11 volts.
• Check the negative battery cable to see if it has been securely tightened back on the battery.
• Check the multi-pin connectors at the back of the radio and at the amplifier chassis to
make sure they are plugged all the way in.
