Pow er connect ion is qu it e sim ple f or t h e Kicker KQ9. The red wire co nnect s t o
a const ant sou r ce of +12 volt s and t he b lack wire co nnect s t o g round. There are
t w o o t her wires t hat are part of t he t urn - o n circuit ry. The solid b lu e wire co n nect s to t h e t u rn-o n connect ion o n your head u n it . In t h e even t yo u d on’t have
an am plif ier t u rn-o n connect ion on your head u n it , t his wire can be hooked t o a
swit ch ed source o f +12 vo lt s such as an accessory w ire. The blu e w ire wit h a
whit e stripe is t h e t urn-o n o u t put w ire. It can be used t o t urn o n o n your am plif ier (s).
The Kicker KQ9 equalizer is designed t o go inline f ro m t he h ead u nit t o t he
amplif ier(s). Low level RCA and high level (speaker level) in p u t s are provided f or
universal connect ion t o a variet y of d if f erent h ead u n it s.
The o u t p u t RCAs m ay b e used for one, t wo or t h ree am plif iers. The m ost basic
system will u se t he Fro n t out p u t s o n ly. Shown belo w.

Using m ore t h an one am plif ier wit h t he KQ9 is very sim ple. It h as out put s f o r a
f ront am plif ier, a rear am p lif ier and a subwoof er am plif ier. You can build a basic
bi-am p system u sing t h e Front and Su b o u t put s. If yo u d o n’t have a ded icat ed
sub w o of er amplif ier yo u can st ill use t he Front and Rear out p u t s t o power f o u r
speakers w it h t w o st ereo am p lif iers or on e f o u r ch annel am plif ier.

suit able panel in t h e dash f o r a b uilt -in look. If yo u choose t he in - d ash m o u n t ing
m et h od be caref ul t o cut t he right size hole f or t he b est app earance.

your veh icle’s dashboard or t o f it your p erso nal t aste. The EQ slider lig h t s are
always red, reg ard less of t he illum in at ion sw it ch set t ing.
Aft er you’ve m ounted t he Kicker KQ9 and p u t yo ur veh icle’s int er io r b ack
t o get her, it ’s t im e t o g et f am iliar wit h all t he con t rols and f u n ct io ns. Sp en d t im e
get t ing t o know your EQ so yo u w o n ’t get dist ract ed if yo u w ant to adjust som et h in g w h ile driving. It is dang ero u s t o t ake yo u r eyes off t he road f or any reason.
1. FADER: This cont rol g ives you t h e abilit y t o f ade b et ween t he f ron t and rear
RCA out p u t s. If you are u sing only o n e of t hese out p u t s sim ply t urn t he co n t rol
all t h e w ay t o t h e f ront o r rear, whichever is appropriat e.
2. EQ BYPASS: This but t on will t urn t he equalizer port io n o ff f or co m parison
bet w een an equalized signal and t he nat ural sou n d o f your stereo. When t he EQ
is swit ched o ff (IN p o sit io n ) t h e light s on t h e EQ slider s t u rn off .
3. XOVER on /o f f b u t t o n : When t h is but t on is pushed in , t h e su b out p u t RCAs
have a lowpass sign al available f o r you r subwoof er am plif ier. Also, t he f r o nt and
rear o u t p u t s are h ig h p assed w h en t he XOVER is engaged . This helps t he p o w er
hand lin g o f yo ur m idrang es and t w eet er s. When t he XOVER is o ff (OUT posit io n )
t h e subwoof er RCAs have n o signal and t he f ro n t and rear RCAs are full r ange.
4. PEQ slid e r con t ro ls: These t w o slider s cont rol t he f r eq u ency and level of t he
lowest b ass port io n o f t h e m u sic. The f ir st slid er, m arked FREQ, let s yo u ch o o se
t h e f requency bet w een 40 Hz and 60 Hz at w h ich t h e b ass bo o st o r cu t w ill
occu r. The LEVEL slider allows you t o b o o st +12 dB o r cu t -12 dB at t he cho sen
f req uen cy. Please no t e - as you att em p t t o apply m o re b oost at really low f requencies m ore power is required f r om yo ur sub am plif ier and t he subs will m ove
a lot m ore.
5. Graph ic EQ slider co n t rols: This is the co n vent io nal eq ualizer p o rt io n o f yo u r
KQ9. You have t h e abilit y t o boost or cu t eight d if f erent frequen cies from 125 Hz
t o 16 kHz. St art in g w it h all t h e sliders in the cent er p o sit ion , listen t o a variet y of
m u sical p assages. As you b ecom e f am iliar wit h t he w ay yo u r syst em sounds,
t h er e w ill prob ably b e port ions of t he m usic yo u w o uld like t o b o o st u p o r cut
back. By m ovin g each o f t h e sliders up and down, it will b ecom e app arent w h ich
one aff ect s which part of m u sic. Sett in g an eq ualizer is very sub ject ive and you
can set it any way you like t o g et t he per f o r m ance yo u d esire.

6. Sub XOVER FREQ: This knob will ch ange t he lo w p ass fr eq u ency o n t he sub
out RCAs. The lo w est set t ing (60 Hz) will b e m o st eff ect ive wit h very large sub woof er s. The h ig h est set t ing )120 Hz) will p robably be used only w it h ver y sm all
sub w o of ers. The cen t ral p o sit io n w ill be a good start ing place f or m o st system s;
you can adju st up or d o w n f rom th ere t o suit your t aste and opt im ize t h e p erf o rm ance of yo u r speakers.
7. SUB LEVEL: When t he sub ou t RCAs and t he XOVER are b eing used , this knob
is your Bass Cont rol. It set s h ow lo u d t he sub w o o f ers play and g ives you t h e abilit y t o t urn t hem up and do w n w it hout chang in g t he eq u alizer set t in g s. This will
be t h e knob yo u u se t he m ost.
