INSTALLATION
Wiring: Carefully place the speaker wire in a location that is clear of standing water and moving components of the vessel. The terminal cover is removable for wiring installation, and when locked-in-place, it aids in ignition protection. Connect the speaker wire to the speaker terminals, then loop the positive and negative wires up, back down, then together, and up through the slot in the terminal cover. See Figure 1.

Your KM subwoofer was specially designed for “Livin’ Loud” out in the harsh marine environment. It is magnetically shielded and uses advanced materials and construction techniques to maintain optimal performance for years to come. The KICKER KM subwoofer is designed to be extremely versatile. The KM subwoofer excels in a sealed or vented box, and it surpasses the competition in an infi nite baffl e (free-air) installation.

method effectively utilizes the storage space of most boats. Use caution when mounting speakers through any panel of the boat. Please be aware of wiring harnesses, springs, hinges, and folding seat

mechanisms that may interfere with the operation of the boat or speaker system. Mark the panel for the hole cut-out diameter of the subwoofer and cut the hole. See Figure 2.

Sealed Enclosures: The KM subwoofer
B
generates more sound pressure than competing marine subwoofers on the market and excels when used in the recommended sealed boxes. These sealed enclosure designs give the smoothest response with increased energy at the lowest frequencies, 20 to 40Hz. These designs deliver massive amounts of highly-accurate bass and can be driven with punishing levels of amplifi er power.
C
The KM subwoofer high performance suspension system can operate in a larger sealed enclosure. This maximum enclosure volume application is ideal for SQ (ultra sound quality) installations. The
A
Figure 3
SQ enclosure generates a very fl at response curve and superbly extends the subbass response.
KM subwoofers perform well in any size sealed enclosure between the Compact and SQ volume recommendations. These systems will exhibit benefi ts of both designs: Compact produces highimpact bass, and SQ generates low bass frequency protraction. Overall, the system will sound more like the recommended enclosure design it is closest to in enclosure volume. These enclosure recommendations have been calculated with the airspace inside the enclosure and include the displacement of the woofer.

thicker Marine Grade Plywood and seal the joints with silicone. Use the “template” inside your KM subwoofer’s shipping carton to mark the mounting hole, then cut directly on the line. These designs need internal bracing. Add triangular bracing between each of the larger unsupported panels. See Figure 4.

All of the cubic feet (L) measurements in this manual include the displacement of the woofer.

For the vented enclosures the displacement of the port must be calculated and added to the internal volume of the fi nal design. Use the outer
D = 2” x 2” for KM10
dimensions of the port and multiply “X x Y x Z”, convert to cubic feet, for example the KM10 vented compact design’s external port dimensions are, using 3/4” (1.9cm) Marine Grade Plywood: [ (1.5” + 1.5” total wall thickness) x (10.5” + 1.5” total MDF wall thickness) x 14.5”] x (1 ft3 / 1728 in3 ) = .30 ft3, and add this number to the internal volume of the enclosure, KM10’s 1.25 ft3 + .30 ft3 = 1.55 ft3. See Figure 5. Due to the necessary length of these ports, you may want to fold the port along the bottom and back walls. It will be impractical to use round ports for these designs.
Do not install a port opening against a solid surface, such as an internal brace, back-panel or structural wall, seat or interior panel of your vessel. The port opening must remain unobstructed. Use the smallest dimension of the rectangular port as the minimum amount of space between the port opening and any solid surface to insure unrestricted airfl ow.

Grille Installation: Mount the KM Subwoofer with four of the enclosed stainless steel screws in the order outlined. Position the grille into place and mount the remaining stainless steel screws in the order outlined. If applicable, utilize the enclosed stainless steel U-type speed clips. Mount the grille right side-up to take advantage of the grille’s integrated moisture draining system. See Figure

A Note on Power Handling Capacity KM subwoofers will handle massive amounts of power in any of the recommended enclosures, minimum or maximum. The smaller enclosures are best for use in limited-space applications. The larger recommended enclosures will yield slightly more bass at the lowest frequencies.
Pro Tip: You are one ZXM Amplifi er and a few cables away from a complete, high-quality system with rock-solid bottom end as only available from KICKER! Please ask your dealer about KICKER ZXM amplifi er upgrades.
Note: KICKER Marine speakers use the highest level of magnetic shielding available to minimize compass and gauge deviation in your dash. KICKER Marine speakers meet or exceed industry standards for environmental humidity and corrosion, and for material degradation due to UV exposure. All specifi cations and performance fi gures are subject to change.
Please visit www.kicker.com for the most current information. To get the best performance from your new KICKER Subwoofer, we recommend using genuine KICKER Accessories and Wiring. Please allow two weeks of break-in time for the subwoofer to reach optimum performance. The use of a subsonic fi lter will signifi cantly increase the power handling. The power handling specifi cations in these charts are calculated using a 25Hz, 24dB per octave subsonic fi lter.
