UD-NF7 and UD-F5 Compact Component system consist of the main unit (RD-UDNF7 or RD-UDF5) and the speaker system (LS-UDNF7-M or LS-UDF7-B).

Auto Power Save function (APS)

• When no operation is done in certain situations for 15 minutes, the unit turns off automaticaiiy.

• The remote control buttons are used for explaining the operations unless mentioned otherwise. However, if the unit has buttons with
the same or similar names, they can also be used forthe operations.

Precautions

Do not coverthe ventilation openings. Doing so keep the heat to remain inside of the unit, which may cause fire. Use extra cautions about the following:
• Do not place the uniton its side, upside down, or the front side facing upward.
• Do not place the unit in a place such as bookshelves, closet, etc without adequate ventilation.
• Do not cover the ventilation openings with items, such as newspapers, tablecloths, curtains, etc.

System Connections

■ Unplug the AC power lead from the wall socket if the unit will not be in use for a prolonged period of time.

Aerial connection

Included FM aerial
----------
When connecting the FM areal to the main unit, connect it to the center of the FM areal terminal firmly.
Extend the FM aerial when connecting so that you can obtain the best reception.
External FM aerial (commercially available)
If the included FM aerial is unable to receive well, use an external FM aerial. When an external FM aerial is used, disconnect the included FM aerial wire.
Note
Placing the aerial on the unit, near the AC power or electronic devices lead may cause noise pickup. Move the aerial away from the AC power lead if it is located nearby.

Speaker connection

• Do not connect more than 2 speakers into 1 terminal.
• Do not allow the speaker wire to touch the metal part of the main unit.
• Speakers of the main unit are not designed to shield magnetics. When placing this unit near a CRT television, place it away from the television to avoid color irregularity of the television.
• Do not letthe speakerwires touch each other.

Removing saran nets

Saran nets are removable.
Connecting to the externai devices (TV, etc.)

• On main unit, press ^[INPUT] button repeatedly until “AUX” is displayed.
• On the remote control, press ^[AUDIO IN/AUX] button repeatedly until “AUX” is displayed.

Connecting iPod/iPhoneto_Ty^^^^^

Video files from iPod/iPhone can be viewed by
connecting the unit to TV/monitor.
Place the iPod/iPhone to the dock, and then connect the Video input terminal of the TV or monitor and the VIDEO OUT socket at the back of this unit. Then, by
press and hold the [iPod DISPLAY / TV OUT] button
on the remote control, set the TV out function to On.

Note
TV out display is not support through USB terminal. To playbackvideos on iPod/iPhone screen, press
[iPod DISPLAY/TV OUT] for more than 2 seconds, until “TV OUT OFF” is displayed.

Remote Control

Battery installation
1 Open the battery cover.
2 Insert the included battery according to the
terminal indicated in the battery compartment.
3 Close the cover.

Operating range of the re_mgte^contro^

Point the remote control directly at the remote sensor
on the unit. The remote control can be used within the range
shown below:

Note
The included battery is for checking system operations. Replace it with a new one as soon as possible.
If the range or effectiveness of the remote control decreases, replace the battery.
Periodically clean the transmitter on the remote control and the sensor on the unit with a soft cloth.
Exposing the sensor on the unit to strong light may interfere with operations. Change the direction of the unit ifthis occurs.
Keep the remote control away from moisture, heat, shock, and vibrations.
Read through the attached Safety Precaution to ensure the safe usage of the batteries.

VOLUME

Turning on the Power

1 Press the [O] button.

Press the [O] button to enter the power stand-by mode.
When you press any of the following buttons, the unit turns on.
• Remote control ^“CD”, “TUNER”, “USB/iPad”, “iPod”, “AUDIO IN/AUX”, “NETWORK”* * (*UD-NF7 only)
button on the main unit: The unit turns on and playback of the last function will start. (CD, TUNER, USB, iPod, AUDIO IN, AUX, NETWORK*) (*UD-NF7 only)
Setting the Network Standby (UD­NF7 oniy)
The first time the unit is plugged in, the unit will enter NETWORKSTANDBY.
HETUORK ST-BV
Auto power on function is activated when the main unit is set to Network Standby. (p.11)
To cancel NetworkStandby, press the [DIMMER/ NETWORK STANDBY] button (remote control) during power standby mode. The unit will enter the low power consumption mode.
To return to NetworkStandby, press the [DIMMER/ NETWORK STANDBY] button (remote control) again.
When iPod or iPhone is connected to the iPod/ iPhone dock, battery charge starts and “Charge Mode” is displayed. NETWORK STANDBY is invalid during charge mode.

Volume up/down

1 Dial the [Volume Control]. Or, press the
[VOLUMEV/A] button on the remote control.
Volume auto fade-in
I —^
If you turn off and on the main unit with the volume set to 27 or higher, the volume starts at 16. The volume fades in to the last set level.
To mute the volume temporarjj^_^^

1 Press the [MUTE] button.

“MUTING” is flashed and the sound is muted
temporarily.
• Press again to restore the volume.
Bass (EX.BASS) adjustment_^^_^^

1 Press the [EX.BASS] button.

Current EX.BASS setup is displayed.
• When the power is turned on for the first time, Bass mode is setto ON.
• Press the [EX.BASS] button to switch the Bass mode to ON or OFF.
• “EX.BASS ON”/“EX.BASS OFF” will be displayed.
Bass/Trebleadjustment
1 Press the [TONE] button to select “Bass”
(bass) or “Treble” (treble).
2 Within 5 seconds, press the [VOLUMEV/A]
button to adjust the bass/treble.
• EX.BASSissettoOFF.

Note

When iPod/iPhone is connected to the iPod/iPhone dock, battery charge starts. “Charge Mode” will be displayed.
If the sound source is USB and IPod/iPhone is
connected to the iPod/iPhone dock (when “iPod
Dock Charge Mode” is displayed), A.P.S function is
not active.

Auto Power On function (UD-NF7 only)

During NetworkStandby, if UD-NF7 is selected by AirPlay/DLNA device and playback is started, this unit turns on the power automatically and the music is
output from the speaker of this unit. This condition applies when:
• Network has previously been set up between the unit and your AirPlay/DLNA device. (p.14)
• Thisunitissetto NETWORKSTANDBY. (p. 10)

Selecting a Source

Pressing the buttons for each sound source on the remote control, ortho [INPUT] button on the main unit will switch from the currently selected source to the other source. Press the [CD], [TUNER], [USB/iPad], [iPod], [AUDIO IN/AUX] or [NETWORK]* (* UD-NF7 only) on the remote control.
Select the desired source by pressing the [INPUT] button on main unit repeatedly.

A.P.S. (Auto Power Save) Function

The main unitwill enterthe standby mode after 15 minutes of inactivity during:
• CD^: In the stop mode or no disc.
• USB^ In a stop mode or not connected.
• iPod^: Not docked.
• AUDIO IN/AUX^ No detection of input signal.
- when AUDIO IN/AUX is selected, it may take a little while for the power of the unit to be shut off, depending on the noise condition.

Note

Press the [ENTER] button on the remote control when “Press ENTER to start streaming” is displayed.
AirPiay/DLNA Auto Switch (UD­NF7 Oniy)
Forsources otherthan NETWORK, if“UD-NF7” is selected by AirPlay/DLNA device and playback is started, the source is switched to NETWORK automatically and music from AirPlay/DLNA device is played back.
This condition applies when:__^^__^^
• Network has previously been set up between the unit and your AirPlay/DLNA device. (p.14)

• Press the button once to advance the time by 1 minute. Hoid it down to advance the time by 5 minutes intervai.

To readjustthe clock

1 Perform step 1 at “Setting the ciock (Remote
controi oniy)”.

To change the 24-hour or 12-hour display

1 Ciear aii the programmed contents.
Referto the “Factory reset, ciearing aii memory”
in p. 44.
2 Perform step 1 at “Ciock Setting (Remote
Controi Oniy)”.

Display Brightness Control

To dim the dispiay brightness, press the [DiMMER/
NETWORK STANDBY] button on the remote controi.
FDimmer 1 (Display is dim).

Dimmer 2 (Display gets dimmer). Dimmer Off (Display is bright).

To confirm the time display

1 Press the [CLOCK/TiMER] button.
The time is displayed for 5 seconds.
Note
When power supply is restored after unit is plugged in again or after a powerfailure, time indicatorwill flash. Reset the clock again.

There are two ways to connect this unit and your AirPiay/DLNA device, wireiess connection (direct wireiess connection) and wireiess connection via wireiess LAN router.
• Use of a wireiess LAN router is recommended if possibie.
• This unit cannot be used as a wireiess LAN router. Use a wireiess LAN router to connect your AirPiay/ DLNA device to the internet.
Caution
When this unit is piaced too cióse to a wireiess LAN device or microwave, noise interference may occur, causing crackiing sound, it may aiso reduce the communication speed and cause invaiid connection. Piace the unit away from the wireiess LAN device or microwave.
This unit is not guaranteed to operate with aii the AirPiay/DLNA compatibie devices or wireiess LAN routers. Piease be noted in advance.
About AirPlay
With Appie AirPiay technoiogy, you can stream your music from your Mac/Windows/iPod touch/iPhone/ iPad to externai speakers.
AirPiay usage requires:
• iTunesversion10.2oriater (Mac/Windows PC)
• Foiiowing devices with the iatest iOS update:
- iPod touch (4th and 3rd generation)
- iPhone 4S
- iPhone 4
- iPhone 3GS (iPhone 3G cannot support AirPiay)
- iPad (3rd generation)
- iPad 2
- iPad
About DLNA
With DLNA technoiogy, this unit can piay back music which is stored on your PC and/or mobiie devices via wireiess connection.

DLNA usage requires:

• Mobiie devices supporting DLNA
- Refer to the instruction manuai of your device.
• DLNA appiication with server function (DMS)
- About the DMS support, refer to the heip page of the instaiied appiication.
• Windows Media Piayer 12 (Windows 7)
- Windows Media Piayer 11 or eariier version of Windows Media Piayer can not be used for piayback.
• DLNAversion 1.5
Note
Depending on the DLNA appiication, you may experience maifunctions during network connection or piaying back. Try another appiication in such a case.
DRM fiies cannot be piayed back. Streaming audio sounds of the recorded videos
from DLNA devices is not supported by this unit.

Direct Connection to the Main Unit (Direct Wireiess Connection)
1 Press the [O] button. 2 Press the [NETWORK] button. 3 Press [Wi-Fi SETUP] button on the remote
control.
4 Press the [T / A] button to select “Wi-Fi
Setup”, and then press the [ENTER] button.
5 Press the
[T / A]
and then press the [ENTER] button.
• Wait until the display shows “Direct Ready” which takes about 40 seconds.

from “Settings”, and then set to ON.
• On the Android device, select “Wireless & networks” in “Settings”, and then select “Wi-Fi settings”.
• On PC, open the screen for the wireless LAN network setup.
8 On iPod touch/iPhone/iPad, start a “Music”
application to display the “Now Playing” screen.
• On PC, start iTunes or Windows Media Player
12. Start DLNA compatible application on other DLNA compatible devices.
• Refer to the instruction manual of your device for further detail.
9 Tap or click the AirPlay icon (S) to select
“UD-NF7 xxxxxx”.
• When using DLNA application, specify the files to play back, and select “UD-NF7” as the audio output device.
• Operations may vary depending on the applications you are using. Refer to the help page of your application for further detail.
10 Play back music. 11 Press the [ENTER] button when “Press
ENTER to startstreaming” is displayed.
Audio is output from the speaker.
Note
When “Press ENTER to start streaming” is displayed on the main unit, the main unit is waiting for the playback to be started.
The last 6 digits xxxxxx is MAC ID. Details on checking MAC ID, referto p. 18.
• If Wi-Fi is Off, set it to On.
• Refer to the instruction manual of your device forfurtherdetail.

Select “UD-NF7_xxxxxx” from the list of network.
• “xxxxxx” is a model-specific number.

Connection via Wireiess Router
with WPS
Make sure that a wireless LAN router is connected to
the mobile device or PC.

1 Press the [0] button. 2 Press the [NETWORK] button. 3 Press [Wi-Fi SETUP] button on the remote

controi.
4 Press the [T / A] button to seiect “Wi-Fi
Setup”, and then press the [ENTER] button.
5 Press the [▼/A] button to seiect “WPS”, and
then press the [ENTER] button.
“WPS Ready” will be displayed.
6 Press the [WPS] button on the wireiess
router.
Wait until '► on the display stop blinking and the display shows “Successfully connected to [network name]”. It takes about 2 minutes.

On iPod touch/iPhone/iPad, start a “Music” appiication to dispiay the “Now Piaying” screen.

• On PC, start ITunes or Windows Media Player
12. Start DLNA compatible application on
other DLNA compatible devices.
• Refer to the help page of your device for further detail.

8 Tapor ciick the AirPiay icon (O) to seiect

“UD-NF7 xxxxxx”.

• When using DLNA application, specify the files to play back, and select “UD-NF7” as the audio output device.
• Operationsmayvarydependingonthe applications you are using. Referto the help
page of your application for further detail.

9 Piay back music.

Audio is output from the speaker.

Note

If connection has failed, the display will show ‘Cannot connect to Network. Please try again’. Repeat step 3 to retry.
Once setting is completed, operations from step 3
to 6 are unnecessary.

Caution

• Do not place two discs in one disc tray.
• Do not play discs of special shapes (heart, octagon, etc). It may cause malfunctions.

• IfTVor radio interference occurs during CD operation, move the unit away from the TV or radio.
• Be sure to place 8 cm disc in the middle of the disc tray.

About the Files

MP3
MP3 is a type of audio code which is processed by significant compression from the original
audio source with very little deterioration in sound quality.
• During VBR file playback, time counter in the display may differ from its actual playback time.
WMA
WMA files are advanced system format files that
include audio files which are compressed with
Windows Media Audio codec. WMA is developed
by Microsoft as an audio format file for Windows Media Player.

This product can play WMA and MP3 files. It will automatically detect the file type being played. If
unplayable file is played on this unit, “Not Support”
is indicated and the file will be automatically skipped. This operation takes few seconds. Turn off the power of this unit and turn back on again if
unusual display is found due to the unplayable files.
MTP connection is not supported by this unit. This unit is not guaranteed to operate with all the
USB devices. Please be noted in advance.
Do not connect the USB device to the main unit via
USB cable. Use of USB cable will affect the

Do not use a USB hub.
USB/iPad terminal of this unit cannot be used for PC connection.

Depending on the connected devices, malfunction

The unit cannot play back a file larger than 2 GB. When playing back the Variable Bitrate (VBR) files,
playback time may not be displayed correctly. Playback order of the MP3/WMA files may vary
depending on the writing software being used. Playlists are not supported on this unit. Total number of folders read is 999 including folder
with non-playable file. However, the display shows onlyfolderwith MP3/WMAfiles.
Maximum of 255 files per folder is read. Maximum total numberof MP3/WMA files this unit
can recognise is 65,025. If the USB device is divided into multiple partitions,
this unit recognises the first partition.

Using Radio Data System

Increasing number of FM stations has started providing the Radio Data System service. These
FM stations send additional signals along with their regular programme signals. They send their station names, and information about the type of
programme such as sport, music, etc.
“TP” (Traffic Programme) will appear on the display when the received broadcast carries traffic
information, and “TA” (Traffic Announcement) will appearwhileatraffic information is on air.
PTYI (Dynamic PTY Indicator) will appear while the
Dynamic PTY station is received.

Operation
If any of the following events occur, it does not mean that the unit is faulty:

• When you receive an Radio Data System station whose signal is too weak, information like the station name may not be displayed.

Notes for radio text:

• The first 14 characters of the radio text will appear for 4 seconds and then they will scroll across the display.

Sleep Operation

This unit will enter the standby mode after the set time
has elapsed.
