Kenwood TT930, TT9940 User Manual

before using your Kenwood appliance
Read these instructions carefully and retain for future reference.
Remove all packaging and any labels.
Burnt food can catch fire, so:
never leave your toaster on unattended;
keep your toaster away from anything (eg curtains) that could catch fire;
select a shorter time for thin or dry bread;
never warm food with a topping: if it drips into the toaster, it could catch fire. If warming sandwiches with a filling always use the sandwich cage and follow the instructions provided.
Clean the crumb tray regularly: crumbs can smoke or burn.
Sandwich fillings could melt and drip into the toaster. Take care as it could catch fire.
To avoid electric shocks, never:
let the toaster, cord or plug get wet; or
put your hand or anything metal, other than the sandwich cage, into the toaster.
Always unplug the toaster when not in use, before cleaning or attempting to remove any trapped sandwich cage/food.
Never cover your toaster with a plate or anything else - it could overheat and catch fire.
Never let the cord hang down where a child could grab it.
We recommend that you do not use your toaster directly under wall cupboards.
Do not move the toaster whilst it is in operation.
Never touch hot surfaces.
Never use an unauthorised attachment or accessory.
When making sandwiches never place more than 2 slices of bread into each sandwich cage.
Never place sandwiches into the toaster without first placing them into the sandwich cage.
Never use a damaged toaster. Get it checked or repaired: see 'Service'.
Do not let infirm people use the appliance without supervision.
Do not let children use or play with the appliance.
Only use the appliance for its intended domestic use. Kenwood will not accept any liability if the appliance is subject to improper use, or failure to comply with these instructions.

This toaster complies with European Economic Community Directive 89/336/EEC.
Important – UK only
The wires in the cord are coloured as follows: Green and Yellow = Earth, Blue = Neutral, Brown = Live.
The appliance must be protected by a 13A approved (BS1362) fuse.
WARNING: THIS APPLIANCE MUST BE EARTHED.
Note:
For non-rewireable plugs the fuse cover MUST be refitted when replacing the fuse. If the fuse cover is lost then the plug must not be used until a replacement can be obtained. The correct fuse cover is identified by colour and a replacement may be obtained from your Kenwood Authorised Repairer (see Service).
If a non-rewireable plug is cut off it must be DESTROYED IMMEDIATELY. An electric shock hazard may arise if an unwanted non-rewireable plug is inadvertently inserted into a 13A socket outlet.
before using for the first time
Wrap excess cord around the cord storage device on the underside of the toaster.
Operate the toaster once with the timer set to 3 without bread.
As with all new heating elements, your toaster may emit a slight burning smell when it is first switched on. This is normal and not a cause for concern.

to use your toaster
1Raise the lever. 2 Insert the bread, muffins, bagels
etc, 3 Connect to the power supply. 4Lower the lever. 5 Select the number of slots:-
2 slot toaster (TT930 series)
Use the left hand slot when toasting
one slice of bread, a single item of
food or the sandwich cage. Select
this slot by pressing the left side of
the slot selector switch marked ‘I’.
To select both slots press the right
hand side of the slot selector switch
marked ‘II’.
4 slot toaster (TT940 series)
Depress the left hand side of the
slot selector marked ‘II’ to select
the two slots on the left hand side
of the toaster.
Depress the right hand side of the slot selector marked ‘IIII’ to select all four slots.
Important
For best results, food should be inserted into ALL the selected slots. If any slots are left empty the food will toast unevenly.
6 Use the on/off/timer control and
select the required setting. Toasting will start immediately and the slot selector switch will illuminate. It is advisable to initially start off with a lower setting until you become familiar with the toaster.
7The timer will make a ticking noise
as it counts down and when it reaches ‘0’ a bell will sound. The heating element will switch off and the slot selector indicator light will go out. The toast will NOT pop up but will keep warm inside the toaster.
8To remove the toast raise the lever.
The lever is fitted with an extra rise position which will lift the carriage to a higher position to allow for small items to be removed more easily. Important – At any time the lever can be raised to inspect or remove the toast. To switch off the elements turn the timer back to ‘0’. If the timer does not return to ‘0’ after each operation, the toaster will automatically switch off after approximately 6 minutes. To continue toasting return the timer control to ‘0’ before re-selecting the required setting.
9 After use, unplug the toaster.

hints on using your toaster
Set the timer to a lower setting for light browning.
Dry/stale bread toasts more quickly than fresh bread and thinly sliced bread toasts more quickly than thickly sliced bread. Therefore the timer should be set at a lower setting than usual.
For best results ensure that the bread slices are of an even thickness, freshness and size.
In order to achieve uniform browning we recommend setting the timer to a lower setting when consecutive batches of toasting are carried out.
This toaster will toast most types of bread, but best results are achieved with thick sliced bread.
to make toasted sandwiches.
Always use medium sliced square bread. The slices must not be bigger than the cage otherwise they may not fit into the toaster or parts of the sandwich will not be toasted.
Fillings such as thinly cut ham and individually wrapped cheese slices are suitable. Take care using ingredients that could melt and run out of the sandwich. Only use precooked ingredients or ingredients that need to be warmed up. We do not recommend the use of high fat or similar fillings that may drip into the toaster as this will be difficult to clean and could present a fire risk.
Lightly butter one side of each slice and place the filling in between the unbuttered sides.
to toast the sandwiches
1 Place the sandwich in the cage
and close.
2Lower the lever and place the
sandwich cage into the slot .
3 Select the required number of slots
on the slot selector switch.
4Turn the timer to the desired
setting and toasting will commence.
5 When the timer reaches ‘0’ or is
turned back manually, the heating element and indicator light will go out automatically.
6Remove the sandwich cage then
open it up and tip the sandwich onto a plate.
Important
Take care when handling the sandwich cage as it will be very hot. If the sandwich cage remains trapped inside the toaster, unplug the toaster and wait for it to cool down before attempting to remove it.
Take care when biting into the sandwiches as the fillings can be very hot.
hints
We recommend the use of 1 or 2 day old bread. Slices should be cleanly cut and not have ragged edges.
Do not force thick slices of bread into the toaster as difficulty may be experienced in removing them. Never insert broken pieces of bread.
care and cleaning
1 Before cleaning, unplug your
toaster and let it cool down.
2Wash the sandwich cage, then dry
thoroughly.
3Slide out the crumb tray . Clean,
then replace. Do this regularly: crumbs can smoke or even burn.
