safety
Never unscrew the boiler cap whilst the unit is pressurised. Steam will shoot out and burn you.
Don’t get burnt by the iron’s steam, hot water, soleplate or iron rest.
Keep children away from the steam station. And make sure they can’t grab the cords and pull the steam station down.
Trailing cords are a hazard, keep them out of the way to prevent accidents.
Never iron clothes being worn.
Never put the steam station, cord or plug in liquid – you could get an electric shock.
Always switch off and unplug the steam station before removing the boiler cap and filling with water.
Don’t let the power and steam supply cords touch hot parts.
During ironing pauses and after use always place the iron flat on the iron rest of the steam station.
Never leave the steam station on unattended.
Never use a damaged steam station. Get it checked or repaired: see ‘service and customer care’.
Do not use the steam station if it has been dropped, or if there are any visible signs of danger or it is leaking.
Don’t touch the appliance with wet or damp hands.
Always unplug the steam station when not in use and allow to cool before moving or cleaning.
It is extremely dangerous to direct the steam towards people or animals.
Only use water with this appliance.
During use, the steam station must be stable and used in a horizontal position.
This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.
Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
Only use the appliance for its intended domestic use. Kenwood will not accept any liability if the appliance is subject to improper use, or failure to comply with these instructions.
before plugging in
Make sure your electricity supply is the same as the one shown on the underside of the steam station.
Important – UK only
The wires in the cord are coloured as follows: Green and Yellow = Earth, Blue = Neutral, Brown = Live.
The appliance must be protected by a 13A approved (BS1362) fuse.
WARNING: THIS APPLIANCE MUST BE EARTHED. Note:
For non-rewireable plugs the fuse cover MUST be refitted when replacing the fuse. If the fuse cover is lost then the plug must not be used until a replacement can be obtained. The correct fuse cover is identified by colour and a replacement may be obtained from your Kenwood Authorised Repairer (see Service).
If a non-rewireable plug is cut off it must be DESTROYED IMMEDIATELY. An electric shock hazard may arise if an unwanted non-rewireable plug is inadvertently inserted into a 13A socket outlet.

This iron complies with European Economic Community Directive 89/336/EEC.
before using for the first time
1Remove all packaging and any
stickers or labels.
2Wind excess cord around the base
of the steam station.
3Test the iron on an old cloth to make
sure the soleplate and boiler are clean. We recommend that you allow steam to disperse by pressing the steam button in order to release any residues that may have built up during the manufacturing process.
Repeat step 3 after prolonged periods of storage.

using your steam station
1 Place the steam station on the
support of the ironing board or any other stable surface nearby with the iron sitting on the iron rest. Make sure the steam station is unplugged and that the power and steam supply cords are unrolled and not kinked.
2 Fit the cord cactus into one of the
cord cactus locations. Place the steam supply cord into one of the grooves on the other end of the cord cactus. This will keep the cord in an upright position.
filling with water
1 Unscrew the boiler cap by turning
anticlockwise.
2 Use the funnel to fill the boiler.
Maximum capacity when empty is
0.9 l. Take care not to overfill if the steam station contains water.
3Refit the cap, don’t overtighten.
Filtered water is best as it reduces limescale, prolonging the life of your steam station (Kenwood water filters are widely available). Alternatively use 50% tap water and 50% distilled water.
Do not add anything else to the water such as water from clothes driers, scented water, water from refrigerators, air conditioners, batteries, bottled mineral water or rain water. These contain organic waste or mineral elements that become concentrated when heated and cause spitting, brown staining or premature wear to the steam station.
refilling the boiler
The red low water indicator light will glow when the boiler requires filling.
NEVER UNSCREW THE BOILER CAP AS LONG AS THE BOILER IS UNDER PRESSURE.
Carry out the following procedure to release the pressure:-
1Press the steam button until the
steam stops coming out - this may take several minutes, then release the steam button.
2Wait until the red low water indicator
light comes on, then press the steam button again to release any residual steam.
3 Switch off and unplug the steam
station and wait 5 minutes.
3
4 VERY SLOWLY unscrew the boiler
cap. If any steam is heard, stop unscrewing the cap and wait until all the steam has gone. Once all the steam has gone continue to slowly unscrew the cap.
5 Use the funnel provided and slowly
refill the boiler by pouring the water down the side of the funnel. Take care not to overfill.
6 Screw the boiler cap back on until it
is completely tight.
7 Plug in the appliance. Wait for the
green ready to steam light to glow, this indicates that the steam station is ready for use.
important
Never unscrew the boiler cap whilst the appliance is connected to the power supply and whilst there is pressure inside the boiler. Never unscrew the boiler cap during ironing.
choosing the right temperature
Follow the clothes label advice. Match the dots on the label to the dots on the temperature control. If there’s no label, here’s a guide on which temperature to choose:
hints
Start on clothes needing the lowest temperature, then work upwards. (This lowers the risk of burning something because an iron switched from ‘hot’ to ‘cool’ takes time to cool down.)
For mixed fibres, eg cotton ●●● and polyester
, use the lowest suitable
temperature
●.
If in doubt, start with a low temperature on a part that won’t be seen (eg a shirt tail).
setting the temperature
Before switching on the steam station, make sure that the lock for continuous steam is in the off position by firmly pressing the lock on the left hand side of the iron. This will ensure that the steam button is released.
1 Plug the steam station into the
power supply. 2 Switch on, the blue light will glow. 3Turn the temperature control to the
temperature you want, the light
under the control will glow. When the
iron reaches the set temperature, the
light will go out. (During ironing, this
light will go on and off as your iron
maintains the right temperature.)
dry ironing
Follow the procedure above for
setting the temperature.
Care should be taken not to press
the steam button.
steam ironing
1 Make sure there is water in the
boiler. Plug into the power supply
and switch on. 2Turn the temperature control to the
desired setting. For best results
when steaming we recommend that
the temperature control should be
set to .
It is possible to vary the amount of
steam produced. If the iron is set to
move the variable steam control to
the left for minimum steam. If
●● is
selected move the variable steam
control to the middle and if
●●● is
selected move the variable control to
the right for maximum steam. 3Wait until the green ready to steam
light glows indicating that the correct
pressure has been reached. This
takes about 8 minutes. (Also wait
until the temperature control
indicator light has gone off.)
During ironing the light will turn on
and off - this is normal and indicates
steam is generated in the boiler.
4
4 Before starting to iron or if you have
not used the steam function for a few minutes or if you have recently cleaned the steam station, hold the iron away from your ironing and press the steam button several times. This will enable any cold water condensed in the pipes etc., to be removed from the steam circuit.
5To produce steam whilst ironing
clothes press the steam button. For continuous steam, press the steam button and then press the lock for continuous steam on the right hand side of the iron. To stop continuous steam, press the button on the left hand side. When using the steam function, the green ready to steam indicator light will go off.
It is possible to vary the amount of steam produced. Move the variable steam control to the right for maximum steam and to the left for minimum steam.
6 If you need to refill the boiler during
ironing, follow carefully the instructions given under ‘refilling the boiler’.
NEVER UNSCREW THE BOILER CAP AS LONG AS THE BOILER IS UNDER PRESSURE.
The red warning light will glow indicating that the level of water in the tank is low.
hints
Wool and velvet. Guide the iron 2 cm above the fabric, depressing the steam button. The power of steam smoothes away creases and revitalises the fabric. Do not pull the fabric.
Vertical ironing – suits, dresses and curtains are smoothed, renewed and put into shape again while they are hanging (see next page).
PTFE soleplate (model IC450 only)
The soleplate can be fitted when ironing delicate items such as silk. Follow the instructions given on the packaging and keep them handy for future use. Always take care when fitting, particularly if the iron is hot.
If the soleplate (Kenwood model ICSP01) is not included in pack it can be purchased separately by calling 0870 2413653 quoting part number KW675439.
steaming the creases out of curtains, hanging clothes, wall hangings
1Make sure there is water in the
boiler.
2Turn the temperature control to
.
3 When the green ready to steam light
glows pull the material slightly with one hand: hold the iron upright with the other.
4Tilt the iron forwards, then move it
down the material, pressing the steam button.
Never steam clothes being worn. Keep your hands away from the steam and soleplate.
Always ensure that the iron is facing away from the user and/or others when vertical steaming.
For material other than linen or cotton, keep the iron off the material to avoid burning it.
care and cleaning
Always switch off, unplug and allow to cool before cleaning or storing.
There is no need to empty the boiler unless you intend to leave the steam station unused for a long period of time.
5
the outside soleplate
Don’t scratch the outside by ironing anything hard eg zips.
To remove minor remains of material stuck to the soleplate, rub lengthways with a soft, damp, nonmetallic cleaning pad.
casing
Wipe with a damp cloth.
the inside important
To extend the life of your steam station and to avoid a build up of scale, it is essential that you rinse out the boiler after every 10 refills or once a month. If you live in a hard water area increase the frequency of cleaning. Do not use chemical descaling agents or vinegar as they may damage your appliance.
Before removing the boiler cap always ensure the steam station has been depressured (see page 3).
1 Fill the boiler with fresh water, rinse
then empty.
2 Always add 500ml water direct to
the boiler after cleaning to prevent damaging the steam station.
