Convenient features
The Hold feature prevents erroneous operation even when a key is pressed while the unitTs in a bag and the
Resume feature memorizes the position where playback

Please read all of the safety and operating instructions before operating this unit. For best results,
follow all warnings placed on the unit and adhere to the operating and use instructions. These
safety and operating instructions should be retained for future reference.
1. Power sources — The unit should be con
nected to a power supply only of the type

dusty or where the humidity is high. described in the operating instructions or as marked on the appliance.
11. Vibrations — Avoid placing the unit on an
unstable place such as a shelf or in a place

subject to vibrations. should be ro uted so th at they are not I ike ly to be walked on or pinched by items placed upon or against them, pay particular attention to cords at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point where they exit from the unit.
3. Enclosure removal — Never remove the en
closure. If the internal parts are touched acci dentally, a serious electric shock might occur.
4. Drop — Do not drop the unit or apply strong
shock to it. (Damage due to dropping the unit is not covered by the warranty.}
5. Ventilation — Avoid hindering the ventilation
of the unit by covering it with a cloth, etc.
12. Magnetic fields — Keep the unit away from
sources of magnetic fields such as TV sets,
speaker systems, radios, motorized toys or
magnetized objects.
13. Cleaning—Do not use volatile solvents such
as alcohol, paint thinner, gasoline, or benzine,
etc. to clean the cabinet. Use a clean dry cloth.
14. Nonuse periods—The power cord of the unit
should be ujipl ugged from the outlet when left
unused for a long period of time.
15. Damage requiring service—The unit should
be serviced by qualified service personnel
when:
g.Abnormal smell — If an abnormal smell or
smoke is detected, immediately turn the power OFF and pull out the power cord. Contact your dealer or nearest service center.
7. Heat — Avoid placing the unit under direct
sunlight or near a source of heat such as heating equipment. Particularly, never leave it in an automobile or on the dashboard.
A. The power-supply cord or the plug has
been damaged; or
B. Objects have fallen, or liquid has been
spilled into the unit; or
C. The unit has been exposed to rain; or D. The unit does not appear to operate nor
mally or exhibits a marked change in perform ance; or
E. The unit has been dropped, or the enclo
sure damaged.
8. Temperature — The unit may not function
properly if used at extremely low, or freezing temperatures. The ideal ambient temperature is above +5“C {4rF>.
16. Servicing — The user should not attempt to
service the unit beyond that described in the operating instructions. All other servicing should be referred to qualified service person
9. Water and moisture — The unit should not
nel. be used near water — for example, near a bathtub, washbowl, kitchen sink, laundry tub,
in a wet basement, or near a swimming pool,
etc.
In case of abnormality, immediately press the open key to turn the power OFF, and unplug the AC adapter from the power outlet. Then please contact your nearest KENWOOD service center.

This unit can be powered from three kinds of power supplies; batteries, mains power or car battery.
The manganese dry cell batteries which have low capacity {short service life) are not suitable for use with the unit. This unit holds the stored memory even while the power is set to OFF, and consumes a very small amount of power. Therefore, if the unit is not to be used for a long period {for more than one week), remove the batteries out of the unit.
' Never use an AC adapter other than the AC adapter
provided with this unit.
^ When the unit is not used, unplug the AC adapter from
the power outlet.
Dry cell battery operation
(T) Open the cover.
(D Insert R6/"AA"{or LR6)-
size batteries.
Be careful not to invert the 0 and © polarity.
^ Always replace both batteries at a time.

(3) Close the cover.
Note on rechargeable batteries
The rechargeable batteries should be recharged when they are used for the first time, when they have not been used for a long period or when the battery indicator blinks. The fully­charged status can be attained after about 2 hours of recharging. Be sure to use the provided rechargeable batteries or the optional NB-88/NB-77. Never use rechargeable batteries other than specified

• Recharging is not possible during playback. Be sure to
set the power OFF before starting recharging.
• The rechargeable batteries can be recharged and re used for around 500 times. When the possible play back period decreases, purchase the optional IslB-SS/
NB-77rechargeable batteries.
• Be sure to close the top cover of the unit before
proceeding to recharging.

Start recharging.

1. Set the power OFF.
2. Plug in the AC adapter.
3. Wait for 5 seconds, then press the I key
twice successively.

Connect to DC IN jack.
After recharging, unplug the AC adapter from this unit.
During recharging

The unit returns to the power OFF status.
' If batteries are recharged befor they are completely
empty, full charging may become impossible due to the properties of rechargeable batteries. If this occurs, try to recharge batteries after they have become empty: The battery capacities will recover gradually.
► Rechargeable batteries cannot be recharged while the
external battery case Is attached,
^ Do not attach the battery case during recharging.
After recharging

case.
Insert batteries.
Be careful not to invert the ® and © polarity.
(3) Attach to the main unit.
Secure by turning the screw in the direction of the arrow.
I If the battery case is not to be used for a long period,
detach it fronn the main unit Otherwise, the power of the Re/'^AA^'-size dry cell batteries will be recharged to the rechargeable batteries and the dry cell battery wilt be exhausted quickly. Also remove the dry cell batteries from the battery case.

Selects four kinds of play modes,
P.MODE key
Press to enter the programme [PGM) mode and to programme tracks in the desired order.
OPEN key
Press to open the top cover,
DSP key
Selects five kinds of tone setups.
Play/pause key
When the key is pressed, the power of the unit is turned ON. If a disc has been loaded, the playback starts at the same time. Pressing the key during playback pauses it, and pressing the key again resumes playback.
Play mode indicators
VOLUME control
Adjusts the volume.
Stop/power OFF/recharge key
When the key is pressed during playback, play back stops. Pressing the key while the unit is in stop mode turns the power OFF.
This key is also used when recharging recharge able batteries.
External power connector (DC IN)
Plug the AC adapter into this connector when the unit is powered from mains power supply.
Headphone jack (PHONES) Skip/search keys
Press to skip tracks or fast forward or reverse the played position.
