For your own safety!
General notes
It is mandatory to read and
observe this prior to using the
appliance!
— Notify your sales outlet if during
unpacking you detect damage
that has occurred in transit.
! Read the operating instructions
of your appliance prior to putting
it into operation, especially the
safety information.
— The warning signs and
information labels attached to the
unit provide important advice on
its safe operation.
— In addition to the instructions in
the operating instructions,
general safety- and accident
prevention-regulations from
lawgivers must be followed.
Use
! The unit shall be exclusively used
in accordance with the
specifications given in these
operating instructions.
! Prior to utilization the appliance
and its working facilities must be
checked regarding their proper
condition and that they operate
safely. It must not be used if its
condition is not faultless.
— The unit is intended for sweeping
inside- and outside surfaces.
— No modifications permitted on the
machine.
— Never absorb explosive liquids,
inflammable gases or undiluted
acids and solvents! This includes
petrol, paint thinner or fuel oil,
which can form explosive fumes
due to the swirling suction air, in
addition acetone, undiluted acids
and solvents, since they corrode
the materials used for the
appliance.
— Do not sweep up/absorb burning
or smouldering objects.
Only if expressly marked as such
is this appliance suitable for
sucking up health-hazardous
dust types.
Observe the safety-related notes
given in the operating instructions.
— Suitable only for the surfaces
listed in the operating
instructions.
— The appliance may be used on
only the areas cleared for its use
by the factory owner or a person
authorized by him.
— Keep clear of the danger area. Its
operation in explosion hazardous
locations is prohibited.
— The following applies generally:
Keep combustible materials away
from the machine (danger of
explosions-/fire).
Operation
— The rules, regulations and
stipulations applying to motor
vehicles must always be
observed.
— The operator must use the unit in
accordance with its intended
purpose. She must adapt her
mode of operation to the local
conditions and when working with
the appliance keep a look out for
third parties, especially children.
— The appliance may only be used
by persons instructed in its
handling or who have proved
their capability of operating it and
who are expressely authorized to
use it.
— The unit must not be operated by
children and youths.
! To prevent unauthorized
utilization of appliances provided
with an ignition key the ignition
key must be removed.
! The appliance must never be left
unattended as long as the motor
is running. The operator may not
leave the appliance until the
motor is turned off, the appliance
is safeguarded against
unintentional motion, if necessary
the parking brake actuated and
the ignition key removed.
— On slopes the angle of inclination
to the side and in the direction of
motion must not exceed the
value given in the operating
instructions.
Transport
! The motor must be turned off
when the appliance is
transported.
! Secure the machine with guy
belts, ropes or chains.
! Immobilise the machine at the
wheels with chocks.
Maintenance
! The unit must be switched off
and, if necessary, the ignition key
removed prior to cleaning it,
performing maintenance work on
it, replacing parts or resetting it to
a different operation.
! For battery-run appliances the
battery plug must be pulled out of
the socket prior to work on the
electrical equipment, i.e. the
battery is to be disconnected.
— Repairs may only be carried out
by approved customer service
centres or by technical personnel
trained in this field which are
familiar with all relevant safety
regulations.
— Industrially used appliances in
changing locations are subject to
the safety inspection according to
VDE 0701.
— Use only the main brushes/side
brushes fitted in the unit or
specified in the operating
instructions. Using other main
brushes/side brushes can be
detrimental to safety.
— The unit may not be cleaned with
a hose- or a high pressure water
jet (danger of short circuits or
other damages).
Accessories and spare parts
— Only accessories and spare parts
cleared by the manufacturer may
be used. Genuine accessories
and spare parts guarantee that
the unit can be operated safely
and trouble-free.
Riding appliances
— Riding appliances are not
approved for public highways.
Please ask your retailer for the
conversion kit for streetworthiness.
— Giving companions lifts is not
permissible.
— Riding appriances may be set in
motion only from the seat.
Battery driven appliances
— Warranty is valid only when you
use the batteries and charging
units recommended by Kärcher.
! It is mandatory to comply with the
battery manufacturer's operating
instructions. Heed the statutory
recommendations on handling
batteries.
! Never leave a battery in a run
down condition but recharge it as
soon as possible.
! Keep the batteries always clean
and dry to prevent leaking
currents. Protect it from
contamination, for example, by
metallic dust.
! When mounting the batteries in
the KM 100/100 R make
absolutely sure you also install
the battery terminal fuse. (see
maintenance work, chapter on
replacing fuses)
! Do not place tools or similar
objects on the battery. Hazard of
short circuits and explosion.
! Do not under any circumstances
work with an open flame, create
sparks or smoke near a battery
or in a battery recharging room.
Explosion hazard.
! Do not touch hot parts, for
example, the driving engine
(hazard of burns).

! Take care when handling
accumulator acid. Heed the
relevant safety regulations!
! Used batteries are to be
disposed of in an environmentally
friendly way, according to
EC-guideline 91/157 EWG.
Safety features
Safety features are provided for the
protection of the operator, and it is
forbidden to disconnent them or
circumvent their operation.
EMERGENCY STOP pushbutton
— For an instant stop of all
operations.
— To unlatch it turn it slighly to the
left or the right and then release
it.
Seat contact switch
— If the machine is left during
operation, the engine switches off
via the seat contact switch.
Risk of overturning on too
high gradients!
Danger!
The machine could topple over
when driving and turning on slopes.
— Drive only on slopes up to 18 %
in the travelling direction.
— At right angles to direction of
travel only negotiate gradients up
to a maximum of 15 %.
Risk of overturning when
taking bends rapidly!
Danger!
The machine can topple-over when
driving fast around curves.
! Drive slowly in curves.
Danger of tipping over
given an unstable travelling
surface!
Danger!
The machine can tip over given an
unstable travelling surface.
! Move the machine exclusively on
a solid travelling surface.
Danger of tipping over
given a sideways incline
that is too large!
Danger!
The machine can tip over given an
incline of more than 15 %.
For our environment
Caution, danger to the
environment from used
batteries!
Do not dispose of exhausted
batteries as ordinary household
garbage.
! Ensure environmentally
compatible disposal.
Endangerung of
environment by packaging
materials!
Domestic rubbish is not the proper
place for used packaging materials.
! Make sure that they are
ecologically recycled.
Intended use
— This sweeper is intended for
sweeping inside- and outside
surfaces.
— It is not intended for use on
public traffic routes.
— It is not suitable for health-
hazardous dusts.
Function description sweeping machine
The KM 100/100 R sweeper
operates according to the throwover principle.
— The side brush (3) cleans corners
and edges of the sweeping
surface and transports the dirt in
the path of the main brush.
— The rotating main brush (4)
transports the dirt directly into the
debris container (5).
— The dust swirled up in the
container is separated by way of
the dust filter (2) and the filtered,
clean air removed by the suction
turbine (1).

Before first operating
The sweeper has an electric drive.
The machine can be pushed only if
the trigger is pulled away from the
wheel.
(See chapter: Moving the sweeper
without its own drive)
Open/close unit cover
Open unit cover
! Swivel unit cover upwards at the
provided handle grip
When opened the unit cover is
secured by a stay bar.
! Insert the stay bar into the
adapter at the suction turbine
! To close the unit cover pull the
stay bar out of the holder and
engage it in the bracket in the
unit cover
Operating sweeping
machine without
automotive power
Danger!
Prior to manually releasing the
parking brake the sweeper is to be
secured against movement.
After the parking brake is released
the sweeper coasts unbraked.
! Pull the brake lever away from
the wheel and hold it tight in this
position
— The function of the parking brake
is thus out of action and the
sweeper can be pushed
Unloading instructions
Warning!
Generally it is not permitted for the
parking brake to be released when
loading the machine.
— The machine was secured on a
pallet with stretch belts or ropes
for safe transport. Proceed as
follows when unloading:
! Cut the plastic packing tape and
remove the film.
! Remove the blocks for securing
the wheels and drive the machine
off the pallet using a suitable
ramp.
Warning!
Do not use a fork lifter for unloading;
the machine can be damaged by it.
! Pull stay bar out of the bracket

Before every operation

! Stand sweeper on a flat surface
! Turn off key switch (position "0")

Commissioning
Adjust driver seat
! Open unit cover, engage stay bar
! Unscrew the 4 screws at the seat
contact switch plate
! Remove the plate
! Turn the seat forward
Switching on the machine
! Sit on the driver seat
! Do NOT actuate the drive pedal!
Note:
The machine is equipped with a
seat contact switch. The machine is
switched off and the parking brake
is automatically applied when the
driver leaves his seat.
Run machine
Danger
Do not stand up when driving –
danger of falling.
Prior to start of the machine
! Slightly loosen wing nuts of seat
runners
! Push the seat into the
appropriate position
! Retighten wing nuts
Note:
There is a further adjustment
possibility if the adjusting range is
insufficient
! Unscrew 4 screws of seat
mounting
! Shift seat and refasten with
screws
! Remount seat contact switch
plate
! The main brush and side brush
switches are in their upper
position
! Turn the key switch to position "I"
! The main brush and side brush

position
