USE
Operation - regulating the temperature
Turn the thermostat dial, positioned at the top right of
the compartment, clockwise to the required position
(beyond the «O» position); the most suitable setting is
between 2 and 4.
The temperature is automatically regulated; it can be
increased by turning the dial towards the lower numbers and vice versa.
When selecting the correct position, remember that
the internal temperature depends on the following factors: ambient temperature, how often the door is
opened, the amount of food stored, where the appliance is installed.
To switch off, turn the dial until it coincides with the
«O» symbol.
Important
When the refrigerator is set for the coldest temperatures, with a high surrounding room temperatur e, it will
probably be in constant use, with consequent frosting
of the back wall of the compartment. If this does in
fact occur, the knob should be set to a slightly higher
temperature.
In this way the refrigerator automatically defrosts, with
a considerable energy saving.
In addition, foods should be positioned inside the refrigerator compartment as indicated in Figure 10:
1. Cold cuts, cheese, butter, milk
2. Meat and fish
3. Fruit and vegetables.
In this position, fresh meat can be stored for 1-2
days at most.

Further hints for getting the best out of your refrigerator are the following:
Cooked foods, cold dishes, jellies, etc., should be well
covered.
Storage of foods in the refrigerator compartment
To achieve the best results with the refrigerator compartment, you shoud follow some very simple rules:
Do not put warm foods or evaporating liquids in the
refrigerator;
cover or wrap foods (particularly if they have a strong
smell or contain aromatic herbs).
Please note: Do not place foodstuffs and paperbags
etc. in contact with the evaporator plate at the rear of
the refrigerator compartment as this can lead to impairment of the operation of the refrigerator.
Fruit and vegetables should be washed before being
stored.
Raw meat (all types, including poultry) should be
stored in plastic bags.
Movable shelves
The walls of the refrigerator are equipped with a series
of runners so that the shelves can be positioned as
desired.
15
Storing deep-frozen foods
Defrosting
The compartment marked reaches a temperature of –18°C and is therefore suitable for storing icecreams and deep-frozen food.
For best use of the compartment , the following
points should be noted: ensure that the deep-frozen
products have been correctly stored by the shopkeeper; keep transport times from the shop to your home
to a minimum; do not exceed the storage period specified by the manufacturer; when the freezer has not
been used for some time; run it for at least two hours
with the thermostat dial set to the lowest temperature
before placing food inside and then reset to normal
operation; do not open the door if there is a power failure. If the compartment is full and the failure
does not last long, the food will not be affected; other wise, you are advised to consume it soon after.
Thawing
Deep-frozen or frozen food, prior to being used, can
be thawed in the refrigerator compartment or at room
temperature, depending on the time available for this
operation.
Small pieces may even be cooked still frozen, directly
from the freezer: in this case, cooking will take longer.
Ice cubes
The appliance is provided with an ice cube tray.
This tray must be filled with drinking water and placed
in the compartment.
Never use metal tools to detach the tray.
The refrigerating compartment evaporator is automatically defrosted every time the compressor stops. The
water drains out through a channel (Fig. 12) and is collected in a container at the back above the compressor where it evaporates.
In the compartment, the frost must be removed
whenever a thick layer accumulates (approx. 4 mm).
Do not use metal tools to remove the frost – they can
cause serious damage.
It is not necessary to switch the appliance off or take
the food out of the compartment during this operation.
If a thick layer of ice forms, the appliance must be
completely defrosted.
Proceed as follows:
set the thermostat dial to the «O» position or unplug
the appliance;
wrap the deep-frozen food in several sheets of news-
paper and put in a cool place;
leave the door open and, if you wish to speed up de-
frosting times, place a bowl of very hot water inside
the compartment (with a sheet of cardboard
underneath);
soak up the water that collects on the bottom with a
sponge and dry the walls thoroughly;
reset the thermostat dial to the required position or
plug the appliance in again. After running for two or
three hours, it will be ready to store deep-fr ozen foods
again.
It is important to periodically clean the defrosting
water drain hole in the middle of the refrigeration
compartment channel (Fig. 12) to prevent the water overflowing and dripping onto the food inside.
Use the special cleaner provided, which you will
find already inserted into the discharge hole.

MAINTENANCE
Unplug the appliance before carrying out any
maintenance operation.
Periodic cleaning
Clean the inside with warm water and bicarbonate of
soda.
Rinse and dry thoroughly.
Periods of non-use
When the appliance is not in use for long periods, take
the following precautions:
remove the plug from the wall socket;
remove all food;
defrost and clean the interior and all accessories;
leave the door ajar to allow air to circulate to prevent
unpleasant smells.
Interior light
The light inside the refrigerator compartment is easy
to get at through the opening in the light holder.
If the light does not come on when the door is open,
check that it is screwed into place properly.
If it still does not light up, change the bulb.
The rating is shown on the light bulb cover.

SERVICING
If a fault occurs, check the following before calling the
Servicing Department:
The light does not come on when you open the
door.
Check that the bulb is powered. If the electricity supply is OK, replace the bulb.
The compressor does not work.
Check that it is powered. Check that the thermostat is
in operative mode.
The compressor runs continuously.
The thermostat is set too high.
Traces of water on the bottom of the refrigeration
compartment.
Check that the defrosting water discharge hole is not
obstructed (Fig. 12).
If the fault persists after carrying out the above
checks, call your nearest Servicing Centre.
For quick service it is important when telephoning to
give the number of the model and the serial number,
both of which can be found on the serial number plate
inside at the bottom left of the appliance.
