READ THIS INSTRUCTION SHEET AND THE SAFETY WARNINGS
CAREFULLY BEFORE INSTALLING, AND SAVE IT FOR FUTURE USE
Part No. 24-85638-1214, Rev. E
Issue Date June 14, 2010
General Features
•Network Room Modules (NRMs) are designed for use with
Johnson Controls® Facility Explorer FX06, FX07, FX14, and FXVMA
Field Controllers.
•The Liquid Crystal Display (LCD), alo ng with a dial and push button(s) on
the front of the NRM, allow the occupant to view and adjust the setpoint
temperature in the controller, and to manually override the speed of the
fan in the controlled equipment.
•The NRM connects to the Local Link Display Bus of the FX field
controller. Configure the NRM with the FX Builder programming tool,
which is part of the FX Tools Pro Software package.
•The LP-NRM0xx-000C Series NRM requires a 15 to 24 VAC/VDC power
supply from the FX Control ler or from an e xternal p ower so urce, and has
a 4-pin service port (Figure 6).
•The LP-NRM5xx-000C and LP-NRM6xx-000C Series NRMs require a
15 VDC power supply from the FX Controller or from an external power
source, and have a 6-pin Modular Jack service port (Figure 6).
North American Emissions Compliance
United States
This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a
Class A digital device pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits
are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interferen ce
when this equipment is operated in a commercial environment. This
equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if
not installed and used in accordance with the instruction manual, may
cause harmful interference to radio communications. Operation of this
equipment in a residential area is likely to cause harmful interference, in
which case the user will be required to correct the interference at his/her
own expense.

Mounting
The NRM mounts directly on a wal l surface in the roo m you want to control .
Choose a location for the NRM while considering th e following information:
•Place the room module where the o ccupant can easily read the LCD an d
use the controls.
•Place the module where the ambien t temperature is represe ntative of the
general room conditions if you want to use the built- i n temperature
sensor to measure space temperature. For example, there should be a
sufficient amount of ai r circulation.
•Avoid cold or warm air drafts, radiant heat, and direct sunlight.
•Place some insulating material in the wiring access hole or conduit to
prevent the introduction of air fro m outside the room.

Figure 2: Removing the Cover from the Base
1. Remove the retaining screw (if inserted) from the top of the module
enclosure.
2. Remove the module cover from the base by inserting a pointed tool into
the narrow slot at the center top of the cover. While pressing down
gently, pry the base away from the cover. As the two parts separate,
remove the tool and continue to pull the cover away from the base until
the cover is free.
Figure 3: Wall Mounting Base Dimensions, mm (in.)
1. Hold the module base on the wall to cover the electrical outlet and mark
the position of at least two holes. Drill the holes and insert the plastic
plugs (wall anchors) into the holes.
2. Mount the module base on the wal l and secure with at least two screws.
For other mounting options, see Ordering Codes and refer to the
corresponding installation sheets.
Addressing
Figure 4: Dual-Switch DIP Switch Block
NRM models which are not addressable have a fixed physical address of
191. For those models which are addressable, the NRM's address must be
set using its dual-switch DIP switch block, locat ed on the printed wiring
board. See Table 1 for details on addressing the NRM.
Note: You must cycle power to the NRM (disconnect/reconnect the NRM
or cycle power to the field controller) for the address chang e to t ake
effect.

Wiring
CAUTION: Risk of Electric Shock.
Disconnect power supply before making electrical
connections to avoid electric shock.
IMPORTANT: The Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor
(CMOS) circuits in the controller are sensitive to static electr icity.
Take suitable precautions.
IMPORTANT: The LP-NRM0xx-000C Series NRM accepts VAC or
VDC power. The LP-NRM5xx-000C and LP-NRM6xx-000C Series accept VDC power only.
IMPORTANT: Use this NRM Room Command Module only as an
operating control. Where failure or malfunction of the NRM could
lead to personal injury or property damage to the contro lled
equipment or other property, additional precautions must be
designed into the control system. I ncorporate and maintain other
devices, such as supervisory or alarm systems or safety or limit
controls, intended to warn of or protect agai nst failure or
malfunction of the NRM.
IMPORTANT: The installation of electrical wiring must conform to
local codes and should be carri ed out by authorized per sonnel only.
Users should ensure that all Johnson Controls products are used
safely and without risk to health or property.

Figure 5: Terminal Block Connection
•Terminations are made on the terminal block in the base of the module,
which is accessible after removing the cover from the base.
•The screw terminals accept up to 1.5 mm
•Keep low-voltage wiring separated from power line voltage wiring.
•Do not run wiring close to transformers or high frequency generating
equipment.
•Complete and verify all wiring connections before applying power to the
module.
•Use screw terminals RT+, RT-, and COM to connect to the FX controller
display (local ink) bus terminals (LL+, LL-, and COM, respectively).
Note: RT+ and RT- are polarity sensitive and are not interchangeable.
•If shielded cable is used, connect the shield to a clean earth ground at
one end only.
•Connect the power supply voltage to the terminals as marked:
- 15-24 VAC/VDC and COM (common) for the LP-NRM0xx-000C
Series NRM
- 15 VDC and COM (common) for the LP-NRM5xx-000C and
LP-NRM6xx-000C Series NRMs
2
(16 AWG) wires.
Service Port
The service port is located on the lower edge of the module. There are two
different types of service ports, depending on the NRM Series you are
using:
4-Pin Service Port
See Figure 6 for service port wiring for LP-NRM0xx-000C Series NRM.
Use the 4-pin service port to download app lications into the connected FX
Controller using the Programming Key (pass-through feature). The NRM
supplies power to the Programming Key.
6-Pin Modular Jack Service Port
See Figure 7 for service port wiring for LP-NRM5xx-000C and
LP-NRM6xx-000C Series NRMs.
Use the 6-pin Modular Jack service p ort to connect a Medium User
Interface (MUI) for monitoring and adjusting parameters in the control
application of the connected FX controlle r. The NRM supplies power to the
MUI from the FX controller through the 6-p i n Modular Jack service port.
