operator. During hard-wiring of the machine,
make sure the f uses have been removed or the
breakers have been tripped in the circuit to
which the machine will be connected. Place a
warning placard on the fuse holder or circuit
breaker to prevent it being turned on while the
machine is being wired.
Grounding Instru ct io ns
This machi ne must be grounded. In the ev ent of
a malfuncti on or breakdown, grounding prov ides
a path of l east resistance for elect ric current to
reduce the risk of el ect ri c shock.
Improper connection of the equipmentgrounding conductor can result in a risk of
electric shock. The conductor with insulation
having an outer surface that is green with or
without yellow stripes, is the equipmentgrounding conductor . If r epair or r eplac ement of
the electric cord or plug is necessary, do not
connect the equi pment-grounding c onduc tor to a
live terminal.
Check with a qualified electrician or service
personnel if the grounding instructions are not
completely understood, or if in doubt as to
whether the tool i s properly gr ounded. Repai r or
replace a damaged or worn cord im m ediately.
Make sure the voltage of your power supply
matches the specif ications on the m otor pl ate of
the belt grinder.
It is recommended that the single-phase belt
grinder be connected to a dedicated, minimum
50 amp circuit with a 50 amp circ uit breaker or
time-delay fuse; the three p hase belt gri nder (at 230 volt operati on) be c onnect ed to a dedi cated
minimum 30 amp circuit with a 30 amp circuit
breaker or tim e delay f use; and the t hree phase
belt gri nder ( at 460 volt operation) be c onnec ted
to a dedicated, minim um 15 am p circuit with 15
amp circuit breaker or time delay fuse. Local
codes take precedence over recommendations.
Electrical connections must
be made by a qualified electrician in
compliance with all relevant codes. This
machine must be properly grounded to help
prevent electrical shock and possible fatal
injury.
The belt grinder is equipped with a singl e phase
230 volt only motor; or a 3-phase 230/460V
(prewired 230V) motor. A plug is not included.
You may either install a UL/CSA listed plug
suitable for the specified voltage, or hard-wire
the machine dir ectly t o a servi c e panel.
If the machine is to be hard-wired to a panel,
make sure a disconnect is available for the
7.4 Voltage Conversion (3PH only)
To convert t he 3-phase belt gri nder from 230 to
460 volt operation:
1. Switch the incomi ng power leads according
to the diagram inside the motor junction box.
Similar diagram s are found i n Section 13 of
this manual. (In case of discrepancy, the
diagrams in t he motor junction box will take
precedence.)
2. Make sure connections to transformer are
suitable for the new v oltage.
3. If a plug is being used, install a UL/CSA
listed plug suit able for 460 volt operation.

The use of extensi on c or ds i s discouraged; try t o
position machines within reach of the power
source. If an extension cord becomes
necessary, m ake sure the cord rat ing is suit able

plate. An undersized cord will cause a drop in
line voltage resulting in loss of power and
overheating.
Use Table 1 as a general guide i n choosing the
