Safety

Precautions

1. Usethe three-prongedplugonlywith a groundingreceptacleto provideprotectionfrom
electricalshock, Thisappliancemustbe installedin accordancewiththe installationand

groundinginstructionson page 4-5.

2. Unplugyourrefrigeratorbeforecleaningcondenser,replacinga lightbulb,or makingany
repairs. Anyservicing shouldbe performedbya qualifiedtechnician.

3. In caseof power failure, minimizedoor openings. If power failure is of longduration,
protectfrozenfood byplacingblocksof dryiceon top ofthe packages,or check with a

local frozen foods locker plant about temporary storage. Frozen foods which have
l_hawedcompletelyshould not be refrozen.

4. Any electric service cord that becomes frayed or damaged should be immediately
repairedor replaced. Neverunplug yourapplianceby pullingon the powercord.

5. Your refrigeratorshould notbe operatedin the presenceof explosivefumes.

6. Removethe doors from any out-of-use refrigeratorto preventchild entrapment and
suffocation.

7. Do not place fingers or hands on the automatic ice making mechanism while the
refrigeratorispluggedin. Thiswillhelpprotectyoufrompossibleinjury. Itwill alsoprevent
interferencewith movingparts of theejectormechanismandthe heatingelementthat

releasesthe cubes.

Installation

Location

If you are installingyour new refrigeratoryourself, pleasefollowthese helpfulsuggestions.

1. Removebase skids. ._ldl

2. Removeallexteriorandinteriortapecarefullyandretainold
tape. Makeasmallpadofthistapetopickoffany remaining

taperesidues. Thiswilleliminatethe needto usedanger-
oussolvents of anykind.

3. Removeand discardthe cantilever shelf packingclipslocatedjust above each shelf
wherethey hook ontothe frame. To removethe redplasticclip,wiggle itsidewaysand

pull straightout.

4. Selecta locationforyournewrefrigeratorawayfromanyheatsources. Allowafreeflow
of air throughthe front base grille.

5. Your modelshould not be installedwhere the room temperaturewill go below55oF.
becauseitwill notrunfrequentlyenoughto maintainpropertemperatureinthe freezer.

Leveling Is Important

Toenhanceitsappearance,maintainefficientperformanceandfor properfunction ofthe ice
maker,your refrigeratorshouldbelevel. Usinga carpenter'slevel,checkyour refrigeratort¢

make sure it is levelfrontto backand sideto side. The frontwheels were adjustedat the
factorysothe cabinetwouldbe level. However,jarring intransit, orstandingthe refrigerator

on an unevenfloor may causethe cabinet toappear unlevel.

If leveling is necessary, remove the base

grilleandadjustthewheelwithascrewdriver _TURN CLOCKWISETO

Iftheflooris notleveland it isnecessaryto

raise the rear of the cabinet,we suggest TURNCOUNTER-CLOCKWISE

rollingthe rear wheels on to a piece of TOLOWERCABINETCORNER
plywoodor othershimmaterial.

pronged grounding plug for your protection

Changing Reversible Doors (Non-Dispenser Models Only)

Your refrigeratormayhavebeen builtwiththe doors hingedtothe rightor hingedto theleft.
Refer tothe followinginstructionsfordoor reversal.

Changing Doors

1. Turnthe freshfood controlto OFFand removeallfood fromthe interior.

2. Usinga 5/16"socketandratchet,removethescrewsfrom theupperhinge. Carefullylift
thedoor (includingupperhinge)offofthe centerhingeandplaceitonapaddedsurface
to prevent scratching. Avoid losingthe spacer that was betweenthe hinge andthe
cabinet top.

3. Unscrewthehingepinoutof thecenterhingeonthetop
of the lowerdoor. Carefully liftthe lowerdoor offthe

lower hinge and place it on a padded surface. If the
metal hinge pin pulls out of the lower hingewhen the
doorisremoved,pullitoutofthe doorbottomandpress
it back into the hinge.

4. Usinga phillipsscrewdriver, removethe handles from
the door edges. Remove the handle end caps on

ModelsJRTE198 and JRTE218. To attach the han-
dlesandendcapsto therightside,firstremovethe plug

buttons. Invertthe handlesand endcaps and attach _=
withscrews. Press theplug buttons into the opposite

sideof the door.

5. Usinga puttyknife,prytheplugbuttoncoverfromthemetalbushingatthetopofthedoor.
Savethe coverfor future use.

6. Lifttheupperhingeandthespacerwashersfromthedoorandinstallthemat theopposite

corner,

7. Positionthe plugbutton cover,saved fromstep5, overthe oldhingebushing andpress
it into place.

8. Pryoutthe3plasticplugbuttonsfromthecabinet top and pressthem intothe opposite
corner.

9. Withthe T25socket wrenchand5/16" socket andratchet, removethescrewsfromthe
centerhinge and spacerfrom the cabinet. Transferthe (2)screwsfromthe leftend of

thedivider bartothe rightend, Installthe centerhingeand spaceron the left endofthe
dividerbarthe samewayitwasinstalledonthe rightend. Tightenbothscrewsuntilthey
arejust snug,then turn themone-halfturn more.

10. Prythe plugcoverfromthe metalbushingat thetopofthelowerdoorandpressintothe
metalbushingon the oppositesideof thedoor.

11. Removethe basegrille by graspingat both endsand pulling it straightout.

12. Remove the hingecover by squeezingboth sidestogether.

13. Use a5/16" socketand ratchet to removethetwoscrewsfromthe bottomhinge. Save
the spacer.

"- 14. Pullthe metalhingepinfromthesideofthelowerhingeandplaceit,includingthespacer

washer,into the top hole.

15. Pry outthe twoscrewhole plugbuttonson the bottomleft sideof thetop door andlower
door. Removethe door stops(metalplate) on the bottomof each doorand installthem
on oppositesides. Press intheplugbuttonsintheholeson therightsideof bothdoors.

16. Setthelowerdooronthe bottomhinge,makingsurethehingepin entersthebushingin
thedoor bottom.

17. Whileholdingthe door ina closed position,take the center hingepin thatwasremoved
in step3 andinsert itthroughthe lefthole of the center hingeandinto the bottom door

bushing. Makesure the longpin goes intothe bottomdoor and theshort pin goes into

the top door.

18. Set the upperdoor on the center hinge, making sure the hinge pin entersthe door
bushing. When you closethe door,the gasket should hold it in place.

19. Makingsure to usethe samenumberof spacers that wereoriginally used beneaththe
upperhinge, installthe hingemountingscrews. Beforetighteningthese screws,make

surethe topofthe door islevelwith thecabinettop,andthespace betweenthedooris
equidistantacrosstheentirefront. Avoidover-tighteningthesescrews. Tightenbothuntil
they are just snug, then turn them in another one-halfturn.

20. Examinethedoor gasketallaroundeach door,makingsure nogapsarevisiblebetween
thegasket andcabinet. Ifa gap shows,trystretchingthe gasketawayfrom thedoorso
the magnetwill contactthe cabinet surface.

21. To replacethebasegrille,line upits springclips withthesquare openingsin the cabinet
and tap each end in untilthe gnllelocks in place. Replace hingecover.

22. Replaceall foodandreturn the fresh food control to its usualoperatingposition.
