Read this manual, New features have dramatically changed today's cooking appliances and the way we cook. Therefore, it is very important to understand
how your new cooktop operates. On the following pages you will find informa-
tion regarding its operation. By following these instructions carefully, you will be
able to fully enjoy and properly maintain your new Jenn-Air cooktop.
If something goes wrong, check the "Before You Call for Service" section of this manual. It is designed to solve common problems you may encounter.

Itis normalfor somepartsof thecooktop,especiallyareassurroundingthe
surfaceelements,to becomehot duringcookingoperations.Do not touch thecooktop untilit has cooled.
Neverleavesurfacecookingoperationsunattendedathighheatsettingor when deep fat frying. Boilovers cause smokeand greasy spilloversmay
ignite.

Use dry, sturdypotholders.Damp potholders on hot surfaces maycause burnsfrom steam.Towelsor ether bulky itemsshould never be used as
potholders.Donotlet potholderstouchhot heatingelements.
Always letquantitiesof hot fatcool beforeattemptingto moveor handle.
Do not let greaseor other flammablematerialsaccumulatein or nearthe
appliance,hood or ventfan.Clean hoodfrequentlyto preventgreasefrom accumulatingonhoodor filter.
Makesurethe dripbowlsareinplace.Absenceofthesebowlsduringcook- ingmaysubjectwiring or componentsunderneathto damage.

Use properpan size.This applianceis equippedwith oneor moresurface elementsofdifferentsizes.Selectutensilshavingflat bottomslargeenough to coverthe surfaceelement.Theuseof undersizedutensilswill exposea
portion of the heatingelementto directcontactand may resultJnthe igni- tion of clothing.The proper relationshipof the utensil to the elementwill also improveefficiency.
Use pans with flat bottoms and handles that are easily graspedand stay cool.Avoidusingunstableor loose handledpans.
Besureutensilis largeenoughtoproperlycontainfoodandavoidboilovers.
Pansizeis particularlyimportantin deep fat frying.

Tominimizeburns, ignitionofflammable materialsand spillagedue to un- intentionalcontact with the utensil,do not extend handlesover adjacent
surfaceelements.Alwaysturn pan handlestoward the side or backof the appliance,not out into the room where they are easily hit or reachedby
smallchildren.
Neverleta panboildry asthiscoulddamagetheutensilandtheappliance.
Onlycertain types ofglass,glass/ceramic,ceramic,or glazedutensils are
suitable for cooktop without breaking due to the sudden change in tem-
perature.
This appliance has been tested for safe performanceusing conventional
cookware.Donot use any devicesor accessoriesthat arenotspecifically
recommendedinthis manual.Donotuse eyelidcoversforthesurfaceunits
or stovetop grills.The use ofdevicesor accessoriesthatare not expressly
recommendedin this manual can create serioussafety hazards,result in
performanceproblems,and reducethe lifeofthe componentsofthe appli- ance.
Clean onlyparts listedin this manualand useproceduresrecommended.
Turnoffallcontrolsandwait for appliancepartsto cool beforetouchingor
cleaningthem.
Cleancooktopwith caution.Usecaretoavoidsteamburnsifa wetsponge
orclothisusedto wipespillsona hotsurface.Somecleanerscan produce noxiousfumes if applied to a hot surface.
Do notsoakor immersetheremovableheatingelementsinwater. Immers-
ing an element in water would damagethe insulating material insidethe element.
Do not usealuminumfoil to line thesurface unit drip bowls. Improperin-
stallationof these liners mayresultin a riskof electric shockor fire.

Yourcooktopunitisequippedwithcontrol knobsthatprovidean infinitechoice of heat settings from LO to HI.The knobcan be set on any of the numbered
settingsor betweenthe numberedsettings. To operate control: Pushdown and turn the knob in either direction to the
desiredsetting.A redsignallight will turn on to indicatethat one or moreof the surfaceelementsare on.
Whenthe control is in any position, other than OFF,it may be turned in any direction without pushing down. After a cooking operation, be sure the ele-
mentsandindicator light are OFF.
Turnthe control knobto the desiredheatsetting.Ifindoubt,it is betterto select
a lower settingand increaseto a higher one later if needed.It willtake longer forthe elementto coolto a lowertemperaturethan to heatupto a highertem-
perature. Usethe followingchart as a guidelineuntilyoubecomemorefamiliarwith your
newcooktop.Informationinthe chart is basedonthe useof heavygaugemetal
cookware. Other pan materials may require a different heat setting for the samecooking operation.

Heavygaugecookwarewith flat,smoothbottomswill usuallyworkin a similar way. However,there are some differences in the cooking performance of
variousmaterials.
Aluminumcookwareheatsquicklyandevenly. Bestsuitedfor simmering, braising,boiling andfrying.
Stainlesssteelcookwarewill evenlydistributeheat ifconstructedof tri-ply or combined with other metals such as aluminum and copper. Use for
cookingfunctionssimilarto aluminum.
Castiron cookwareisslewto heatbutcooksmoreevenlyoncetemperature is reached. Usefor longterm lowheatcooking orfor browningand frying.
Glassceramic,earthenware,heat-proofglass or glazed cookwarecan be usedif recommendedbythe manufacturerforsurfacecooking. Donotuse
with trivets. Best usedon lowto mediumcontrol settings.
Porce/ainenamel-on-stee/orporcelainenamel-on-castironshouldbeused accordingto manufacturer'sdirections. Do not allow to boildry.
WARNING:Beforecleaning,becertainall elementsare turned offand the
cooktopand elementsarecool.
All spillovers,especially acid spillovers,should be wiped up as soon as possible with a dry cloth.To preventpossible crackingor chipping of the porcelain,neverwipe off a warm or hot surfacewith a damp cloth.
When thesurfaceis cool,cleanwithwarm,soapywater.
Do not use abrasiveor causticcleaningagentson the porcelainenamel
finishfortheywillpermanentlydamagethefinish.
Surfaceelementsare selfcleaning.Do notimmersetheelementsin water. Toremove; Raisethe elementWHEN COOLand carefullypullout and away
fromthe receptacle.

To replace: Inserttheterminalsof the elementintothe receptacle.Gentlylift upontheouteredge ofthe elementwhileguidingthe terminalsintothe recep-
tacle.Gentlypressdownontheouteredgeoftheelementuntilthe elementsits levelonthedripbowl.
Removethe knobsfor cleaningbygently pulling up.Washwith mild detergent andwater.Donot useabrasivecleaningagentsasthey willscratchthefinishor
removemarkings.Rinse,dry and replaceto the OFF position.Control knobs mayalsobewashed in a dishwasher.
Usemildcleansers,such as soapywateror mild liquidsprays,suchas 409 or Fantastik.Wipe with sponge, damp cloth or paper towel. Do not scrub with
S.O.S.padsor abrasivecleaners.
Makesurethe drip bowlsare in place.Absenceof thesebowlsduring cooking
maysubjectwiring or componentsunderneathto damage.
Donot usealuminumfoilto linesurfaceunit dripbowls.Improperinstallationof
these linersmayresultin riskof electricshockor fire.
Dripbowlswilldiscolororcrazeover timeorif overheated.Thisdiscolorationor
crazingis permanent.However,it will notaffectcooking performance.
The drip bowls should be wiped after each use. For lightsoil wipe with a soapycloth. For mediumsoilusea mild abrasivecleaner or plasticscour- ing pad.Topreventscratching,do not use any abrasivecleaningagents.If
heavilysoiled,place anammonia-soakedpapertowelon stainsto loosen
soil,thengentlyscrub.Burnedonsoilmaybe impossibleto remove.Washing chromedripbowlsina dishwasheris not recommended.
Blue/gold stains are caused by overheating.These stains usually occur overa periodoftimeand are permanent.Tominimizeheat stains:
1.Avoidexcessiveuseofthehighheatsetting.Use itonlyto startcooking, then lowertheheat settingto finishcooking.
2. Useflat bottompansthat do notextendmore than two inchesbeyond theelement.If large pansorcannersare used,alternatethe elements
used.
