Congratulations on choosing JBL LX Series loudspeakers.
JBL LX series loudspeakers are designed using the technologies that have made JBL the world’s most famous brand of loudspeakers.
Wherever loudspeakers are important, integral parts of musical performances - in opera houses, in football stadiums or at rock concerts - JBL is the loudspeaker brand of choice.
By using only the best available materials and devoting careful attention to details, JBL is certain that your JBL speakers will provide many years of excellent performance.
The instructions in this manual will help you realize the full potential of your loudspeakers.
PLACEMENT
JBL LX Series loudspeakers are designed to produce the best possible sound when located at some distance from walls and corners. Approximately 1 m is preferable. Placement in corners or close to walls will increase the amount of bass, but not necessarily the quality of the bass. If such placement is unavoidable it is recommended that you use the tone controls on your amplifier or receiver to reduce the bass.
The bookshelf-size loudspeakers should not be placed on the floor, but will greatly benefit from placement on an open, rigid stand 35-50 cm high, which will place the high frequency unit at ear level, which is important for the creation of the best possible stereo image. Placement of the speaker on a high quality stand will improve the accuracy of the bass, which again will lead to the most dynamic, expressive reproduction.
We strongly advise that you consult your JBL dealer for advice and demonstration.
Should you want to mount your JBL LX speaker on the wall, it is recommended to use a strong bracket. A distance of 2-4 cm from the wall will allow the rear panel mounted reflex port to work, while complete closing of the port will reduce the deepest bass.
For the best stereo image the two loudspeakers in the stereo system should be placed at the same distance from your listening position, and separated by an angle of 40° to 60° (see illustration). For example, if your listening position is 2.4-3.6 m from each speaker, the two speakers should be 2-2.4 m apart.
Since every room is different, and since room acoustics are very important to the overall sound, we strongly recommend that you experiment to find the placement that gives you the most pleasing results.
INSTALLATION OF SPIKES (LX2003, 2004 and 2005)
Spikes isolate the speaker from floor vibrations. To install the spikes, follow these directions:

3.Screw the spikes into the threaded mounting sockets.
4.Adjust the spikes so they all are at the same height, then tighten the nuts to prevent the spikes from changing height, or from rocking side to side.

CONNECTIONS
NOTE: LX2004 and LX2005 have dual pairs of gold-plated terminals. For normal connection with a single run of loudspeaker cable, the metal bars between the High and Low inputs MUST be in place. Connect cable only
to the inputs marked High. For separate cable connections to the Low and High inputs, see next section BI-WIRING.
Connect the loudspeakers to your amplifier or receiver using two-conductor insulated wire.
We recommend 1.5mm2 wire as a minimum size for cable runs of up to 5 m. If your loudspeakers have to be placed at greater distance from your amplifier or receiver you should use heavier wire. Too thin wire or too long wire runs can result in the sound from
the loudspeaker being different than intended, but will not do any harm. We recommend that you consult your dealer, who will be happy to assist you in this matter.
For each channel, the red terminal on the loudspeaker should be connected to the red (+) loudspeaker terminal on the amplifier or receiver, and the black terminal on the loudspeaker to the black (–) loudspeaker terminal on the amplifier or receiver. Connecting the loudspeakers in this manner ensures that they will have the same polarity (“in phase”). Connecting the loudspeakers with different polarity will not damage them, but will result in less bass and a poor stereo image. This can be determined by listening to a solo voice: if the voice can be located in the space between the two loudspeakers, the speakers are connected with the same polarity. If not, the voice will sound diffuse and be difficult to place in the space.
Most two-conductor wire is color-coded or has a ridge on one of its insulating jackets, so that you can easily identify which wire is connected to which terminal.
When connecting more than one pair of loudspeakers to an amplifier or receiver consult your dealer or amplifier manufacturer to ensure that the resulting load can be handled safely.
BI-WIRING
LX2004 and LX2005 have dual pairs of gold-plated terminals and can be bi-wired. Before bi-wiring, ALWAYS remove the metal bars between the High and Low inputs. Bi-wiring will improve resolution and dynamics. For even greater improvement, you may use two amplifiers (bi-amping).
DANGER: LOW POWER
Generally, loudspeakers can withstand a great deal of power, as long as the signal is undistorted. You can safely use a power amplifier with a power rating greater than the loudspeaker’s recommended power, as long as the amplifier is not driven beyond it limits. When amplifiers are overdriven, they “clip” the signal, creating distortion which appears as a high frequency signal. These high frequency signals are directed to the high frequency transducer by the crossover network, thereby creating a dangerous condition for the smallest driver in the loudspeaker system.
The smaller the amplifier you use, the greater the danger of overdriving the amp, and consequently the greater the potential danger to the high frequency transducer.
Excessive boost of the tone controls of the amplifier or receiver can also aggravate the situation.
Always use an amplifier or receiver that will make your LX loudspeakers play reasonably loud and at the same time sound clean and undistorted.
LX2000 CENTER CHANNEL
For surround sound systems, the JBL LX Series includes a dedicated center channel loudspeaker. LX2000 Center is magnetically shielded for safe use near the picture tube and should be placed directly on top of or beneath the television set. The front edge of LX2000 Center should be on a line with the front edge of the television. LX2000 Center must be connected in phase to the amplifier/receiver, i.e. plus-to-plus and minus-to-minus, exactly like the left and right front loudspeakers.
GENERAL CARE
JBL LX Series loudspeaker systems are constructed of high quality MDF-board, superior to solid wood in its acoustic properties. They are built to give many years of trouble-free service, and do not require special attention.
Occasional dusting with a clean, soft cloth will maintain the original beauty of the finish. Furniture waxes, polishes or cleaners are not recommended.
The grille may be gently vacuumed, and stains can be removed with an aerosol cleaner, following the manufacturer’s instructions. Never use any solvents to clean any part of the system.
SERVICE
Should your JBL LX Series loudspeaker ever need service, return it to the JBL dealer from whom it was purchased. If for some reason this is impractical, contact your local JBL distributor.

Ob in Opernhäusern, Theatern, Kinos, Aufnahmestudios oder bei Life-Konzerten, stets repräsentiert JBL den gegenwärtigen Stand der Technik. Die LX-Boxen wurden für die HiFi-Wiedergabe im Wohnraum entwickelt und bilden diesbezüglich keine Ausnahme.
Hochwertige Materialien und Liebe zum Detail gewährleisten eine exzellente Musikwiedergabe über viele Jahre hinweg.
Diese Betriebsanleitung mag Ihnen helfen, Ihre LX-Lautsprecher optimal aufzustellen, anzuschließen und uneingeschränkt zu geniessen.
AUFSTELLUNG
Am besten klingen die LX-Boxen von JBL, wenn sie 70 bis 100 cm von den Zimmerwänden entfernt stehen. An einer Wand oder gar in Raumecken produzieren Lautsprecher zwar kräftigere Bässe, die Präzision und die räumliche Wiedergabe werden jedoch durch starke Reflexionen an den Wänden stark beeinträchtigt.
Ist die Aufstellung an einer Wand unumgänglich, dann sollten Sie wenigstens versuchen, einen Mindestabstand von 70 cm einzuhalten. Am besten klingen Regalboxen aber auf einem 40 bis 50 cm hohen Standfuß, weit entfernt von großen reflektierenden Wandflächen oder Möbeln.
Die Hochtöner, also die kleinsten Chassis hinter der abnehmbaren Stofabdeckung, sollten sich bei allen Boxen ungefähr in Ohrhöhe befinden, damit auch hohe Obertöne klar und deutlich hörbar werden.
Für eine optimale Stereo-Wiedergabe darf der Abstand zwischen beiden Boxen ruhig etwas kleiner sein als der Abstand zur Hörposition (s. Abbildung). Befinden sich die Lautsprecher zum Beispiel 4 Meter von Ihnen entfernt, so ist ein Abstand von rund 3 Metern zwischen den Boxen völlig ausreichend.
Da die Eigenakustik jedes Wohnraums den Klang maßgeblich beeinflusst, zögern Sie bitte nicht, den besten Standort für die Lautsprecher durch Versuche zu ermitteln.
SPIKES EINSETZEN (LX2003, 2004 und 2005)
Spikes isolieren den Lautsprecher von Vibrationen des Bodens. Setzen Sie die Spikes wie folgt ein:

1.Stellen Sie den Lautsprecher auf den Kopf, so dass der Boden nach oben zeigt.
2.Versehen Sie jeden der Spikes mit einer Schraubenmutter und drehen Sie diese soweit ein, bis sie den gewindelosen Teil des Spikes erreicht.
3.Drehen Sie die Spikes in die jeweiligen Einschraubgewinde.
4.Justieren Sie die Spikes so, dass alle die gleiche Höhe haben. Drehen Sie dann die Schraubmuttern fest. Auf diese Weise kann sich die Höhe der Spikes nicht mehr verändern und sie können nicht wackeln.
VERKABELUNG
HINWEIS: Die Lautsprecher LX 2004 und LX 2005 besitzen 2 Paar vergoldete Anschlussklemmen. Falls Sie den Lautsprecher mit nur einem Stereo-Lautsprecherkabel
anschließen wollen, dürfen Sie die Metallbügel zwischen den Eingängen „High“ und „Low“
auf keinen Fall entfernen. Wie Sie getrennte Zuleitungen zu den Eingängen „High“ und „Low“ anschließen, entnehmen Sie bitte dem
Abschnitt „Bi-Wiring“.
Jeder LX-Lautsprecher ist mit zweiadrigem, isoliertem Kabel an einen Verstärker oder Receiver anzuschließen. Die Querschnittsfläche der Kabeladern sollte etwa 1,5 mm2 betragen, und die Adern müssen z.B. durch verschiedene Farben oder Riffelung vonein-
ander unterscheidbar sein. Sind Lautsprecher-Kabel von weit über 5 m Länge erforderlich, so empfehlen wir größere Querschnittsflächen (z.B. 2,5 mm2), um Leistungsverluste auszuschließen. Im Zweifelsfall wird Sie Ihr Fachhändler gerne beraten. Vor der Inbetriebnahme ist die rote Plusklemme (+) der linken Box ist mit der roten Plusklemme (+) des linken Lautsprecher-Ausgangs am Verstärker oder Receiver zu verkabeln, und die schwarze Minusklemme (–) der linken Box mit der schwarzen Minusklemme (–) des linken Verstärker-Ausgangs. Entsprechend ist anschließend mit dem rechten Stereo-Kanal vorzugehen.
Bitte verbinden Sie die roten Plusklemmen der Boxen und des Verstärkers oder Receivers immer mit der farblich bzw. durch Riffelung markierten Kabelader. Denn werden Plusund Minusleitung einer Box miteinander vertauscht, arbeiten der linke und der rechte Lautsprecher gegenphasig, was zwar ungefährlich ist, aber die Wiedergabequalität erheblich beeinträchtigt.
Falls Sie mehr als ein Lautsprecherpaar anschließen wollen, lesen Sie bitte vorher in der Bedienungsanleitung Ihres Verstärkers oder Receivers nach, unter welchen Bedingungen das möglich ist. Im Zweifelsfall fragen Sie bitte Ihren Fachhändler.
BI-WIRING
Die Lautsprecher LX 2004 und 2005 verfügen über 2 Paar vergoldete Anschlussklemmen und lassen sich für Bi-Wiring-Betrieb verwenden. Wenn Sie mit Bi-Wiring arbeiten wollen, müssen Sie stets zuerst die Metallbrücken zwischen den Eingängen „High“ and „Low“ entfernen. Bi-Wiring steigert Auflösung und Dynamik. Wollen Sie den Klang noch weiter verbessern, können Sie auch getrennte Verstärker verwenden (Bi-Amping).

VORSICHT BEI SCHWACHEN VERSTÄRKERN
Normalerweise vertragen JBL Lautsprecher kurzfristig extreme Leistungsspitzen – aber nur, solange das Signal unverzerrt ist. Die maximale Leistung eines geeigneten Verstärkers darf durchaus über der Nennbelastbarkeit der Boxen liegen. Wird der Lautstärkeregler eines Verstärkers allerdings zu weit aufgedreht, so reagiert dieser mit „Clipping“ : Das Signal wird verzerrt und enthält dann zusätzliche hochfrequente Schwingungen, die den Hochtöner überlasten und zerstören können.
Je schwächer ein Verstärker oder Receiver ist, desto eher ist eine Übersteuerung und Clipping zu erwarten. Ein 25-Watt-Verstärker gefährdet eine 50-Watt-Box daher mehr als ein 100-Watt-Verstärker, wenn richtig laut gehört werden soll. Zusätzlich aufgedrehte Bassoder Höhenregler am Verstärker erhöhen das Risiko.
Unser Tip: Für hohe Lautstärken besser leistungsfähige Verstärker benutzen und niemals soweit aufdrehen, dass bei kräftigen Impulsen hörbare Verzerrungen auftreten.
LX2000 CENTER-LAUTSPRECHER
Die Lautsprecherbaureihe JBL LX enthält auch einen speziellen Lautsprecher für den Cen- ter-Kanal in Surround-Sound-Anlagen. Der LX 2000 Center besitzt eine magnetische Abschirmung und lässt sich daher problemlos in unmittelbarer Nähe einer Bildröhre betreiben. Er kann direkt auf oder neben ein Fernsehgerät gestellt werden. Die Vorderkante des LX 2000 Center sollte sich auf einer Linie mit der Vorderkante des Fernsehgeräts befinden. Der LX 2000 Center muss phasenrichtig an den Verstärker/Receiver angeschlossen werden. Verbinden Sie also Plus (+) mit Plus (+) und Minus (–) mit Minus (–), genau wie bei den linken und rechten Hauptlautsprechern.
ALLGEMEINE PFLEGE
Die Gehäuse der LX-Serie von JBL werden aus Spanplatten hoher Qualität gefertigt, die sich durch hervorragende akustische Eigenschaften auszeichnen. So reduzieren die hochverdichteten Gehäusewände (zum Teil mit zusätzlichen Stützböden verstärkt) unerwünschte Gehäuseschwingungen auf ein Minimum.
Die Boxen sind mit einer hochwertigen Dekorfolie beschichtet. Zum Säubern verwenden Sie am besten ein sauberes, weiches und gegebenenfalls feuchtes Tuch – aber keine chemischen Reiniger oder Polituren.
Die Stoffbespannungen können mit dem Staubsauger und einer weichen Saugbürste gesäubert werden. Flecken lassen sich, unter Beachtung der Gebrauchsanweisung, mit Sprühreiniger beseitigen. Bitte verwenden Sie keine Reiniger, die Scheueroder Lösungsmittel enthalten, um irgendwelche Lautsprecherteile damit zu säubern.
SERVICE
JBL-Lautsprecher sind grundsätzlich wartungsfrei und sehr langlebig. Falls Ihr Lautsprecher dennoch einmal instandgesetzt werden muss, wenden Sie sich bitte an Ihren JBL Fachhändler oder an den JBL-Service von Harman Deutschland, Hünderstraße 1, 74080 Heilbronn, Tel. (07131) 480-0.

Quel que soit le lieu, les enceintes sont les éléments essentiels lors de sonorisation de spectacles. Et qu’il s’agisse d’un opéra, d’un stade ou d’une salle de concert de rock, JBL est vraiment le choix de qualité en termes de haut-parleurs. Parce que JBL n’utilise que les meilleurs composants disponibles sur le marché, et accorde une attention extrême aux plus infimes détails, nous sommes convaincus que vos enceintes JBL ne pourront que vous assurer de nombreuses années de bon fonctionnement.
Les instructions données dans ce manuel vous aideront à en tirer le meilleur parti.
POSITIONNEMENT
Les enceintes de la Série JBL LX sont prévues pour donner le meilleur rendu sonore quand elles sont placées à bonne distance des murs ou des angles des pièces. Une distance d’environ 1 m serait idéale. Une installation dans les angles ou à proximité des murs augmentera le volume des basses, pas leur qualité. Si, toutefois un tel positionnement est inévitable, il est alors judicieux de diminuer en conséquence le gain des basses sur votre amplificateur.
Les enceintes de petite taille, de type « à poser sur étagère », ne doivent pas être posées sur le sol. Vous en tirerez le meilleur parti en les installant sur un support rigide, non clos, de 35 à 50 cm de haut, qui placera les tweeters approximativement à hauteur de vos oreilles. Il en résultera une très bonne image stéréo. De plus un tel positionnement sur un stand de qualité augmentera la précision des basses, et par conséquent une restitution du programme original plus dynamique.
Nous vous recommandons fortement de consulter votre revendeur JBL pour examiner chaque cas particulier et bénéficier des démonstrations nécessaires. Si vous souhaitez accrocher vos enceintes aux murs, il est conseillé de n’utiliser que des fixations très solides. Un éloignement de 2 à 4 cm permettra à l’évent reflex situé à l’arrière de fonctionner convenablement alors qu’une installation affleurant au mur empêcherait la reproduction des extrêmes graves. Pour une meilleure image stéréo, les deux enceintes du système stéréo doivent être placées à distance égale de votre position d’écoute, séparées par un angle de 40 à 60º (voir schéma). Par exemple, si votre position d’écoute se trouve à 2,4 - 3,6 m de chaque enceinte, celles-ci doivent être séparées d’environ 2 - 2,4 m.
Comme chaque pièce est différente et que son acoustique propre joue un rôle essentiel pour la restitution correcte de toutes les composantes du signal sonore, nous vous conseillons de faire de nombreux essais pour trouver le positionnement susceptible de vous donner entière satisfaction.
